I'd recommend Labyrinth of Touhou 2, in that case. It's the original, but with more refined mechanics and stuff.

Derp on my part, then; I had just seen it so blown out of proportion most of the time, so I just kind of assumed it was always taken a bit too far and everyone just kind of rolled with it. Wonder where you're dropping our favorite black-white anyhow...? (She's not even black-white in the newer games anymore what the heck)
