Amethystia giggled at the sensation of Simon sniffing her hair. It was quite nice. "Alright... I think it's back this way."
She noticed he kept his arm around her, even though he was pretty much supporting his own weight now.
"So... Oh, right. I don't suppose I actually ever mentioned my name. I'm Amethystia. Most people call me Amy." She giggled nervously. She leaned her head against Simon's side as they walked, only to realize they had already arrived at the office.
The secretary leaned against the counter, a very pretty young woman, looking down at them boredly. "How may I help you?" she asked, in a monotone.
Amy cleared her throat nervously. "Right. Um.. My friend just fainted, and he said he didn't feel well. Can we go in and talk to the nurse?"
The secretary smiled. "Of course. Right this way." And showed them into the nurse's office, her heels clicking on the floor.
Amy resisted the urge to laugh. The "nurse", who was actually an MD-PhD, had been her adviser when she had gotten her PhD. And the woman recognized her.
"Amethystia, is that you?"
"Yes it is, Dr. Bekkejens. Society didn't know what to do with me, so they sent me to the Academy. I'd hoped to be a teacher, but seemingly the students wouldn't know what to do, being taught by a ten-year-old."
"Oh, my dear, it's so good to see you again!" Then she noticed Simon. "Who's your friend?"
"Oh, this is my friend Simon Tepes. He's on the same schedule as me, and we're so much younger than everyone else that we're kind of just keeping each other company. An older girl was picking on him and he fainted, and I tried to catch him, but as little as I am I couldn't hold him up and I think he still hit his head on the floor, so if you could check for a concussion. I would do it, except I have no authority in this school." Her MD-PhD meant that she was as qualified as any physician, but her age meant that no one took her seriously.
"Of course, dear. Could you get me the opthalmoscope and the otoscope, please?" The girl jumped to grab them.
After a few minutes of poking and prodding Simon, the doctor nodded.
"He's fine. You two are free to go back to PE. I'd offer to let you help me, Amethystia, only, I think I'd lose my job over it."
"Alright, thank you Dr. Bekkejens." She took Simon's hand and pulled him back out of the nurse's office, out into the hallway.
"So, what now?" She giggled, looking up into his eyes.
