[OOC] Three heroes fight on!

In an unknown world three heroes have banded together to face both evil and goodness. On their travels they will experience everything that the world can throw at them. Will they survive? Only time will tell. The three heroes are as different as the dangers they are soon to face. One is a fighter, strong in the art of war. Another is a spellcaster, master of the mystical powers. The last is a rogue, who speaks the language of cloaks and daggers. Now, because I (because I’m an ass) assume that everyone on the internet is male, and I (because I’m an ass) want to make them as uncomfortable as possible I try to always talk about people as females. Old rules (from interest check). To play, you must: Accept that your character can and will fail, and use this as a tool to create a more interesting story. Be able to produce around two paragraphs of text per post. This means both “no one-liners” and “no wall of text”. Be able to push the story forward with every post. Be open minded to change in the game. It might shift focus at the drop of a hat.

Rules in the game

Posting order - To avoid getting one player doing 90% of the posts (or only 10%) we’ll use a posting order. The only time this will really matter is right at the start of the game because the player who goes first doesn’t have anything to react to. Once we’re rolling it should run smoothly. “The next guy decides”. This is meant to balance the gameplay and make sure that everyone has something to write. It’s all very simple, every time you interact with the world (Try to kill someone, open a door, jump into a hole, force a merchant to give to the enchanted sword…) you leave the result open ended (As in “I try to hit the guy with my sword” “I send a fireball toward the bandit” “I sneak up behind the guard and try to steal the keys”) The next guy then starts her post by deciding the outcome of the action and write how it plays out. “Keep it short and fast”. In this game we’re supposed to push the story forward with every post, that means that we can’t just stand around waiting for something to happen. At the same time, failure is an important part of the game that should be encouraged. Remember “If at first you don’t succeed, try something else”. If you missed with your attack, don’t just attack again, try to find another way. At the same time, as the resolver of actions, pay attention to the flow of the game. Don’t hold your friend back just because she didn’t figure out exactly what you wanted her to do.

Name: Title/Nickname: Age: Gender: Race: (if not human, please put in a new category where you describe the race). Profession: Equipment: (one “special” item each. Try not to carry too much. Lack of equipment and finding equipment can be good for the story). Background: Pros: (two or three things that you’re good at, or that will work in your favor). Cons: (two or three things that you’re bad at, or that will work against you). Other: (anything else worth mentioning).

It's not that I don't want you in the game, but there is another player who showed interest in the intcheck, I pretty much have to give that guy a chance before letting "new people" in. Stick around though, might be fun to read the stuff we come up with.

I get the idea, we could add a fourth guy, but I think that "the archer" is a bit too specific. As it is I think "The rogue" is too specific, but there are only so many ways you can describe your friendly neighborhood sneaky man. Suggestion? The feeling I was going for is basic RPG tropes... I'll have to do some googling to see if there might be another.

Please do stick around. I won't fool myself into thinking that this game will have no drops at all (There is allways one) and it would be great to have a backup to fill in a vacant spot if needed. That is, if we canät find a fourth role to play.

Aye, beat-everything-with-sword, beat-everything-with-fireballs, beat-everything-from-shadows-with-a-knife, and beat-everything-on-that-hill-way-over-there-with-the-arrow.

There's traditionally also a marksman-type role, so a huntsman or an archer aren't uncommon among the tropes either. I wouldn't mind taking the Warrior or the Mage since I'm looking to diversify my list of characters anyway.

I believe this list from tv-tropes illustrates my point fairly well: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FantasyCharacterClasses In it, the "Fighter" and the "Magician" both has 9 sub-tropes, so you can do a fair amount of customization without even leaving the basic trope-area. The "Rogue" is down to 7 sub-tropes, it's a bit less, but enough to work with. Now, here's the problem. The "Ranger" only has 6 sub-tropes, while it is only one less than the "Rogue" the sub-tropes of the "Ranger" overlap at least twice (sniper + magical both use special arrows, blades + dual-wielding both use bow/sword) leaving us roughly with 4 sub-tropes, about half of the other classes. The last tropeworthy class is the "Cleric" who overlaps with the other classes on 4 of its 6 sub-tropes. What I'm trying to get is distinct characters with separate fields of proficiency. The mage does the mystical stuff, the fighter kills things and the rogue sneaks around. The ranger can easily be included in the fighters role, which would leave us with the cleric who (in order to be something else than the dude with the healing hands) has to double up as something else.

Both really. I'll just go with the warrior since it'll be different from what I'm used to. Maybe I'll subclass ranged combat.

@WilsonTurner I've had a look at the character, and I think you've done a great job. Looks like you get what this game is about. When it comes to the background; yes, we're going to develop the world as we go along, but our characters should know something about each other, and what they've been through before (we can assume that we've been adventuring together for a while, lots of long night by the fire). You don't have to write a lot, just a few lines about your characters life before our game. Also, don't hesitate to namedrop stuff that might be important later in the game. *wink, wink*

I changed it I'm gonna go with the land my character hailing from being a land of darker-skinned people, and the land that we are currently in being the land of lighter-skinned peoples. So be PALE or close to it.
