Yesterday morning I literally woke myself up by screaming.

This morning I woke up and immediately felt immense relief that what I'd just witnessed wasn't "real."

Last weekend my boyfriend kept shaking me awake at night because I kept whimpering/crying in my sleep.

Halp.

Last night my dream was from the point of view of a young boy growing up (ages 8-14, I'd say). He had extreme violent and sociopathic tendencies, and I watched as he slowly learned how to do horrible things and frame someone else for them. They started small, like tipping a vase off a shelf and blaming it on the cat, stealing belongings and pinning the blame on his brother after planting the items, and finally up to multiple homicides.

The most vivid part of the dream was the killings. I dreamt that a young girl (maybe 8 or 9 years old) and her mother were visiting the boy's family. The girl had developed a crush on the boy, and instead of being either annoyed or flattered, the boy's thought process was "oh good, I can exploit this." It led to him planning the mother's murder, and framing the girl. He then murdered the girl, after consoling her immediately after her mother's death, and then made the girl's death look self-inflicted.

The rest of the dream followed the boy and his relationship with various family members. The parents grew nervous around him, and the boy's younger and older brothers were afraid of him, and the older brother kept looking for ways to prove the boy wasn't his biological brother, but some kind of demon or shadow child, like in Irish mythology where the Fae can replace an infant with a trickster child.

Overall kind of disturbing, but so cinematic/complex that I felt I needed to remember it and write it down.

TL;DR- dreams are fucked up, yo.

Keep a dream journal, maybe it'll be an inspiration for a novel or play that you could end up publishing and making some money off of.

Or you're being possesed by a demon child spirit and need a priest.

I've done the journal idea. I have a huge account of dreams and nightmares I've had over the past six years. And I've also thought of drawing maps and blueprints of my "dream world" because I'm pretty convinced that absolutely everything that happens in my dreams is connected.

My parents would probably suggest exorcism.

Congratulations, you've developed nocturnal Retro/Precognition. Use your gifts for good.

Either that or you've watched or seen something similar recently and your brain's went "Hey, Taaj! You know what would be great? If I terrorised you while you're sleeping with that!"

Did you read or watch something recently that might be the cause for these dreams?

Or you're being possesed by a demon child spirit and need a priest.

^ or that, might be that >>

That's the thing, I don't really find any major connections to things that I've seen/watched/done recently that connect with my dreams. Actually most of my dreams, nightmares, particularly, revolve around bad things happening to my loved ones/family members. So if anything they're just a product of my own stress and fears. But most of my dreams have absolutely no connection to anything I've ever done or seen. Most are very cinematic/realistic and could probably be a basis for a novel or screenplay.

Hmmm

Yup, you need an exorcist

XD anyway while it sounds cool that you could get a novel or screen play out of it, if it's distressing you and negatively effecting your life maybe you should do a bit more research on it? Maybe find a way to help you distress and sleep better

It's an on and off thing. Some weeks I have horrible nightmares, the next week it'll be blissful dreams, the next week... nothing at all.

I do sometimes use a sleep aid (or just chug nyquil) or do yoga/relaxation exercises before bed. Other times I don't really mind the dreams because I can snap out of it pretty quick and use whatever happened in my dreamspace as a "story" base. I think it helps that I'm a writer and I revolve around stories and ways to tell stories. I can view those things as a launchpad for a story.

Same here, I actually started writing because of this one dream I had.

I tend to dream about things I'm writing, replaying scenerios over and over with slight differences to see how each would work out. Problem solving, I guess it is. It's rare that I have anything truly frightening or original, that probably tells me something about my writing. -_-

For some ungodly reason I dreamed that I was living a solitary, hermit existence in a post-apocalyptic world that had been more or less entirely flooded by at least 15 feet of murky, swampy water. It was hot, there were insects everywhere and everything was rotting. I adopted two spiders, a giant orb weaver and a smaller, venomous spider. I don't remember why. I didn't have a cage for them so they just lived in my living space, which I think was in the top floor of a partially submerged house.

The venomous spider eventually bit me in my ear. It hurt and I died.

Dreams are, indeed, fucked up.

jesus christ taaj

The only nightmares I remember were from childhood and I'm like 99% certain they were all just memories of fucked up movies/cartoons I watched late at night

Unless you count those dreams where I get into a life or death fight and my punches just deflect off my opponent's face like they have a diamond shield coating their body, and when I get desperate and start stomping on their head they just kinda giggle while I get really fucking frustrated

It's like I'm an anime character but it's only the second episode and I haven't realized my power yet

I get nightmares very rarely nowadays. And on those nights I'll wake up three different times and have three different nightmares.

The last time this happened I also had a bit of sleep paralysis. You know, where you're kinda awake but you can't really move or scream while it feels like something is pinning you to your bed?

Anyway, last night I dreamt that my dad ate all the cookies I made before going to sleep. I got really upset. He doesn't live with us, though. But I better go check on those cookies just in case.
