Name: Devon Devellah
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Race: Human
Appearance:
Height and Weight: 6 feet tall and 155 lbs
Weapons/Items: twin blade swords, a whip, and a ritual dagger (family heirloom)
Skills: lock picking, sweet talking, reading multiple languages
Abilities: is a quick swordsman, or a rogue
Magic: None to note
Personality: Cocky, self absorbed, charming, cunning
Bio: It is said the Devellah family are decendants of an ancient demon long since lost within the ruins of Crumbleport. He is looking to see is that rumor is real.
Name: Chak
Gender: Female
Age: Unknown, appears to be a young adult
Race: Halfling
Appearance: Instead of metal her armor plates are made of wood with bone and wood spikes.
Height and Weight: 3'0"
Weapons/Items: She carries several primitive weapons. A rough wooden boomerang, multiple flint knives, and a curved tusk with a grip that she wields like a mix of a sword (with the sharp point) or a club (the rest of the tusk). Her boomerang and knives aren't of exceptional quality, but as she knows how to make them she doesn't seem to mind treating them as totally disposable weapons.
Skills: Chack is an exceptional climber, and while her movements may lack any sense of flair she is capable of being incredibly agile. She also knows how to construct simple weapons and armor using scavenged materials, and frequently spends her downtime chipping out a new knife or carving down a boomerang. She also makes small scrimshaw carvings, often crude representations of animals, or else just strange marks that she seems to invent. She's a middling shot with her boomerang, but she's terrifying with her other weapons in melee combat. She fights like an animal, jumping onto her target before pulling out her short, sharp weapons or else twisting joints and even biting at exposed flesh.
Magic: She seems to treat some of her scrimshaw carvings as though they had some mystic significance, but nobody has ever seen them do anything.
Personality: Chak is naturally clever, but she grew up without any exposure to civilization beyond seeing strange dangerous people go through the ruins. Her behavior is almost animalistic in some regards, and not in the cute or endearing way. She prefers to communicate in grunts when she can, mostly in regards to yes / no questions and the like, since she still doesn't have a good grasp on the common language and finds it unpleasant to try to express herself with it.
Bio: Left at the Crumbleport orphanage at a very young age, the Halfling that would become Chak was a normal, curious child. Like any curious child, she wanted to explore. Nobody noticed until nightfall that she had wandered off, and by then she was lost to the ruins. She was quickly presumed dead.
The lucky young Halfling wasn't dead though, and instead managed to survive and even eventually thrive living in the wilderness. She learned to make tools and protection from natural materials, patterned after the objects used by the tall creatures coming and going from the city. She learned to hunt, and in time became a dangerous predator herself.
Name: Vagus Sionian
Gender: Male
Age: 41
Race: Minotaur
Appearance:
Picture the above, but with darker grey skin/fur, and with a giant mace instead of an axe.
Height and Weight: About eight feet, quite heavy.
Weapons/Items: He carries three things with him at all times; his giant Obsidian Mace, and two bottles. One for water, one for particularly strong liquors.
Skills: Thanks to his past careers and hobbies, he's generally quite knowledgeable and possesses higher-than-average analytical skills, something that comes in handy when looking at someone's fighting style, or if you're trying to solve a maths problem. None of this matters if he goes berserk, though.
Abilities: Vagus, befitting his appearance, is a creature of great strength, capable of lifting huge slabs of rubble and propelling people through the air with a well-placed whack of the Mace; and sometimes he doesn't even need a weapon. He also has the 'ability', if you can call it that, to throw caution to the wind and go absolutely berserk on an enemy, though this is usually involuntary; see below.
Magic: N/A
Personality: Most people take one look at him and think 'dumb brute', but such a generalisation couldn't be further from the truth. Not only is he 'not dumb', he's actually very intelligent and civilised. Though he likes to say he's humble about it, his rather humourless demeanor, personal sense of politeness of etiquette and disdain for anything 'ghastly' suggest otherwise; and he considers a lot of things 'ghastly'. That said, he's still rather friendly overall. Just remember to never A) wound him too much, or B) pull on his tail. You do either of those things, he's liable to, against his will, lapse into a state of bloodthirsty berserker rage, in which he will pummel the offender and any unfortunate souls who happen to be nearby until he calms down, or until the offender has been reduced to a mushy paste, whichever comes first.
Bio: Believe it or not, Vagus wasn't always a Minotaur. He used to be a perfectly ordinary, run-of-the-mill human, who lead a fairly boring and unremarkable life up until his mid-thirties. He was always an intellectual sort of fellow, and this landed him a job in the personal library of a local wizard. A very nice wizard, with a tall, dark tower who liked wearing blood-red robes and raising the dead from the grave.
Things soon took a turn for the strange for Vagus, however; he thought that, as evil as this wizard may seem, he'd never be stupid enough to mistreat his own employees. That was where he was wrong. One day he was hauled into the wizard's special research chambers for a 'promotion', which turned out to be a glass of wine laced with experimental alchemical substances. Before he could figure out what he'd been poisoned with, he was transformed from a scrawny, middle-aged librarian into a hulking Minotaur. The wizard was so pleased with his work that he cast a spell upon the newly-transformed Vagus to brainwash him into doing his bidding without question.
