Name: Najjaśniejsza Imperiya Stjurvikaya– Most Serene Empire of Sturvia
Demonym: Sturvian, Stjurvik
Description:
“Stjurvik”, as its rulers have previously called it, is a sleeping giant, with age-old traditions and ways of doing things. Here, the feudal way of life had become so entrenched that the serfs were as tied to the land as cattle, and with almost as few rights. Recent years have liberated the common folk somewhat, with reforms being introduced slowly. It is a vast, deeply conservative and religious country: Mother State and the Church are the two pillars of national belief. The Tsar may be the father of his people, but by tradition and practice he is a stern parent. Ivan the Terrible was well named, and he has not been the only ruler with an iron will. Sturvia needs a strong hand controlling the nation.
Now, however, Sturvia is changing, awakening. It is beginning to look outwards again, towards the best that the rest of the world has to offer in terms of ideas, culture and might. These things must be introduced carefully, to avoid the ills of free-thinking that beset some other nations. When Sturvia does fully realise its old strength, however, it will be formidable indeed. It has boundless resources to draw upon, and the steadfast courage of its people to bolster its armies. It can be a formidable foe, and a difficult one for an enemy to attack. One thing that Sturvia does have is space, and defensible frontiers. Invaders have paid dearly to cross into the Rodina or Motherland.
Being a great power is not easy, as any Sturvian will proudly tell you. The burden of leadership falls on their shoulders, whilst they have to contend with malcontents, upstarts and separatists who seek to tear order asunder. Just prior to the great conflict of the 1940s, the Sturvian Empire experienced a dangerous period of collapse and civil unrest – though some might recall it being more of a civil war. Some colonies had to be surrendered, for the Sturvians realise all too well that for the body to survive, limbs might have to be removed.
Ragged and tattered, the flags of Stjurvik were raised pompously aloft after the Tsar’s forces prevailed over the extremist rabble that had sought to overthrow him and his family. With the Empire’s military prestige repaired, the grand nation then plunged head first in the war which had set the world aflame. It did not, however, resurface unblemished and old resistances have started to flare up, accusing the reactionary regime of warmongering and indifference towards its subjects. Indeed, the ‘voice of the people’ can be heard recurrently in the streets of the cities, and protests occur frequently. Due to the role the army played in suppressing the revolts of the 1930s, increased presence in the streets and failure to assert Sturvian dominance, military popularity has plummeted.
At the cusp of the second half of the twentieth century, the Rodina prepares to pave its path forward. As of yet the nature of its future is still unclear, but not uncertain. While the Tsar has his goals set, he tries to buy the population’s support by emancipating the previously oppressed peasants and serfs which have forever formed the backbone of Sturvia’s agriculture.
Government: Absolute Monarchy with recent constitutional reforms that allow for local representation (via regional parliaments) and the emancipation of serfs.
Head of State: Tsar Dimitor II Pyot Karenov (46)
National Anthem:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umEDct4BoGcEconomy: (Just describe the major industries and how they are organized.)
The Rodina is first and foremost an agricultural nation, with only recent –if successful- forays into the land of industrialisation. Vast fields dominate the countryside, crops reaching as far as the eyes can see, painting the land golden in late summer. Wheat and comparable crops form the mainstay of the produce, while cabbages and potatoes form a solid second with local specialisations pursuing the production of flax, beets, onions and fruit orchards. Where the land grows rougher great herds of cattle and flocks of sheep roam the grasslands.
While not dependent on food imports, the same cannot be said for other things. Nevertheless, investments have been made in the industrial infrastructure, which results in a growing economy and improvements concerning production processes and output. Foreign experts are a welcome sight in Dimitor’s Sturvia, on the proviso that they are placed under close supervision lest they spread dissent among the growing worker’s class.
Mining has been a tried and tested field of Sturvia’s market, with access to iron, copper, chromium and other useful metals and resources, as well as some rare materials boosting the economy. However, Sturvia’s main natural resource that could take the world by storm now it grows more and more dependent on it, is oil. Stjurvik’s oil and petroleum deposits are seemingly endless and easily exploitable, acting as a literal and figurative lubricant for the nation’s improving industries.
In order to ‘unshackle’ Sturvia’s countryside from its age-old isolation, Tsar Dimitor II has organised the Imperial Railroad Initiative. Other factories and business conglomerates are also owned by the government or ancient aristocracy, but there is an increasingly important bourgeoisie. The middle class has recovered from the turmoil caused by the massive war and the relinquishment of some of Sturvia’s colonies, and is now rearing its head on the domestic market.
National Religion:
Sturvians are monotheists, believing in God as creator of the world, which he has placed under the care of seven holy beings or angels, the chief of whom is Melek Taus, the Peacock Angel, who, as world-ruler, causes both good and bad to befall individuals, an ambivalence reflected in myths of his own temporary fall from God's favour, before his remorseful tears extinguished the fires of his hellish prison and he was reconciled with God. The faith is known as Tausism. The Tsar is considered the earthly representation of the divine by hardcore believers. Other angelic entities are made manifest in a bear, wolf, dragon, unicorn, eagle, stag and hedgehog.
Population:86,000,000Geography:
(PLEASE be sure to identify where on the map you are, preferably by posting a clip of the region you wish to occupy. We may have to move you around to make it work. Don't be shocked if you don't get all the area you requested.)
Demographics:
By far, ethnic Sturvians are the most numerous among the millions of the Tsar’s beloved people. Naturally, regional differences and dialects exist, but they all identify as Sturvian. Other than some fringe-communities along the Empire’s borders, immigrant numbers are negligible. However, there are several smaller ethnic groups who have been part of Stjurvik for several centuries, their lands conquered from the 15th Century onward. The last notable expansion in the late 18th Century saw the incorporation of the Hettacks, a warlike people living in the south of what is present day Sturvia.
The Hettacks are far from a unified people, and live in semi-military communities occupying sparsely habited regions. There are approximately one million Hettacks, divided across a number of regions. Their way of life is semi-nomadic, or semi-sedentary depending on how one looks at it, and excellently suited for the steppe and highlands they call home. By the late 18th century, Hettack hosts in the Sturvian Empire occupied effective buffer zones on its borders. The expansionist ambitions of the Empire relied on ensuring the loyalty of these warrior Hettacks, which caused tension given their traditional exercise of freedom, democratic self-rule, and independence. Indeed, widespread dissent is not solely occurring in the cities, but also in the marches where some ethnic Hettacks demand increased self-government, as they had weathered the brunt of the war effort in the 1940s.
Another noteworthy ethnic group are the Zechi, some ten thousand strong, who live in tribal communities in the mountainous wilderness. Some of them are put to work in the mines, while others mostly focus on hunting and forestry. Relations between Sturvians and Zechi are tenuous at best, but the mountainfolk are too few in number to be a true threat.
