DC Universe: Age of Heroes (The main OOC/IC thread is in the RP section now)

Hello fellow DC comics fans, I noticed that there is at least one Marvel universe RP on the forums but there is sadly a lack of RP's centered around my favorite comic book universe. As we all know (assuming that we means current DC fans) DC comics has recently "rebooted" the universe in 2011 with the New 52. Now it seems that they might once again change the DCU as we know it. The New 52 is both good and bad depending on the individual book series. However for this RP we will be completely rebooting the entire DCU starting from scratch. Each player will initially take on one hero form the DCU of their choosing. Sidekicks will come later on meaning at the beginning of the RP there will be no Robin/Supergirl/Kid Flash type characters. Characters like Nightwing will also be off limits in the beginning because he was Robin first of course. Also villains such as Lex Luthor and the Joker will be played by the player taking on their heroes. (The player playing Batman will have all Batman villains to use in their character's multiple arcs.) We will create engaging stories using our characters and each character's backstory is up to the player as long as it makes sense for the character. (Superman is from Krypton and Batman's parents are dead. However are Ma and Pa Kent still alive? Is Alfred an old man or Bruce's childhood friend? That's up to you!) If you want to be the Green Lantern, are you Hal Jordan or Jon Stewart? Basically play the character how you want to play them. We will start off pre-justice league. Your character's first arc will be the beginning of their crime fighting career, all characters will therefore start off very young (18-24) and will not yet be all powerful or have all of their gadgets. Meaning Superman just moved to Metropolis and is fighting bad guys in blue-jeans and a t-shirt. The police will see us as dangerous vigilantes causing more trouble than we are fixing. Feel free to do cross-overs and team ups with other players however the first world threatening event will not come until all characters have completed at least their introductory arc. When this event happens (I have plans of course) is when the Justice League will form for the first time and then afterwards we can really go off and establish our selves as super heroes and not city bound vigilantes. Also a player can take on multiple characters after 3 IC posts of their initial character. Sidekicks however will not come in until after our first Justice League event. Now I believe that's everything, I will put up the OOC/IC thread once I get at least three other people interested and I will further expand on the idea and setting of our world. Also I will be playing as Superman but any other character is up for grabs. If multiple players want to play the same character, I and the players not wanting to play said character will will take a vote on who should play them based on the character sheet of each interested player.

I do a mean Batman. :D No pun intended. My Bats is awesome... but I was thinking of branching out. But I just don't know where. I could do WW, because she's awesome, but did I want to give a more obscure hero love? Like the Sandman or other JSA Heros that don't seem to get noticed. EDIT: I think I know who I want to be. But I want to see if it's okay. 1) Can we have superheroes before this point in time? Or is now THE starting point for all supers? 2) How close to canon do we have to be?

This is the official starting point. Superhumans are just appearing for the first time. We are basically starting our own canon but back stories have to be believable for the character. As in someone like Oliver Queen has to be a billionaire who was stranded on an island but what island and what happened there is up to you. He's still Green Arrow but he's the player's version of Green Arrow.

I'm interested in being Green Lantern, maybe as the original Alan Scott. I don't know if it would be one of the Guardians' rings or a magic one. One thing I think is a little iffy is people writing their own villains. Maybe it would be more interesting if everyone played someone else's villains?

Hmm, interesting idea on the villains. We could certainly do something like that bu it would have to be agreed upon by the player playing the hero in case they want to have full control over their character. Villains could definitely be played as a collab type system though. Great idea Lovleand! On Green Lantern, while I like the Lantern's I've only recently started reading into them. Could you explain what you mean by magic ring as I thought the Guardians created all the green rings?

That's cute >< Sorry. The original ring by Alan Scott wasn't Alien in origin. It didn't come from Oa, but rather Magic. It was weak against wood and yellow things? I'm kind of sketchy on that point. And his power pretty much derived from "earth and green things". Even though he does (but doesn't later on) use a lantern.

When Green Lantern was first published, his ring was a magic item created from a meteor. Later it was retconned to be one of the normal rings. The New 52 Alan has a ring powered by The Green, the same thing that Swamp Thing and Poison Ivy use. I'll probably go with a normal Power Ring though. Edit: Oops, got ninja'd. Haha oh okay. Hal Jordan was my first Lantern so I guess you learn something new everyday. I think I prefer the Oa/Lantern Corps thing better but to each his own.

If you're interested in Alan Scott I suggest reading some of the JSA volumes. They're good.

I might do that some time. Right now however my comic book time is being spent on trying to sort through the mess that is the New 52. They sure could have done a better job making it accessible, it took me two hours to explain to my girlfriend why a black Superman starts off Action Comics vol 2! Not to mention the time travel and time jumps in that series.

Ha! Trying to start on the New 52 is a fool's errand. I'm surprised you managed to get anything explained. Everyone I know eye's glaze over past the first 15 minutes.

I think she just started nodding her head honestly. I don't know I just feel like if they really wanted to make a reboot they should have started everybody off in the beginning again. Like why the hell do we have stories when everything begins but the actual universe is set 5-6 years later with no explanation? And don't even get me started on the four Robins in 6 years! Anyway, one more person and I'll start on the main thread.

Howdie haw! As what some may call a veteran of these kinds of games, this is right up my alley. I will have to brainstorm some ideas for characters, although ideas are already flowing for Deadman, Shazam, Blue Beetle (Kord), Batman or (possibly) The Joker. But yeah; looking good. Can't wait to see this one start up. Edit: Heavily leaning on the Batman front as we talk but obviously the decider will be at the CS stage.
