Decided to reminisce over the ruins of old guild like a demented spectre, amazingly perhaps my favourite fight survived, all three pages of my battle with Sikako in the NoW tournament. I wish I could go back over more of my old fights, if only to remind myself how I played certain characters a few years back.

It's hard to navigate the oldguild, recovering threads is a nightmare.

I'm trying to find where I posted some of my old character sheets so I can rework them more easily. Though also cringe at how much I've improved over two years.

Edit: Also, the Oldguild's layout is much nicer than the current. Like straight up.

My first board was fflounge(original) way back about 2002-03. Then I ran one called ewaw for a while, and before my long retirement we had Ultimateshinra around 2007, those were a blast. Clan wars...arena fights.. whole boards vs. other boards... Was a great time back in those days.

Based on my intense research (google front page) I have determined that pounds of force in a punch could be similar to deadlift pounds. So for example of the "normal human" tier of my tier list I have:

--- Below 300 (Average)
--- 301 to 600 (Trained)
--- 600 to 900 (Peak)

This all counts as tier 1 with lower, mid, and upper tier separate for further distinction. So for example, a normal person off the street could punch with 300 pounds of force or lift 300 pounds in a dead lift. Does this seem like a valid conclusion? The main problem is that for peak human punches it seems like they could do over 1,000 rather than 900, but I like how the numbers line up this way and can easily adjusted to higher tiers.

Or perhaps I can go by 400s and not 300s to make the peak tier 1 higher level. Lifting 400 pounds is a little harder for the average joe, unfortunately, if I'm thinking correctly.

I just wouldn't try to tie them together that much since a good punch is really using different parts of the body from a lifting force. I also know they aren't really tied together from my karate instructor's instructor who was unlikely able to lift much more than 200lbs but could consistently measure a punch from 1500-2000 ppsi.

EDIT: Do note this is assuming he was able to get a good stance on his target.

For psi of someone who could punch 600 pounds of force, I just divide by the size of their fist to get the pounds per inch?

For my strength chart I'd take their best strength quality. For example, if they can deadlift 500 pounds but punch like a wimp they'd still be mid tier 1.

I'm not certain on the formula. It was measured by a machine. They had a bunch of boxers do theirs and they were hitting for 300-700 ppsi and then comes up this little older man who hits a 2000 ppsi. He admitted he obviously got to create himself a perfect stance for that punch, but he was able to consistently get over double most of the others participating.

And yeah, as long as you aren't expecting everyone to fit into the categories it is probably fine. I just never do any categorization really since there are always exceptions and I just usually find it easier to make the best judgment call I can at the time.

I want to keep consistent but the easiest way could be to give some leeway and have them ranked in stats from S being the best to E being the worst. That way I can at least tell a general idea of which of my characters is good in what ways.

I think I'll be ready for some matches tomorrow once I post some characters.

@Innue Except Boxer punches generally carry 1200 - 1500 psi, with Mike Tyson carrying 1800 in his pockets.

Continuing my previous thought though.

After seeing the error of my ways, we need to cut the number bullshit out. Like. For real.

Trying to quantify this shit in numbers literally makes this as boring as trying to balance a MoBA when you're the programmers.

We need to universally stop trying to use the number system, and work our way back to an honor system.

Where we can stop saying: "My number is bigger than yours, so you have to stop it. Because I'm beating you up at a higher number than you're beating me up."

And start saying: "Good game, you outsmarted me and were a good opponent."

Like, damn. I can't believe I didn't realize this sooner, and I feel like an idiot for it.

I don't think we necessarily need to stop using the number system. Numbers are a really good way to quantify data, and quantifying data is what we need to actually have our character be dissimilar, thus, more variable.

Except no? The difference in a character is the difference laid out by the writer. Give your character something that makes them different and even two characters with the same power can play totally different.

A quantifiable value of numbers leads to two people who can wield fire on a similar scale, except one will ALWAYS WIN because they can shoot theirs a foot farther and ten degrees hotter.

I wont contend your point. The same concept can be handled differently depending on the person using it, and i'd like to think i can use numerical data in my character sheets without shoving it in my opponent's face at every given opportunity.