Sturvensk – capital city
The cultural and political centre of the country, nestled on either banks of the Okriv River and hugged by small industrial towns and rich farmland beyond. Operas, museums and prestigious institutes dot the marble cityscape, statues new and old line the avenues. The Sturvikaya Reserve, Military Academy, civic college and university and a variety of ministries sprawl out along Salvation Square, in the shadow of the Imperial Winter Palace. For it is prohibited that any building is higher than the palace. Sturvensk has a long and rich history, and is supposedly the birthplace of the Empire. The capital even sports a decently sized port, the river itself widened to allow better access to the ocean and Sturvensk’s sister city. All railroads lead to Sturvensk, and so most goods and traffic must pass through or along the Tsar’s city.
The Imperial Winter Palace has been considered a manmade wonder for a long time. Construction began at the end of the 17th Century, with new additions per royal generation. The wealth of a nation makes for a most impressive building indeed. Adjacent to it stands the renovated Kremen, built on the old fortress. The Kremen functions as the seat of government.
The “Old Fathers of State” convene in the National Assembly, a misleading term since most of its members consist of landed gentry, with recent appointed members being industrialists and nouveau riches. It is mostly a platform of discussion, since the true power of the Empire lies with the Privy Council. Within certain legislative restraints, the Assembly may suggest and ratify laws, though it is more often than not the metonymical Kremen which dictates said laws.
Duma – major port and gateway, second city of the Empire,
The city of Duma lies at the head of the Okriv river and functions as Stjurvik’s main centre of export and commerce. In addition to its strategic and economic position, Duma is also the home of the Admiralty and navy. The Admiralty coordinates both the naval forces and mercantile shipping. If Sturvensk is the mind and beating heart of the Empire, then Duma is its muscle. Especially the harbour and northern districts are strongly industrialised, with many petrochemical facilities and heavy factories.

Military NumbersActive Duty Component Total: 1,150,000 (1,000,000 NCOs and soldiers, 150,000 officers)
Army:
Divided into divisions but recently moving towards smaller battle-groups capable of operating independently. In general, Sturvian divisions are comprised of four regiments of around 3,000 men strong. Because of this, the use of brigades overlaps, though ad hoc brigades can be formed from two or more regiment size units.
Infantry equipment is homogenous, as specialisations are only now starting to happen. Most infantrymen are armed with bolt-action rifles or carbines (Mosin-Nagant, Kar, Lee-Enfield - 7.62×54mmR), while individual roles can be equipped with various apparel such as semi-automatic machine pistols (think MP44 or PPSH), anti-armour, semi-automatic carbines (SKS, or short range shotguns. Elite regiments or units, such as stormtroopers, are outfitted with state of the art assault rifles, for it is clear this is the way forward. All in all, the Sturvian army is a solid all-rounder, counting on its size and strength, with a recent development towards specialisation.
Self-propelled artillery is the supposed norm, but due to the sheer size of the Sturvian army, at least a third of all units still works with towable artillery pieces. Logistically, the Imperial Army is a powerhouse, with heavy investments made in apparel, motorised units and convoys to maintain supply lines. There were lessons to be learnt from the recent conflict, and Sturvia has taken them to heart.

"Ermeticamente legato, afflitta ma indomito!""Tightly bound, beset but unbowed!"Name: Kingdom of Atelieri/Remanist United Front (working titles)
Demonym: Atelierian/Reman
Description: (FILLER SUMMARY; BASIC PREMISE)
In the times of antiquity, the Remans as both a tribe and a civic nation-state were ruler and gatekeeper of most the known world. Conquering by strength of arms as much as ingenuity, the Remans- once a republic, then an empire- its decline was inversely catastrophic, leaving the Atelieri balkanized in their loyalties and long the subjects of other powers, or else to their own feudal and republican divisions. Gradually, succession by succession, union by union, state by state, the Atelieri as ethnicity, state and region refederated, growing to the status of secondary power. In the throes of economic ruin in the turn of the century, the call of futurism-modernism, heroic advancement and popular governance in totality saw the Remanist movement into power, determined to reform the Empire by means of economic force or military might. By one crises after another over claims to ethnic Reman pockets and the emergence of similar ideologies in the old world, forming a new bloc, the great war emerged in a disastrous clash between old and new forces.
Thus, the present state of the Atelieri people and state is the result of the seemingly irresistable end of popular parties and states; unchecked and uncontrollable outburst into national and international prominence, followed by grinding decline from both infighting and realpolitikal containment by the less radical surrounding governments. In the present, it is occupied by one or more major powers and potentially subject to balkanization, the native industry infrastructure in shambles, and wracked by an uncharacteristically dogged pro-fascist insurgency. The ability of the Remanist state to wage open war was thoroughly broken, but in contingency, a significant (even if relatively small) portion of the army, reserves and paramilitary dissolved into the population, determined to break the will of the occupiers and throw them out through mountain warfare and terror attacks on military and occupational-governmental targets, that they may determine their own path, without the dictations of foreign powers or markets- or so the rhetoric went- while the puppet kingdom is determined to acquire some form of future by an ordered status quo and detente with the occupiers, no matter the cost.
Government: Nominal democracy, de facto occupation government under martial law: formerly corporatist-totalist regime
Head of State: TBD: occupation leader or puppet king/Weimar regent ministry? Former government leader Consul Giovanni Starace (in hiding)
National Anthem:KINGDOM OF ATELIERINEW REPUBLIC OF REMANUNITED REMANIST FRONTEconomy: The present economy of the occupation zone and puppet-state is best described as nonextant. Both commercial and military factories are bombed out, the only ones left being those vital equipment, tank, aircraft and munitions manufactories sequestered underground in the many mountainsides of the country. Many of the major complexes have come under control of the occupation authorities, but the smaller manufactories & workshops remain elusive and continue to supply the insurgency. Food is scarce and rationed; although the nation has a very significant agricultural base, it has suffered under wartime attack and food is rationed strictly.
National Religion: (Catholic exportation? TBD)
Population:29,000,000Geography: Lined with and to some degree ridged by alpine mountains and hills; lowlands are rolling, green, and generally both warm and humid. Rich with potential for agricultural exploitation, by field, vineyard or orchard. Difficult to maneuver in offensively on grand scale outside the sparse flatlands thanks to criss-crossing rivers, mountains and hills, as well as the creation of defensive limites in antiquity as well as the more modern era, trading milecastles for bunker complexes, providing natural barriers and crossfire-enfilades against invaders in prime ambushing terrain.
(Prospectively in the central boot/sneaker of the east continent? Depends entirely on location of occupier states.)
Demographics
The Atelieri, as a region and ethnicity, have been largely homogenous for the past centuries, possessing a common heritage in the old Reman line, with some level of admixture with other (latin) ethnicities, as well as (German) and (Gaulic) tribals during the period of inheritor-kingdoms.

