Claire decided to go to her cog to do some more training, figuring that she'd just visit Blythe later. Her sister might appreciate some rest.

[Stern Algorithm]

Inside her cog, there was a strange crackling on the speakers. Then an oddly synthesized voice came out, "[I'm sorry about your sister.]"

Claire looked up when she heard a voice, being reminded that her cog was alive and sentient. "Don't be. What happened was an accident, we couldn't have prevented it." She told the cog.

[Stern Algorithm]

"I've learned to synthesize speech," the AI said, changing the subject. "Do you like it?"

Claire smiled. "Yes, it sounds very nice." She told the cog. It was good to have someone to talk with, even if she had to keep it a secret that the cog was a sentient being.

[Stern Algorithm]

"Thank you," The AI replied, "Are you going to run a combat simulation? I think I can help you."

Claire smiled, listening to the AI. "Sure, some help might be nice. Let's start the training program." She answered, curious what the cog would do to help her out.

[Stern Algorithm]

"OK, let's start with something simple," the AI said. The program booted up a simulation in space fighting against enemy strikecraft. There weren't that many since Asteria wasn't suited for combat. "Fight as you would normally, I'll maintain awareness of your surroundings and 'nudge' you if I have a suggestion for where to move, what to attack, etc."

Claire nodded, trying to get closer to the enemy cogs without getting hit.
