Orun followed Garvus down immediately, and picked a new spear off of the wall. He also took a shield of Helmfirth steel, knowing he couldn't afford to let his left side take another gash like the one he had just bandaged up. He also prudently selected a Corinthian helm for his head before beckoning Garvus to accompany him out the gates. When they reached the sand, the Master's voice called down to them. "He has chosen Garvus to fight at his side! A good choice, he'll need the extra shield to keep the extra heads at bay! Ladies, gentlemen, gladiators.... I give you, a Hydra from the swamps to the West!" The gate that led to the creature holding cells opened, and as soon as it cracked a serpentine head poked through and started trying to force its way through the partially opened gate. As the opening widened, two more heads joined the first, and were followed by first one set of claws, and then another. The creature was four legged, with a body like a dragon, but three heads sprouted from it. It stood taller than an elephant by at least the shoulders, and each neck was like a the bough of a tree. Its claws kicked up sand as it immediately charged the pair of gladiators. Orun called a command to Garvus, but his voice was lost in the thunder of the hydra's charge, and the sound of its roar. He was forced to jump and roll to the right as the hydra charged by, two of its heads striking, one at each of the gladiators. The one striking at Orun followed him, and he deflected it with a bash from his shield.

Garvus stared intently as he braced his shield and watched the gate rise. A western Hydra emerged head by head then followed by the body. Garvus would not kill animals or humans but in his eyes this was a monster. Vicious and dangerous, Garvus had no qualms killing this beast. The hydra immediately striked out at the two gladiators. Orun performed adept manoeuvres whereas Garvus took the full brunt of the force. Garvus planted his shield into the sand and braced as the large head charged into Garvus, knocking him back and off his feet. Garvus quickly rose from his back and tried to find Orun. The moustached gladiator ran across the battlefield to Orun, awaiting the next strike from the hydra and when it did- Garvus was ready to block. "Orun!!!" He called out. "Stand behind me!" He advised, although to focused on protecting Orun than watching the Hydra. Did this matter to Garvus? Of course not. He would gladly throw himself in the way of danger to save his fellow man, that's just what he did.

Garvus was shouting back, but Orun couldn't hear and now the two were separated. Orun was glad of his own shield, it let him deflect the hydra's heads as they lunged. Twice he managed to counter attack with slashes at the creature's faces. When Orun looked to him, he saw that Garvus was trying to form a defensive position, and Orun started trying to move towards him. If they could reunite, they'd have a chance. Orun stepped left and as a hydra head moved to intercept him, he uppercut it with the rim of his shield and slashed its throat. It bled copious, dark blood onto the sand, splashing Orun, but allowing him an avenue of retreat to the relative safety of Garvus' shield. When he arrived at his partner's side, he saw the hydra retreating a step. On head turned inward and used its jaws to chomp down into the base of the injured neck, severing it. The two gladiators watched in horror as two new heads began to grow in place of the missing one. But as it grew, the hydra stayed in a defensive stance, the two healthy heads waving like snakes, warning against further attack. "Push forward!" Orun called, pointing to the space between the two heads. "We need to injure it too badly to recover!" He had already lost his spear, and he quickly switched his sword and shield so that he held a shield on his right side to oppose Garvus' left held shield. They would need the double sided protection. Orun planted his feet and prepared to move forward with Garvus as the creature recovered.