Name: The Kingdom of Holtland
Demonym: Holtish, Holtlanders
Description: A war-torn nation sitting on stockpiles of several vital strategic resources; even nations that have a quantity of these resources probably want to deny other nations access to the Holtish stockpile, which is, in a word, gigantic. Holtland a bit of a post-colonial backwater, but it does have a huge mining sector that makes it a piece of meat to be fought over. The government, despite stricter and harsher measures against the insurgency, is embattled to say the least.
History:
Holtish history is convoluted; the original land was inhabited by aboriginals who were content to hunt the land and live in a very primitive state. three centuries ago, what would eventually become Holtland was settled by Vatalonian (ethnic group) religious dissidents (extremists?), who subdued the land and subjugated her natives, colloquially known as the Taka, though that was more an ethno-linguistic group than a national identity; the Vatalans found the region to be fertile, though harsh and rugged; large tracts of extremely hot, rather arid savanna/grassland and thick, humid jungles, rapid-running rivers and harsh mountains, as well as relatively cool, very fertile river valleys and hill lands. At the time, the country was named New Vatalonia.
The colony thrived but was not interesting to anyone until a century and a half ago, when General Sir Sigmund Holt of Bachenburg, a conquered holding of the Sturvian Empire, invaded the land as part of a larger war playing out between imperial powers. When the dust settled, the country was renamed the Colony of Holtland, though much of it was in fact awarded to the Holt family as a fiefdom to control, and the Holt family very carefully used the ownership of vast parts of the colony to encourage emigration and entrepreneurship; many, mostly Bachenburgers, who felt stifled by the Sturvian way of doing things found land to own, fresh air and a different sort of life, not to mention a challenge, in Holtland. The Sturvian government found Holtland a convenient dumping ground for dissident groups, convicts and other troublesome elements. The conquered Vatalans colonists were not entirely happy with the dominance of Bachenburgers and other Sturvians in government or the government. The Sturvians decided to allow the country to go its own way as an independent country with their Unilateral Declaration of Independence, forty years ago, when the colony was strictly agricultural, before the natural resources were discovered (this, much to the chagrin of certain members of the Sturvian Foreign Ministry and certain ex-Governors General of Holtland.) The new nation declared themselves the Kingdom of Holtland, with their monarch, Martin I, or Martin Holt, as their first ruler, the grandfather of the Queen Caroline.
For the last ten years, Holtland has been at war with itself in various incarnations, first against the aboriginals who thought they saw a chance to fight back, armed by surplus <war name> weapons shipped in from <insert power opposing colonial power here>. Over the course of the last decade, during the rule of King Martin II, the father of the current Queen, repressive and violent tactics were used on San Cortez, a settlement with sympathies to Vatalan separatists; the excesses on the part of the troops created a broader support against the Crown and several prominent officers became Vatalan nationalists and guerrillas, with considerable foreign support. The Holtish military purged its officer corps and ranks of Vatalans, making it a Bachenburger/Sturvian-only affair, though this gave the guerrillas access to a number of trained men with experience and officers to lead them. The current guerrilla movement is well-organized and stubborn as a result.
Recently, King Martin II and Field Marshal Jonah Conrad were both assassinated, leaving the Kingdom itself in a flux, a girl on the throne, and the insurgency even more reputable and empowered.
Government: Constitutional Monarchy with Parliament
Head of State: Queen Caroline I (Holt), though she has limited powers (see Regime Personalities)
National Anthem:"Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond - Holtlanders tend to do the "BA BA BA!" bit too at their rugby matches, soused on beer and brandy in cola.Economy: Mostly Capitalist, some state-owned industry. Vital sectors primarily are petroleum wells, cadmium, zinc, mercury, uranium, platinum, nickel, gold and diamond mining; Holtland has a considerable mineral wealth that has yet to be entirely exploited and in certain minerals, their stockpile is one of the largest known in the world; particularly as applies to uranium. This is one of the reasons why several powers have taken interest in picking and backing various sides of the so-called Holtland Bush War. They do not have the technology for nuclear power, but this stockpile is the reason why foreign nations are so heavily interested in the outcome of the Bush War. Holtland's economy, at the moment, is in a bit of a plateau with slow growth, which is not helped by the unstable domestic political situation.
Population: ~36 million
Geography: One of the harshest climates known to man; scrub brush, mountains and jungle; some livable highland with a temperate climate, but mostly a harsh, hot sort of place. Dry or wet, it's hot. It's daaaaaamn hot. Nice if yo' with a woman but it sucks if yo' humpin' gear in the muhfuckin' jungle. They have a little coastline, but it's not enough to be worth developing a navy for. By contrast, they have lots of rivers, which is why their navy is primarily for brown-water operations. Even before the country went to shit with a civil war, most of the tourism in the country were professional hunters and extreme hobbyists that wanted to prove something. Those guys still come around, looking for the sort of trouble that only the vast and perilous wilds of Holtland can offer.

Regime Personalities:
Her Majesty, Caroline I (Holt), Queen of the Kingdom of Holtland
The 20 year old Queen of the Holtish kingdom has inherited one of the most monstrous internal security situations in the world at the moment, following the assassination of her father, the previous king, and her uncle, the previous minister of defense. Her attempts at reconciliation have failed in the face of a very strong Vatalonian nationalist movement that now has strong outside support. She is sincere in her wish to try a political settlement, but neither the generals or the Parliament do more than politely listen and then vote as they will. Nonetheless, she is a symbol for loyalists and guerrillas alike; the latter of whom have many a member who would like to assassinate her. She is not particularly influential beyond a symbolic level, and is often dismissed as a figurehead. Her primary value, in the eyes of her own government, is diplomatic and ceremonial. She was pulled from her studies at the University of Klassen Rock when her father was assassinated and she took the throne unexpectedly. While she is respected for her poise in emergency and her choice of Stidolph Ross as an emergency appointment to the Minister of Defense post, she is generally overruled by the Prime Minister in most things.
Field Marshal Sir Stidolph Ross, Knight of the Holtish Kingdom (KHK)
A hardened veteran of the last war fighting as allies of the Resians, Marshal Ross was brought back from retirement by an emergency edict from a very young queen, and is easily one of the most overworked men in Holtland. He is blunt, to the point and not interested in political games as much as the survival of his nation. He has little patience for diplomatic maneuvering, but tolerates it as a necessary evil in order to acquire foreign military aid in its various forms. He is a scholar and prolific author; his personal memoir and prize-winning international bestseller, "Scorching Breeze" was controversial enough to lead to his early retirement. He and General Gordy do not generally get along. The Marshal's return to active duty is widely credited for stabilizing the situation following the assassination of the King and he has the confidence of the military and he is a popular man with the troops, partially as a result of his infamous retreat from the Rotwald pocket, where he led the 2nd Holtland Rifle Division in a retreat and holding action at the Lyville Crossroads, repelling enemy armor for days and holding the vital crossroads for an eventual Resian counterattack.
