When Asa heard no reply from Nico, he took his eyes off the circling Grimm long enough to see Nico crumpled in a heap at the foot of the cliff. Asa snorted, so much for cats always landing on their feet. But then again Nico had fallen further than him and also without warning. Grumbling Asa headed over to where Nico lay, deactivated one clawed hand, and hauled him up. They had to get to the top of the cliff, and kill the Grimm in the process, but how? The cliff was far too steep to climb on his own, forget carrying Nico. Focusing his attention back on the Grimm Asa grinned wildly again, he had ridden the Grimm down the cliff, so why couldn’t he ride it up? For the first time Asa wished his weapon had a long range aspect to it, but he had to deal with what he had. Really, Asa knew little of the Grimm, he fought them, ripped them to pieces, and not much more. That was all he’d ever needed to know about them, he was let out to attack and when the Grimm were gone he was shackled again, but if there was one thing he had noticed it was that Grimm reacted to fear, it made them stronger, they congregated to where there was fear, and ……… nothing. Growling Asa wondered; if he felt fear, would it bring this Grimm down? Or just attract more? He shrugged, the more Grimm the better, in his opinion, he was rusty, hadn’t been in a proper fight for years, and what better way to get back into it than to fight? Summoning up all his fear, what fear he could find at any rate, Asa willed the Grimm to attack. Miraculously the Grimm did, diving straight at Asa, beak and claws out to gouge him. Stepping sideways at the last second Asa swept his claw into the Grimm’s path letting its momentum pull him along, and having pushed off the ground, he swung up and over till he was straddling it, right behind the lone spike jutting out or its back. Furious the Grimm ascended, trying to gain some room and shake him off. It rolled and dived but inevitably kept climbing. Soon they were higher than the cliff and looking down over the forest, cliff top, temple ruins, and other students. They were too high to safely jump. Luck had been in his favor so far but that was likely to change, and anyway Asa didn’t believe in luck. They needed to go lower, to pull the Grimm down. It was a task that would require two hands, and that would mean letting go of Nico, something Asa wouldn’t do. He had a length of rope hanging form his belt that he could use to secure Nico, but to do that he would have to let go of the Grimm, another thing Asa didn’t want to contemplate.
