Orun followed Garvus down immediately, and picked a new spear off of the wall. He also took a shield of Helmfirth steel, knowing he couldn't afford to let his left side take another gash like the one he had just bandaged up. He also prudently selected a Corinthian helm for his head before beckoning Garvus to accompany him out the gates. When they reached the sand, the Master's voice called down to them.
"He has chosen Garvus to fight at his side! A good choice, he'll need the extra shield to keep the extra heads at bay! Ladies, gentlemen, gladiators.... I give you, a Hydra from the swamps to the West!"
The gate that led to the creature holding cells opened, and as soon as it cracked a serpentine head poked through and started trying to force its way through the partially opened gate. As the opening widened, two more heads joined the first, and were followed by first one set of claws, and then another. The creature was four legged, with a body like a dragon, but three heads sprouted from it. It stood taller than an elephant by at least the shoulders, and each neck was like a the bough of a tree.
Its claws kicked up sand as it immediately charged the pair of gladiators. Orun called a command to Garvus, but his voice was lost in the thunder of the hydra's charge, and the sound of its roar. He was forced to jump and roll to the right as the hydra charged by, two of its heads striking, one at each of the gladiators. The one striking at Orun followed him, and he deflected it with a bash from his shield.