Sir Bradford Gregory, KHK, Foreign Minister
Bradford Gregory is the international face of the Kingdom; as a result of the extreme nature of Holtland's problems, he is constantly traveling and soliciting aid. He heads one of the hardest-working foreign ministries in the world; he is an able diplomat, but often finds himself on the defensive when trying to explain his country's position to the foreign press, who often sympathize with the insurgency. He is far better, however, when it comes to haggling with foreign rulers and forging trade deals of various sorts. In private life he was a businessman, in his public service, he is better behind the scenes than in front of the cameras. He's known to have a bit of an alcohol problem, but it doesn't seem to hamper his job much; like many diplomats, he has a wooden leg.
General Paul Gordy
General Gordy is the director the Kingdom Security Agency, and as a result, wields considerable power; in his rise to power, he has seen an increasing degree of latitude to do his job and much broader and more sweeping powers to deal harshly with civilian suspects and confirmed "Terrs" alike in order to preserve the security of the Kingdom. Gordy's methods, including a highly militarized armed police force, secret police and extensive surveillance are generally considered highly controversial, and a rancorous political debate about the efficacy of these methods versus the consequences of these methods continues to permeate the Kingdom's public political discourse. Marshal Ross and General Gordy are at odds, generally because the KSA continues to encroach upon the military mission, demanding greater resources, and more access to the military's operations, in order to oversee it. As a result, there is a considerable rivalry between the military's methods and the KSA's methods, the latter of which tend to involve extraordinary interrogation methods and people disappearing in the night. General Gordy accepts that Marshal Ross is back in uniform, but was not happy to see him there. General Gordy is one of the least popular members of the government, but the politicians keep him in power because he knows where the bodies are buried.
Sir Rickard Dale, KHK, Prime Minister
Holtland is a constitutional monarchy, and Rickard Dale's party are the ones in power, largely on a law and order, kill the motherfuckers if they resist, torture is good enough for our troops, so it's good enough for suspected terrs platform. In a time of heightened fear and insecurity, the National Party is in charge, and they are suspicious of negotiations, of civil outreach and other platforms; they feel an attritional bodycount strategy is necessary for victory; prominent among their number is Rickard Dale, the Prime Minister and a former colonel in the Royal Holtland Air Force that served as a bomber squadron pilot and squadron leader during the <insert war name here>. The National Party is in a coalition with the Holtish Heritage Party, an even more militant party that justifies their positions via theories of racial supremacy and eugenics, though these people are an annoyance rather than a group that has to be placated, though their stock seems to be rising a bit as people get fed up with what they consider 'insufficient measures' by a 'weak' and 'undermined' government.
The Honorable Justin Yves, Royal Cross (RC), Opposition Leader
The Liberal Party of Holtland is in the minority, and yet as war weariness creeps in, they were gaining momentum, at least until the assassination of Martin II. For now, the Opposition only has the consolation of the little support the Queen can give them and has to wait for the National Party grip on power to ease. Unfortunately, with the National Party and the Holtish Heritage Party in power, and the former allies of the Labour Party and pro-Native rights Liberals mostly gone over to the other side, the Liberal Party is probably out of power for some time, though there is hope of perhaps wooing disaffected National Party members over to their side or convincing them to start another moderate party to form a coalition with. Yves has a considerable military record, and is a holder of the Royal Cross, the highest honor the Kingdom can bestow for actions taken in the <insert war history here, once war history is established.> While his party is threatened in elections, Yves himself has strong favorability ratings in public opinion despite the unpopularity of his negotiation table view of the war. He is shown the public courtesy of his opponents, a rare thing in the Holtish Parliament, where tempers flare and people swear. Of course, only a fool speaks ill of or calls names at a man with the highest honor a nation can bestow as well as the love of the public, but there are plenty of factions that would love dirt on Yves, as discrediting Yves would be a huge blow to an already weakened Liberal Party.
Guerrilla Personalities:
General Rodrigo Schwart
A former officer in the Royal Holtish Army, General Schwart defected after the Lyville Massacre and became the leading man of the insurgency against the Royal regime. As it turns out, he is a superb guerrilla; what the Holtish guerrillas lack in certain types of equipment, they make up for in good tactics, making them exceedingly difficult to dig out, particularly as they have strong popular support in Aboriginal and Vatalonian settlements, who have felt the lash of General Gordy's KSA and the bad policy toward civilians on the part of the previous King in the past. He is not a revolutionary, the way some of his people are, but a patriot. All the same, General Schwart is a shrewd diplomat and leader, and is able to weld together disparate elements of the anti-crown movement into a cohesive whole, though there is always the potential for betrayal, particularly as different factions have their international patrons. He is particularly creative when it comes to the use of unorthodox supply tactics and is the most wanted man in Holtland.
Dr. Jorge Baunder
The Insurgency's civilian government is held up by Dr. Jorge Baunder, who conducts diplomacy and other affairs in exile from Holtland. Unlike his counterpart, Bradford Gregory, the doctor (of philosophy) has a knack for the camera with his fatherly, patient appearance and his collegial manner. Nonetheless, Brandley is a committed socialist; behind the scenes, he is an able negotiator. While he is the head of the Holtland government in exile, he is nonetheless not in control of the insurgency the the degree that General Schwart is, and there exists an uncomfortable dynamic between the two that may someday become a power struggle. For now, their enemies and obstacles are similar and they work together. Baunder is a dedicated communist and an agent of <insert nation here>.
Montasu Nyeki
The aboriginal spokesman for the insurgency, Mr. Nyeki's people are divided in their loyalties between the Vatalonians and the Holtish, largely because both sides promise reforms in the treatment of what constitutes the majority of the country. Nonetheless, Mr. Nyeki threw in his lot before Martin II was assassinated and may be amenable to negotiations with the government of Queen Caroline, though he would likely assassinated if discovered. There are elements of the insurgency that feel that it may be high time to eliminate Mr. Nyeki, and consequences be damned.
Important Locations
Klassen Rock (Vatalan: Mesaflores)
Situated in the valley of the River Luangu, sheltered by mountains from the hot wind blowing in, and with a harbor, Klassen Rock is the first settlement in Holtland, though it is not its capital. It is easily the largest of the cities, and famous for its beaches, moreso than its ports. Klassen Rock is considered the most sophisticated city in the Kingdom, though it is only lukewarm in its support of the Queen; there are comparatively few Holtish who live here, but the city is nonetheless, by mutual consent, off limits to the KSA and the guerrillas, who both make sure to keep the image of Klassen Rock very tourist-friendly. The nation's yearly rugby championships are played here in one of the world's largest stadiums, largely because Klassen Rock has temperate weather most of the year, thanks to its geography. It is also notable for its huge flower gardens and diversity of greenery, as it sits in the mouth of a river valley.