Of course, the wizard soon set out on a fairly standard evil overlord quest to take over the local kingdom with his army of monsters and zombies, Vagus among them as a special shock troop. Unfortunately for them, however, the forces of the local kingdom was ready for them. The brainwashed Vagus only survived the ensuing onslaught because an enemy wizard blasted him with potent magic and threw him off a bridge. The resulting head injury 'rebooted' Vagus' mind and effectively cut off the Wizard's control. After the battle was over, he was pardoned by the local King and set free, but they were unable to undo his transformation.
Vagus found this especially irritating since most clothes were now far too small for him, and he smelled strange, and he had difficulty sleeping in a normal bed with his enormous horns, and his brother peed himself in terror the next time he saw him, et cetera. Instead of wasting time trying to find a cure, however, he decided to make the most of his new form by becoming a merc; not that he was proud of it, it was mostly because of the big money involved. It was in this line of work that he found himself repeatedly visiting some ruins near the town of Crumbleport...
Height and Weight: 6'1" 155 Lb
Weapons/Items: The "Bottle." The device pictured on her back is named for the mundane bottles that would catch djinn in folklore and myth. It is capable of absorbing, storing and preserving magical phenomenon. It is primarily an academic tool, for capturing ancient magic and taking it back to the University for further study, but it can also be used to release the magic in question if it is needed, and can hold pre-prepared spells to use on the fly.
It has five "cells" which can each hold one phenomenon, or spell.
She also carries vials of mana potion, which can revitalize magical energies. She can drink them to give herself more power, but she can also use them to return power to ancient devices. She has eight of these.
Skills: A working knowledge of magic, both ancient and modern, magical history being her academic specialty.
Abilities: None
Magic: An accomplished practical sorceress. She is well practiced in certain modern disciplines taught at the magical department of Crumbleport University, though she has little to no field experience with combat magic. Her practical specialties are in the realms of Knowledge, Kinetic, and Electricity. These are the realms she can work magic in without referencing texts or getting outside assistance.
Personality: Curious and inquisitive. She has a thirst for knowledge, as well as a drive to obtain it and a certain disregard of her own safety in its pursuit. She is friendly and likes to chatter about academia, regardless of whether her conversational partner is versed in its intricacies.
Bio: Izzy is a student at the Crumbleport University. She is currently writing her dissertation to receive her AD(Arcane Doctorate), and her subject is the relationship between modern magic and ancient magic. As a part of her course of study, she has decided to venture into the older parts of the ruins to study ancient magic directly.
Crumbleport University
Not very well regarded throughout the rest of the world, the best(read: only) school in all of Crumbleport is situated around one of the few ruinous towers that is inside of the city proper. The tower contains Cumbleport U's extensive library, and, as the base has been reduced to rubble, is held up almost completely by magic at this point. Classes are held in a variety of buildings, both new and ancient. The University offers degrees in a variety of different subjects, but this overview will focus on the magical disciplines.
Magic is divided into two primary categories, which are further divided into subcategories.
There is the Physical, and the Abstract.
Physical Disciplines are divided into "elements," and deal with literal physical changes to the world. The elements are:
Fire
Water
Earth
Air
Electricity
Kinetic
Life(Life also has its counter, Death, but Crumbleport doesn't teach this).
Abstract:
Spirit
Soul(Spirit is directed toward self, Soul is directed toward others. It is forbidden).
Sight(includes clairvoyance, prophecy and the like)
Thought
Knowledge(Knowledge is magic used to divine information. It differs from Sight in that it gives you specific facts, rather than showing you scenes. It can also be used to target spells. For instance, a spell could use knowledge of names to strike lightning at every person named Steve in a particular area. In general, any magic under the Physical Disciplines that takes place over a long distance needs to be combines with Knowledge to specify the target).
Name: Ekra
Gender: Female
Age: 29
Race: Imp
Appearance: She's quite feathery, and her markings can glow, generally at will though also if stressed.
Height and Weight: 3'4" and 40 pounds
Weapons/Items: A sack containing 50 feet of rope, 25 iron nails, a sturdy rock, five emptied and cleaned shells, a flask of alcohol, candle wicks, five prepared small bombs, and a piece of quartz.
Skills: Ekra is capable of crafting small explosives using the materials on her person. However, these bombs cannot inflict much damage, though they are sufficient to stun and are easily thrown. She is also capable of crafting and concealing simple traps, tracking others even on stone due to her familiarity with the ruin grounds, and differentiating between plant types. Also, she seems immune to pain.
Abilities: Imps, as a race, are very quick creatures, able to turn on a dime. They possess no self-beneficial magical abilities but between their speed, deftness, and sleight of hand, they are capable of appearing to turn invisible. In addition to their speed, they naturally produce a venom in their saliva which disorients an enemy.
Magic: Imps can feed off of magic, thus tending to attract them to spellcasters; however, they are also easily bound to items. These items can grant them some magical properties but also can force an imp to curb their mischievous nature and serve the one who bound them.
Personality: Ekra, like most imps, is quite curious about the going-ons of others and chatty. She jokes quite a bit and doesn't seem to take much seriously. Also like most imps, she's fairly lonely and tries to compensate by reaching out to others. Between her inability to register pain and her lack of empathy in general, however, her efforts haven't amounted to much and she doesn't seem interested in changing them.
Bio: Ekra is an imp from the ruins outside of Crumbleport. She's wandered in and out of town to play with any unattended children and set up jokes, but her nature has resulted in many an angry worker and parent seeking her demise. She spends most of her time in the ruins, targeting would-be explorers and archaeologists.
