"Whatever," said Justin. It was too late at night to deal with this right now. He cut down the coyote skeleton and threw it in the hole, kicking some dirt over it. He then rolled up the rope and stuck it in his backpack. "Here" he said, tossing the racist a granola bar. "Feel free to use the fire built by someone else. If I stick around much longer you might decide you don't like Asians hanging around with white girls and blitzkrieg me."
He looked at Midnight. "Do you mind if I carry you? We can move faster that way."

Philip located the patrol sent to investigate the explosion and missing soldiers. When he got near, he howled.
"What do you think, sir? Coyotes?" one of them said.
Philip growled.
"Probably." said the leader. "Infrared."
Everyone switched to infrared, and one unlucky private got a surprise when he turned it on. "Uh, who's standing in front of me?"
"What are you talking abou..." the leader turned just in time to see a figure grab the gun out of the private's hands and hit him in the face with the butt of the rifle, knocking him out cold. "Outcast!" he called, and all of the men looked around for the enemy. They were too close to use their guns, though, so they were unable to shoot him when he picked up their leader and threw him into a tree, knocking the wind out of him. He went over and stabbed the leader with a tranquilizer dart. They were then greeted by a bright light followed by darkness as their goggles overloaded and burned out from the light.
When one of them thought to take off his mask and shine a flashlight, he saw the monster from a scifi movie standing there. "What the..." he said, before he was blinded by another flash of light and then had someone put a rag covered in chloroform over his mouth and nose.
The other two weren't any luckier, due to the fact that they couldn't see him. A few seconds later they were also knocked out as their heads were hit together with enough force to effect them even in their helmets.
Philip striped the soldiers, throwing everything he wanted to keep in one pile and everything he didn't in another pile in the nearby clearing. He then threw some mostly-dry dead branches on the pile in the forest, poured on a bottle of vodka for good measure, and drew his "laser gun." The spotlight was focused with his powers, and quickly ignited the pile of gear.
He went back to where he had met the people, but saw that they were gone. With a pair of salvaged infrared goggles from the unlucky private he saw a series of heat footprints on the ground leading away, and followed them to a hole in the ground.
*"The city. It's not a good place for us. Not yet. We've lost too much in there."* he heard a man say. So, they didn't want to use the safe house. That's fine. He left two sets of armor, two knives, and all of the canteens and protein bars the patrol had on them in a pile in front of the entrance along with a note. "If you ever need it, the safe house is there, with food, drinks, even heat and electricity." the note said. He let go of the stuff and it reappeared. He then walked a bit away and watched to see what they'd make of it.