Frostburg
Ironically, Frostburg is one of the hottest parts of the nation, but it is also the capital, designed to be as far away from the residence of the various Sturvian nobles put in charge of the Colony as possible when it was designed, so as to make travel for the Governor-General of the colony, from Klassen Rock to Frostburg, particularly arduous and irritating...it worked, and most of the business of the colony was handled by natives, which only increased their sense of independence. Today, it is the site of the Holt House, the Queen's residence in the city, as well as the parliament, which has a neoclassical facade akin to a Parthenon or similar where the legislators gather; the Prime Minister's offices are near the Holt House; while the residences may be close, the Prime Minister and Monarchy have not always been such, and now is one of those times. The Queen does not spend much time in the Holt House since her father's assassination, preferring her country seat of Castle Alex.
Marion Gardens National Prison
Not so much a garden as much as a fortress in the middle of nowhere, Marion Gardens is known as the place where people disappear to and never return from. The Holtish justice system has become rather tough on all criminals, but Marion is an old fashioned military fortress converted over into a modern prison; staffed by a standing army of KSA troops, it is one of the toughest nuts to crack in the world; the guerrillas would love to strike a blow against it, but so far have not been able to do so. It is a politically potent symbol of the regime's repression and houses many of the captured guerrilla leaders who have not been executed as yet. The rumors of torture are just that; rumors. No press have been allowed in, and no one there is getting released any time soon.
Institutions
Parliament
National Party majority government with Holtish Heritage Party support. Liberal Party is minority and the Labour Party is almost completely on the other side, so few MP's remain from that party. More to come.
The Military
The Holtish military is a conscripted formation – all Holtish citizens of <insert colonial power here> heritage are expected to serve two years and be kept on reserve status. Units are regionally based and largely infantry, so it is hard to shift units around on a regional basis, due to limited mechanized assets.
The Holtish military does not have much in the way of armor, and therefore make do with a variety of improvised armored vehicles. They use old piston-engined propeller aircraft as a form of close air support and interdiction/strike aircraft. Holtland's brown water navy, composed mostly of patrol boats and the like, are similarly designed for uniformity and ease of modification, as well as redundancy and survivability in the field. While ably led, the Holtish army is divided in partisan party loyalties, as well as there being a significant number of professional officers and NCO's with strong loyalties to the Holtish Heritage Party, who are in coalition with the larger National Party. The Holtish Heritage Party is extremist and racial-nationalist in its composition.
The Holtish Military is augmented by the KSA's "Snare" units, militarized police with their own equipment who often function as a gendarme; they are more mobile than the military and as a result see a lot of action – which is a problem in the scheme of things as the KSA and the Military are at odds with one another. Notable military units include the Princess Catherine Light Infantry Regiment (PCLIR), currently being converted over to a parachute infantry unit.
The Guerrillas
A unified group these days, though that wasn't always the case, they are ably led and more dangerous than ever; the long-simmering feuds of Holtland have finally boiled over into a credible and dangerous insurgency, though no one particular ideology animates the opposition. Rather, different ideological groups work together, for the moment, against a common enemy.
Vincell Mining
The largest natural resources company in Holtland, Vincell is publicly traded, but a significant share is owned by the Holt Family, who bankrolled Vincell in the early days of colonization and became particularly rich as Vincell discovered new veins of ore. Vincell is not a presence outside of Holtland, but holds a monopoly on uranium mining operations within the borders of the Kingdom.

Name: The Federalised Republic of Arteria
Demonym: Arterians
Description: The Federalised Republic of Arteria sees itself as a bastion of democracy and economic control that the world can rest upon. It has a long standing tradition of celebrating individual freedoms and the provision of extensive social system which is propped up by centuries of strong economic performance. The Federalised Republic of Arteria draws its origins from the Republic of Turingia, one of the few republics of the middle ages which was famous for its banking and control of the financial strings of many local neighbours. Through a keen control of economic flows, Turingia would become a source of finance for local nations then move to bankrupt them once they were loaded with debt. This system weakened their neighbours, restricted their ability to prevent the expansion of the republic and created a tradition of fiscal dependence on the upstart republic.
For much of its time, Turingia had to be nuggetty and tough; resisting invasions from much larger feudal powers through involving other nations through debt forgiveness, restructuring or even threatening them with financial obliteration. The nation eventually grew a manipulative reputation as nations began to avoid indebting themselves to the republic as much as they could which restricted their ability to manipulate the financial markets. It was after this development that the republic turned their investment into control of trade and significant military expansion in order to reduce their reliance on other nations for protection. They also contributed significantly to the cultural revolution of the Renaissance, favouring science and innovation over the rigidity and tradition of religion. Culture and art floruished as the nation became one of the cultural centres of the world.
This focus on domestic development and internal solidification meant they had little to do with the colonial expansion years, preferring instead to invest their budget in the homeland. While this limited their overseas influence somewhat, they began to exert more and more control over the smaller states around them as the other powerful nations shifted their views overseas. They weathered continental storms as best they could when militaristic superpowers and aggressive nation arose, backing coalitions where they arose and being unafraid of switching alliances to keep any one nation from gathering a large amount of power. During these years, Turingia united the states around them to form the Federalised Republic of Artesia, referencing the ancient name for the region they now occupied.
In the last two centuries or so, the republic stopped their direct expansion, preferring the use of relationship building and economic assistance in order to build their influence in the world. Former colonies, backwater countries and those that fell on hard times would often find themselves offered loans, economic co-operation projects and corporate expansion from Artesia.
Government: Representative Democracatic Federation.
Artesia had a democratically elected governemnt which relies on a multi-party system including two majority parties of the governing party/coalition, known as the Ministry, along with an opposition party or coalition. A number of other minor parties and independent candidates may exist within both the upper house, known as the Senate and the lower house, known as the Chamber. Seperation of Church and state has been present in the republic since the early days of the Renaissance. Government power has been seperated into two seperate branches of judicial and a combined legislative and executive power, through requiring members of the Ministry to be members of the Chamber.
Head of State: President Arthur J.P. Bullman
National Anthem:Ride of the Valkyries by Richard Wagner
It may or may not be played during a helicopter attack.
Economy:
The economy of Artesia is supported by three main columns of financial services, manufacturing and petroleum refining. The majority of economic activity is limited to their regionaly concentrated centres of industry where the rest generally provide a light degree of agricultural or raw material production that has a limited impact on the Artesian economy. The country is usually a net importer of raw materials, foodstuffs and fissile material with net exports of manufactured consumer goods, financial services, automotive products and military equipment (to government vetted buyers).
The financial services industry has primarily been estabilished through the hsitorical ties to financing nations along with a strong domestic savings pool. Furthermore a structurally regulated industry and a co-opterative foreign policy has generally led to Artesian banks being used as both a secure place to store funds and also a reliable source of both private and public debt.
The manufacturing industry is particularly focused around consumer goods, aeronautical goods, automotive goods and military equipment. A strong adoption of vetted military technology into civilian products is practised, allowing for the production of relatively advanced products. Some of the absolute cutting edge technology is classified in order to keep a national strategic advantage over the rest of the world. The manufacturing industry is particularly reliant on the sourcing of foreign materials along with the industralisation of the country.
