Even the most hardcore black and death metal fan has their guilty pleasures. Take my music taste for example. You clearly see I have a big love for Post-Hardcore and heavy metal bands, but I don't deny that I have a soft spot for certain 90s boy bands that may or may not use the back street that's often meant for boys.

@Altered Tundra Guilty pleasures?! What guilty pleasures?! I don't have any guilty pleasures! Don't be silly! >>; *hides the Adele and Lana Del Rey CDs behind their back*

Course that was when I was in school and was an elitist douchebag. Nowadays if something sounds good to me, I'll listen to it.

:O You like Adele? AND ANAL DEL REY? This coming from the guy who posts the most metal shuffle songs I've seen in this thread!!! :O

But seriously, Lana is cool. And I don't mind Adele - just can't listen to the radio thanks to her 21 album. x_x

And yeah, I was really close-minded with music in my hs days. Strictly Emo punk only I was. Nowadays, I'm like you: if I like the way it sounds, I'll listen to it. I don't give a fuck if it's pop, rock, metal, rap, or - dare I say - *dramatic pause*...country. >.>;

@Altered Tundra Not sure if that was intentional misspelling but yeah. Guilty! Dx Lana and Adele are so much different from the typical pop bullshit I hear these days. They actually have talent! I mean seriously listen to Lana's cover of Blue Velvet!

And the only country I like per-say is old school country like Johnny Cash and Hank Williams. I swear to God, Satan, Zeus, and Cthulu if I have to hear Florida Georgia SHITE again, I'm going to commit a murder suicide in the middle of a busy shopping mall! >///< I despise new music in general because it's lost its soul. It's lost that feeling an artist can give to their work because well...it ain't even their work! Half the songs are just crap lyrics tossed onto a piece of paper by the record executive hired monkey, recycled with some stupid beat some dillhole probably whipped up in Garage Band overnight, and then given to some ditz of a cunt who can barely sing without that cardinal sin upon artistic endeavors AUTOTUNE!!!!

Honestly that's why I gravitate more towards metal, that and I've been a metalhead since junior high so yeah, but I'm also big on indie music too. That was thanks to Life is Strange of course. XD

Yeah it was intentional. Lana spelled backwards is anal. Speaking of Lana, I haven't really checked out her recent stuff. I remember loving her first album to death. It was one of the most hauntingly beautiful albums I listened to at the time. Her voice is so intoxicating.

You and I share similar views about that. Record companies do tend to take control of most - if not all - artists and their creative freedom. I remember reading that it took Dream Theater a long while before they had full creative freedom. I do believe the album before their last one was them going full creative freedom and their record label is a moderately independent one, so I could only imagine how soul-sucking the mainstream ones are. As for the music itself, yeah I can agree that it has lost its soul to some extent. It's definitely not how it was in the past(I'm thinking 70s and 80s and some of the 90s). We can only hope that they will change their ways, but knowing how the music business is, that's going to be unlikely. :/

Metal, while some of the songs tend to be too satanic and graphic for my tastes(I'm talking bout Black Metal), they do have some of the best musicianship and lyrics I've seen in songs. Bands like ICed Earth, Dream Theater, Machine Head(just to name a few) have some impressive lyrics. Still to this day, my favorite Heavy Metal album is Machine Head's 2011 record, Unto the Locust. Track-to-track(including the covers), it's a fucking masterpiece. Never have I ever heard such a well-rounded album.

@Rusalka I'm not a metalhead but I completely agree with your view in regards to a lot of recent pop music; mindless, meaningless pile of crap usually from talentless artists who got where they were by having the right 'look' or artists who'd have talent if they used it properly

@SouffleGirl123

I'll admit there used to be talent involved in pop. I think that's why I listen to alot more 80s pop than I do today's (yes, another guilty pleasure of mine) Artists like Adele and Lana Del Rey are about as close as I get to pop today, just because they have so much talent and charsima. Adele's got that soulful voice that just pulls you in and Lana... I can't get enough of her. Her whole early 60s vibe she's got going on plus that dark and haunting edge she's got to such a beautiful singing voice... *slapped* But yeah, the industry today is just so...so fucking shallow! Dx It really reminded me alot of the 80s metal scene in LA, but even then bands still had to have talent. The record companies are focused more on image. They want supermodels who can barely carry a flat tune because they look good, not because they can sing good or play guitar or whatever! No, as long as they look sexy (and let me tell you even for a guy I do not find anything attractive about Nikki Minaj or Katy Perry) they can keep cranking out the same mass produced bullshit over and over! Dx

I think that's why I'm such a diehard metalhead, because even if some bands are on huge record labels and whatnot, they still don't lose their soul and their drive to make kick ass, true to the bone music the way they want to.

And with that....

Down Again - Chimaira
Destroyer - Static X
Sinner - Drowning Pool
Ænema - Tool
Wolf Moon - Type O Negative
Refuse Resist - Sepultura
Did my Time - Korn
You Wouldn't Know - Hellyeah
Summer of Darkness - Demon Hunter
Drown You Out - Crossfade
