@Travesty It helps. Asking for things your character can do is all well and good, but it's how those abilities fit in with the character itself that I'm interested in.

I wanted to give my character an overall goal and some sort of edge in combat without giving him a devil fruit, and while this also gives him power, it puts him in danger of completely loosing himself lest he removes this “double edged sword”.

Strider Kinova

Appearance: Strider now has a purple insect that completely covers his back that has dragonfly-like wings and a large scorpion tail. A purple chitin armor has spread around the parasite to his shoulders (That now resemble pauldrons), and around the edges of his chest and waist.

Nicknames/Aliases: Close friends call him by his given name “Kinova” and “Strider” is used by everyone else.

Hometown: North Blue, Psycho-Kore Island

Marine Rank: Lieutenant

Role: Intelligence Officer

Abilities & Skills: Kinova knows basic subterfuge techniques, and is quite sneaky. He is also proficient in the use of firearms. With the growing neural connection he has with the parasite on his back, Kinova is able to use its wings for flight, and can also use the insect’s scorpion tail to attack, although doing so causes great strain on Strider’s mind.

Equipment: Kinova always keeps his two revolvers at his waist, and they are his main method of combat. He wears a utility belt containing ammo, smoke bombs, caltrops, and tripwire.

Devil Fruit: N/A

Personality: Kinova is cocky, but reserved. He’s always judging others and while he doesn’t consider himself an elitist snob, he does end up putting himself above others that he doesn’t understand. To him, the law is a sacred institution that should be followed and enforced, lest the world become another Meltdown City. He enjoys being around others and has a cheesy sense of humor, although ever since he gained the +1 on his back, Strider can’t help but be self-conscious.

Biography: Strider Kinova grew up in the ghettos of Meltdown City on Psycho-Kore Island, a small metropolis surrounded by tropical jungles. It is here that strange phenomena seems to congregate mysteriously. People disappear and bizarre sightings come up every day. Meltdown, a mecca of lawless chaos for the bizarre to thrive and do as they please, makes everyday life difficult. From a young age, Kinova joined up with a mercenary group known as the Subjugators who have been tasked to take out various criminal groups in the city to try and bring some sense of order. Kinova would serve as a spy and infiltrator in order to uncover vital secrets. This effort would be ultimately fruitless as the Subjugators disbanded after the bombing and destruction of their jungle headquarters after only 5 years of operation.

Kinova would then spend the next few years lying low from the people who would want him and the rest of the surviving Subjugators dead, only ever surfacing to visit the ruins of the HQ. Only, on one of his visits, he ended up lost in the jungles, and attacked by a strange winged purple insect with a large scorpion-like tail. It would proceed to knock him out and when he awoke, Kinova would find the thing imbedded into his back. Afraid of removing it himself, he went to one of the old Subjugator doctors, only to find that the insect had now fused with his spine. Removal would mean death, and after around a month of observation, it was found that this insect was slowly assimilating Kinova’s body to be used as its own. Afraid for his life, Kinova decided to travel the world to find a method of removing the strange purple being. Needing a method, he contacted a former Subjugator ally who was now in the Marines, and joined himself to provide his former paramilitary skills. Time goes on, and already Kinova’s mind grows hazy, and a familiar purple chitin has started growing on his skin…

I'd be up to co-gming one if someone wants to start a new one. My story if I did GM one would be a crew going through the straw hat arcs and seeing how they would act and change the world based on that. Basically a big "what if" story.

Attempting to replicate the main story to One Piece is doomed to failure, as shown by this RP. Consider, for a moment, how One Piece is designed around the main character meeting a succession of quirky characters. The idea of a "main character" and the idea that a bunch of characters don't exist until the plot demands they do is inherently difficult to adapt to a freeform RP. Instead, why not set the RP in the One Piece setting, but avoid having it share the One Piece plot?

To be fair, the later seasons of One Piece have the crew split up and do their own stories instead of just following luffy, although Luffy is the one who beats up the big bad.

If this RP is dead, I would be up for starting another one. I'm not sure how involved I could be at the current time given work goings on, but I should be coming out of that soon. I wouldn't exactly be the best choice for a full on canon run of OP, since my experience with the source material itself is limited, but I think the world is so vast that it's relatively easy to create alternate settings to have plots around. If I was to run one though, it would be much more streamlined. No offence to everyone who got accepted but having 18 people in an RP at once can get unwieldy. I'd be in favor of a smaller crew and rotating villains/Marines to challenge the pirates.

I think the best way for something like this to work is the captain recruits all of the crew at the same time in one place and as the rp begins, our chars have to learn to work together, and get along. And everyone's personality and back story could be revealed over time. Of course I would also go with a smaller crew.

That's just my opinion though.

@Shanks That's pretty much exactly what I figured. Everyone starts in the same place and comes together through some series of events and that's how the RP kicks off. If I get caught up on my writing then I'm definitely up for starting something.