Their petroleum industry is focused on the production and exportation of refined petroleum and other fuels with a primarily self-sufficient production of oil. Crude oil is generally not exported, preferring to instead refine and manufacture the more lucrative oil products.
National Religion: No state religion.
Population: 275,000,000
Geography:Demographics
The make-up of Artesia is a clash between urbanised cityscapes and rolling, rural grasslands which are dotted by the occasional farm or homestead. Their cities generally build up rather than across, making strong use of skyscrapers and other high rise buildings over that of an urban spread. The majority of their manufacturing and industry occurs on the outskirts of their major cities, generally closer to the port cities rather than inland, preferring the use of shipping rather than road-based transport for international sales. The government has recently started building a cutting edge freeway system to connect the majority of the country with a high speed network.
Notable Locations
Turin City - Political, Commericial and Social capital of Artesia, it is over twice the size of it's nearest size city in Artesia. A relatively modern city, having been periodically rebuilt by the government rather than maintain the archictecture of the past, it boasts one of the most impressive cityscapes in the world along with a highly efficient public transport network.
Antur - Cultural capital, this fourteenth century style city is filled with more ancient stonework then almost the rest of the Artesia, it is home to the majority of the great Artesian cultural works. A former capital city of the Turingian Republic, it is a city primarily attracting tourism and in a city in decline from it's historical peak.
Regime Personalities
President Dragan P. Lynnvale - a relatively young head of state at 45, he was elected on a political platform of social equality and cultural tolerance. He won a landslide victory against the encumbent President who'd been somewhat older and more traditional with his views and had been swept away by the charisma of the smiling young man.
Vice President Roger Vort - a man two decades senior to his president, Roger Vort was a former air force colonel and war hero who'd turned to politics after the end of the last Great War. While he originally sought the presidential campaign nomination, he deferred to his younger compatriot once he saw the popularity the young senator was accumulating.
Field Marshall Murik van Toor - the de facto head of the Artesian armed forces, he is only outranked by the ceremonial role of the president as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. A leading light of the Great War, he had continued his long and stalwart career with the armed forces, even though his retirement grows every closer.
Secretary of Diplomacy Yassin Berwick - the diplomatic head of the Artesian Republic, he controls the official arm of the Artesian Diplomatic Corps which quite notably excludes the the WC delegation which acts as a seperate department as the Diplomatic corps. The Diplomatic Corps contains all international ambassadors and diplomats, using an organised structure to provide legitimacy to any diplomatic action.
WC Delegate Henry Kesselstein - the country's most senior diplomat, he acts as one of the President's advisors and handles all interaction with the World Conclave.
Institutions
Three tiers of government exist through a Federal, Domain (state) and Municipal (local) with Domain structure heavily reflecting Federal and Municipal reflecting that of a traditional local council. Collection of funds through means such as taxation and royalties exists primarily at the federal level with a filtered distribtuion system to Domain and indirectly to Municipal, which has a limited funds raising capacity avilable (land rates mainly). Personal Income tax is progressive, providing stability for the middle and lower class, along with moderate corporate taxes, a Value Added Tax system and individual excises on selected products.
Fiscal policy of the encumbent party is somewhat conservative, preferring to act as a net creditor as opposed to a net debtor as a nation. A number of policies and programs are used to assist a cultural affinity for saving money, in order to build a domestic savings stock from which a financial industry can leverage. Trade policy tends to be liberal, preferring more lax trade laws and the use of trade agreements where they may be reached. Social policy generally tends to be progressive, with individual rights and freedoms constitutionally protected.
Reserve Bank of Artesia
Foreign Trade Embassy
Chamber of Commerce(s)
Artesian Economic Advisory Council
The Artesian armed forces are organised functionally, with three specific branches as per the Great War military doctrine of Land-Sea-Air along with a seperate less formal structure for intelligence and special operations branches kept distinct from any of the three branches. Recently military policy has seen an expansion of aerial power, counterbalanced by a shrinking in the size of the army. This is due to a policy of preferring aerial superiority over that of ground supremacy, along with a naval policy centralised around powerful aircraft carriers and projecting their air supremacy overseas.
The aerial forces are primarily new-age jets, with the most propeller driven planes having long since been decomissioned or sold ot other countries. Their aerial doctrine practices the use of fewer, more advanced over that of direct numerical advantage, along with a propensity for multi-purpose strike fighters beyond that of the aerial supremacy fighter.
Their limited ground forces is completely mechanised, through a mixture of light armour, APCs and traditional front line tanks, which is well equipped and maintained, despite being smaller in nature.

Name: Kerisia Republic (Celt Language) (Kerizia) (Russian)
(Such as England, the United States of America or France)
Demonym: Kerisian, Keriser
History (WIP):
Kerisia is old nation of people, protected by its geography; the island was exotic and foreign to others. It was land of beauty and eternity. Its people were proud race of warriors, priests, and philosophers. Life before the conquest for the people of Kerisia wasn’t so good. A failing empire which was shook by a civil war and a massive famine afterwards left it weak and ripe for other nation to exploit. In this case, Sturvia who slowly conquered the nation by pieces, fighting against the Kerisian who opposed them. Sturvia gained control over Keris on 1879 marking the beginning of Sturvian rule.
Parts of Kerisian territory was directly ruled by Sturvia while other parts were ruled by surviving local kingdoms who pledged suzerainty and fealty to the Empire in exchange to remain autonomous.
Kerisia was slowly conquered and colonized by prisoners and failed revolutionaries by 1879; it was under full control of the empire. Under the empire it was known as the Colony of Keris (WIP). As a colony it was a backwater with its main industry being agriculture. It was one of the poorest colonies in the Empire and was net importer of migrants which led to a massive Kerisian diaspora.
At the advent of the 19th century, the Kerisian Independence Movement was established by many of those that wanted independence included the descendants of the failed revolutionaries and prisoners, the natives of Keris, and transported several ethnic groups from different parts of the Sturvian Colonial Empire that hated their overlords. The opposing group against the K.I.M was descendants of loyalist colonists who came voluntarily including loyal native Kerisians and transported ethnic groups that were loyal to the empire.
Eventually as the empire fell, dissidence occurred on the continent requiring more of the empire to send troops to quell riots. Then on 1929, the revolution began and the Kerisian Independence Forces succeeded in defeating the empire and the loyalist on 1935 kicking out their overlord. Many loyalists Kerisians fled to the empire after the civil war.
It was victory for Kerisia though was bloody and destructive. More than half of the population died in the civil war and industrial infrastructure was destroyed in a nation that recently began to modernize. The nation was poor by the time of the Great War but made progress. High crime rates were common throughout the land. A way Keris made money during the Great War was through their own people, poor men who volunteered as mercenaries for a particular superpower. The money they gained in the Great War was sent back to the government to support the nation.
