Invasion Squad!

Alright, let's get one thing straight, firstly this is something that will most probably not happen. I'm just putting this here to see if it has any merit, but I do really want to do this anyway.

So basically, what my idea was is basically a weird type of weird thing called the Invasion Squad, but they don't really invade all that much. Basically it's a group of characters who invade other RPs somehow and do basically something or other before going back to a central squad HQ.

I really have no idea how it'd work, and obviously you'd need a GM's consent to invade and that's all the thought I've really given to this idea. Someone please tell me if this is a good idea or not.

Interesting idea but would be better as a dedicated crossover section where you have perhaps 2 RPs that Maybe collab together for a bit.

That's the positive, the negative and it's a big, big negative, is that it could perhaps come across as a bunch of trolls that are just there to cause problems (member problems, not RP problems) between people.

I would advise against it as I would hate to have randoms invade my story development when they aren't really part of it naturally.

yes. While it might be fun for the ones doing it, this would piss off a lot of people who get their RPs "invaded". Not to mention, they would contact the mods, who would then be asked to hide posts.

Alright, I realize how stupid that idea is but I just really wanted to write it down somewhere. Although, building on this idea, what would you guys say to instead 'invading' a dead RP, as in, finding a dead RP and taking over the bodies of the current characters as different characters and acting out what you would realistically do if you suddenly woke up as some guy in an RP where time has stopped?

I don't really know how fun that would be, but the point is, does this idea have merit?

Again, same problem. An RP that may be quiet may not necessarily be dead depending on what the situation is with the GM(s) and the members. There could be a reason why it's quiet for a designated part of time (holiday, Uni, maybe it's a relaxed RP with no designated timeframe) and taking over could come across as an unwanted hijack.

Not to mention you would also be breaking many roleplaying rules in general. God-modding, auto, metagame, possible lorebreak, power-play, mary-sues, the list could go on.

When in doubt just talk to the GM about their RP and if they are willing to allow you to continue it, than it's all good, but until that time it may be safer to not invade.

Note: Mahz, from memory, may also be introducing a whitelisting feature to prevent people jumping into an RP without approval, so that'd kill this idea in the future anyways.

Oh yeah, I have a new idea again which is very slightly based on these other two that I want to write down before I forget. And when I say slightly, I do mean very slightly

How about an RP forum RP? It's basically like your characters from other RPs can access a dimension crossing forum, and they basically just talk about problems from their own RP with characters from other RPs. This idea I kind of do feel like doing except there's not much point to it and I don't think many people would be very interested.

I think there was a manga about something like this except it was adventurers and not RPers, but I forgot the name of that so I wouldn't be able to reference anything.

@RoflsMazoy oh no, I got that the first time, I just couldn't figure out how to express that idea without being terribly redundant. It seems like a fun idea. In fact, why not make an off-topic discussion thread about it?
Or maybe it could fit into free RP. Hmm.... (Can you hear the gears clanking around in my head yet?)

But in all honesty, it would be more fun to have to figure out someone's character if you don't know them first

Well, we could do it like a jump-in RP. With that handy-dandy little "jump-in" status tag.
We could also make a forum game out of it. User A links to an RP, then writes a dialogue sentence or paragraph. User B decides which of that RPs characters fits that dialogue, then links an RP himself and writes a dialogue.
UGH curse these harebrained schemes that fill my head.

Sounds pretty good to me, but the main problem is attracting an audience

Even with a jump in tag not many people would be initially interested in the sales pitch, this kind of thing would only really appeal to what I think would be a niche audience. This would probably mostly appeal to people who are veterans or have some amount of experience in RolePlaying or people who want to bitch about something while they're in character. It could also appeal to cynical people, maybe the people in the Spam forum if you've ever been there.

So if we do this, we need to give some consideration about how to capture an audience and not have it become a waste of effort.

Hmm. I am not honestly sure how we could, because if we put it in Free RP we'd have too many people not taking us seriously. If we put it in Spam it would be derailed within moments (I have poked my head in there before and nearly gotten it bitten off for doing so!) I don't think we could put it in Casual, since most people would be posting one or two sentences, max.
So... That leaves Roleplaying Discussion and Off-Topic. I'd think we could put it in the RP discussion category, personally. But... How to still attract people. Hmm.
Well, links in our signatures? Haha. But really.
I don't know. My creative muse has gone kaput over the last three hours.