Ever since the Great War, Keris has seen greater prosperity as a nation though the country faces many challenges ahead. The high literacy rates created a generation of thinkers and questioners who are dissidents of the so called Democracy of the nation and created new political movements and parties in Parliament. More so, the industrial infrastructure of the nation lags behind making it difficult for the nation to exploit its rich resources and lastly, the impending threat of powers that wish to exploit their homeland.
Government: Parliamentary Constitutional Republic
Head of State: (WIP)
National Anthem: WIP
Economy: Keris is perfectly described as a Mixed Economy
Kerisia under Sturvia was a backwater agriculture economy. It was only in the early 1900s that Kerisia began modernization which was disrupted during the Civil War. Agriculture is still a dominate industry though President (?) encouragement of heavy industry led to the creation of several state run companies to mine resources such as iron. Though do to current technologies, it been hard to extract the resources out from the land and has been costly. Due to this the government has allowed some foreign companies to establish operation here though there are heavy protectionist policies concerning foreign companies.

Name: The Kingdom of Resia, or just simply Resia (Pronounced REE-sya)
Demonym: Resian
Description: An old guard reactionary power. Resia is mostly concerned with maintaining the status quo and stability along with keeping what power it currently has.
Government: Constitutional Monarchy.
Head of State: King Clement IV. King Clement wields vast de jure power which he essentially cannot exercise, but he has much de facto power which is largely unconnected to his constitutional role. Clement has shown himself over his 20 years regnant to be a master politician. He knows how to consensus build in the Parliament and his advice carries much weight in the Foreign Office.
National Anthem: See below hider.
Economy: Very laissez faire internally, there is a small degree of imperial preference that acts to incentivize intra Imperial trade. The economy heavily depends on exploitation of the colonies for energy, as petroleum is rare. There is a large mining sector, a recovering heavy industrial sector damaged by the war, and an extremely vibrant international financial sector. While many factories the world over may not be in Resia, many of their owners are in fact Resian capitalists.

The cry resounds like thunder's peal,
Like crashing waves and clang of steel:
The shore, the shore, our Resian shore!
Who will keep her free forever more?
(Refrain:)
Dear fatherland, thou canst be sure,
dear fatherland, thou canst be sure!
Stands brave and strong the watch; the Resian men!
Stands brave and strong the watch, good Resian men!
They stand, two hundred thousand strong,
Quick to avenge their country's wrong,
With filial love their bosoms swell
They patrol the sacred waters well.

From where past heroes hold the view.
He swears pugnaciously the oath,
You sea and I, stay Resian, both.

While still one fist can draw a knife,
A gun still fired with one hand,
No foe will stand on Resian sand.

"Desire the right."Name: The Free Republic of Mytritea
Demonym: Mytritea
Description: The Free Republic is a nation, or rather a dominion, in its infancy, born of a local insurgency that snowballed, with outside tampering, into a full-blown revolution that ousted the old colonial administration in favor of self-determination. Under the auspices of a newfound strength and a nascent nationalism, the ethnically and socioeconomically divided peoples of the large, vibrant former colony joined together in an effort to carve out a place for themselves on the world stage. This new state possesses its own share of problems, however, mostly born of the context of the revolution and the abrupt severance of its relationship with its so-called motherland. The primary financiers of the armed struggle against the colonial administration were wealthy white settlers and local businessmen, and they and their military apparatus took hold of the lion's share of political power, much to the chagrin of the indisputedly second-class local citizenry, a people who, while having been stripped of much of their own culture and freedom have benefitted from economic development and a powerful local education system.
There has been a continuous non-violent friction between the native majority and the colonist minority, but it has quite fortunately manifested itself in nonviolent dialogue and protest rather than outright counter-revolution or balkanization. And, while the Mytritean Army and Ranger Corps have maintained their place of privilege as the storng-arm of the white-dominated national government they have exercised considerable restraint in their dealings with all peoples, dissident or not, in an effort to improve their image, which is presently not favorable, and keep tensions as low as is feasible. They have not let go of their traditions, largely inspired by or directly attributable to the influence of the Princely States, of a white, aristocratic hereditary officership and a direct participation in executive and legislative politics.
The national government, in light of the distress of the native peoples, who did indeed sacrifice much in order to throw off the shackles of imperialism, has branded itself repeatedly as a 'transitional government' even despite much of what the natives believe to be racist and unfair policy happens to now be enshrined in the constitution of state. And, when such bias is addressed by the government it is done with immense ambiguity and very careful wording that seems to imply an intention to enact change when it's 'time for change' without really elucidating on any concrete timeline, though it's quite possible they don't have a concrete timeline when it comes to the sharing of power due to the fragile, young nature of the state. For now, instead, the president seems quite content to pursue economic development as both a means of empowering the nation and all of its people, and he has established the nation's educational system as the foundation of this.
Despite its recent armed dispute with its former master, the Free Republic has immediately and quite readily attempted to integrate itself into the international economy and diplomatic system. It remains largely within the Resian state's sphere of influence, though has secured a great degree of autonomy for itself by means of wartime opportunism. It has attempted to foster business and political partnerships with a number of nations both near and far, and for what it may lack in practicality in many of these proposals, of which it might not presently even have the means to carry out, it makes up for in earnestness and a drive to make friends of the ambivalent or hostile. To sum up the Free Republic's foreign policy, one would best be able to consider it as optimistic, and in some cases even naive, though it maintains a jealous protectiveness of its economic and political sovereignty, not wishing to fall into a trap of indebtedness or beholdeness to any outside power.
Government: The Free Republic of Mytitrea was constructed in such a way as to incorporate the best aspects of various states around the world as well as the fundamental principles of classical old world governance. It has foregone the presence of a monarch, even if some might still recognize, and even yearn nostalgically for the sovereigns of the Princely States, though this is all chalked up to unworkable sentiment that can be divorced entirely from modern governance. The government is nominally, and largely in practice a democratic republic that allows landholding men and women the right to vote for representation in the national senate and in the office of the presidency. Of note, however, is the presence of the vaguely 'old world' and aristocratic military in the government, who has the right to 'nullification' and a simple monopoly of force within the country's borders.
Head of State:President Martin VanhauerNational Anthem:Economy: Mytitrea operates on the principles of free enterprise, at least nominally, with chartered Resian industries being replaced largely by the capital and entrepreneuership of local businessmen. At present, in truth, there is little in the way of modern industry and there is precious little infrastructure to support such, with modern amenities largely being limited to major urban centers and regions with a settler majority. Mytritea now has the potential to leverage its extensive oil and rare earth deposits towards its own development however, and is also blessed with an impressive agricultural output that consists of both produce and cash crops such as tobacco, cotton, and saffron.

Name: The Confederation of Sovereign Cooperatives, or 'CSC'.
Demonym: 'Cesian', referring to the confederation itself, and derived from the acronymical pronunciation of the state's initialism. Each Sovereign Cooperative within the confederation has its own demonym as well: 'Mar' for Maraust, for example.
Description: The primary partner of the CSC, both in regards to population and economic output, is Maraust.
Maraust is a nation whose history is measured in millenia. It is home to countless ancient historical sites, and has seen the rise and fall of a hundred empires and a thousand distinct cultures and ethnicities. Numerous religions, too, have been worshipped in and then cast out of Mar society, their immense temples adding to the imposing walls and fortresses built by the kingdoms of old, forging the Mar a rich and diverse cultural heritage.
Historically seen more so as a continent of numerous nations rather than a single nation unto itself, Maraust has spent the vast majority of its storied history disunited, fractured into various city-states and regional kingdoms, and often subjected to various degrees of foreign domination. The Mar had little to no sense of self, identifying with whichever dynasty they lived under or whichever foreign empire they were subjected to, rather than seeing themselves as a coherent people. It was only the rise of a new leader, Magada, and a new ideology of ethnic cooperation and shared wealth that the Mar began to been seen as and identify as one.
Magada and his 'Unity and Cooperation' movement began as a simple collection of educated Mar, peacefully protesting the authority of the Mar kings, and denouncing the brutality of the foreign empires that sought to carve portions of Maraust for themselves. Magada and the other Cooperation intellectuals were mostly Tsharr, an ethnic group in Maraust focused around Tsharrsta, a Resian colony. As the ideas of the Unity movement began to take hold among the Tsharr, the industrialists in Tsharrsta increasingly saw Magada and Unity as a threat. Violent repression occurred, and in one infamous instance, immortalized as "The King's Retort", an attempt by Resian authorities on Magada's life led to the death of many of Unity's leadership. Crucially, however, Magada himself escaped unscathed, and a massive riot in Tsharrsta's capital following the attempt on Magada's life bought Unity and Cooperation international attention.
The King's Retort and the chaos of its aftermath saw support for Magada increase in the areas of Maraust outside Tsharrsta. The dynastic holdings of the ancient noble families and arbitrary borders set up by foreign empires made the Mar feel as though attempts were being made to tear Maraust apart. Peaceful demonstrations in support of Unity began, and were tolerated, outside Tsharrsta. The pacifism of these displays of opposition left many of Magada's strongest supporters from outside Tsharrsta unsatisfied, however. Men from the far away corners of Maraust migrated to Tsharrsta, eager to join the cause directly rather than simply announce their support from afar. The militancy of these new non-Tshharr arrivals, combined with the need to show more ethnic inclusiveness in Unity, compelled the creation of a militant wing for the Unity and Cooperation organization: the Union Militia.
Although inexperienced in war and poorly equipped, Unity had numbers on its side. Most Mar supported the movement's aims, and the extreme overpopulation of Maraust made it next to impossible for a popular rebellion to be quelled. As kings fell and Maraust became more and more violent and chaotic, the incentive for colonial powers to maintain their interests in Maraust withered. The Union Militia's guerilla activities made combating the movement difficult, and the people's discontent made maintaining the occupation of colonies in Maraust unprofitable. Finally, on August 15th, 1922, Magada declared victory for the Union Militia. In a grand ceremony in Ghazvon, Maraust's largest city and newly appointed capital, the former kingdoms and city-states that comprised Maraust for its entire history were merged together for the first time into one state: The Sovereign Cooperative of Mar.
Magada's Sovereign Cooperative was quick to make drastic changes to Mar society. The holdings of the deposed kings and fleeing colonialists became property of the state. Maraust, once a highly divided land, was split into administrative divisions which included highly diverse ethnic communities. The cultural divisions between the people began to lessen, the standard Mar language rapidly turning from the nation's lingua franca to the predominant mother tongue of the great majority of the population. Large scale collectivization and redistribution of wealth ensued, and the proceeds of Mar labour went towards state-run industrial and infrastructural mega-projects, which helped to tie together the previously geographically disparate regions of Maraust. The Union Militia was made Maraust's official military force, and all other localized colonial militias and police forces were abolished and outlawed, their membership and resources transferred to the Union Militia. All throughout Maraust's urban centres, massive factories began to rise, their assembly lines quickly manned with a mixture of former farmers, displaced by technological progress, and former vagabonds, pressed into employment by a government with no patience for the lazy.
Magada reigned as undisputed ruler of Maraust for nearly two decades. His reforms, though heavy-handed and questionably just, were a genuine improvement to the lives of most Mar, and saw him retain wide-reaching popularity as the people's saviour. Magada's emphasis on military strength combined Maraust's large population quickly resulted in the Union Militia becoming the world's largest army. A constant strive for modernity saw Maraust at the cutting edge of new technologies—but also saw her discard much of the principles of her ancient history. The pluralistic faiths of the Mar were all but outlawed, repressed by the Union government as instruments of division. Historic temples and fortresses, reminders of the tyranny of old, were demolished, cold steel monuments to modernity and statues of the heroes of the revolution built in their place. The linguistic minorities of Maraust, including Magada's own Tsharrsta, followed Magada and adopted the common Mar tongue: a former lingua franca that found itself replacing entirely the other, less important languages of Maraust, giving the nation much needed cultural unity. The most important aspect of Magada's leadership, however, and the aspect which threatened the world's great powers most, was his ideological proselytism. Magada actively supported communist movements abroad, sometimes even offering direct military assistance on the part of the Union Militia. These activities, though often limited by reality to rhetoric, nonetheless made Magada a reviled figure among the ruling class of foreign nations.

Economy: Magada's reforms during the twenties and thirties transformed Maraust from a predominantly agricultural backwater to the world's pre-eminent manufacturing centre. Major cities in Maraust and all throughout the CSC are highly industrialized and developed; massive factories support rapid economic growth, towering apartment complexes provide living space for the ever-growing population, and state of the art public transportation facilitates quick and dependable movement of people to and fro.
Besides its industrial excellence, the CSC also enjoys relatively bountiful natural resources. Common minerals such as iron and copper can be found in abundance, and even rare materials such as platinum and uranium are mined and processed in the CSC. Maraust is even home to a large oil deposit, which has spawned extraction and petro-chemical industries to help make the CSC more self-sufficient.
National Religion: None. Cesians are given theoretical freedom of conscience, and religious practice is permitted, but the state employs a wide range of measures designed to discourage religiosity.

Confederation Committee; The CSC's equivalent of a national parliament. Comprised of a mixture of elected representatives from different factions of the Unity and Cooperation party, high-ranking public officials and leaders of industry, the Confederation Committee holds responsibility for all matters determined to be of importance to the entire CSC. All legal and military policy is subject to Confederation Committee veto. The Confederation Committee is also the source of financing for all other regional and municipal level governments—every last bit of wealth that passes through the CSC passes through the Confederation Committee, and it is the committee members that determines the allotment of such funding to devolved governments. The President of the Confederation Committee, decided by secret ballot among the Committee members, serves as the CSC's head of state and head of government, as well as its primary figurehead for relations abroad.
