Battlefield

Name: Sandtides

Size: 1 mile by 1 mile (most won't be used)

Properties:

* The various smaller sand islands scattered about the bay sink downward very easily if treaded upon by anything larger than a rodent, being incredibly unstable. Within four back and forth posts of moderate combat scenarios, half of the island will be submerged to cause water to go up to the ankles or deeper depending on how far at the edge you are. After eight posts only a small portion of the island will have ankle deep water, the rest completely submerged and reforming a bit away into another island as they drift in gentle tides. If the players agree then it can be raining, speeding up the process of islands vanishing by two times.

* Multiple small brown and reddish brown crabs skitter around the sand, burrowing and shifting it around for some mysterious purpose. Most are the size of mice but some seen around can become as large as cats. They're mostly very cautious so will scurry away when you get too close. They only attack if you provoke them or in a very vulnerable state, in which case they all swarm in, grabbing on and trying to drag the person down into the sandy depths. If both players agree then the crabs will be much more aggressive all the way down to not taking any aggressive action at all.

* The water is calm enough where it's only gently flowing around, carrying you to another of the sand islands. It's 400 feet deep at the deepest but the amount varies depending on the level of sand around.

Player Capacity: Duel on a single island with two people or multiple people spreading across the islands is recommended.

Description: A large number if islands made out of sand is scattered around the bay, always shifting around as sand leaves some islands and builds up into another. Most are around 80 feet long but the actual shapes and sizes can vary wildly.

The largest island in the middle is made out of rock, grass, plants, and tropical trees so never goes under half a mile long by a quarter of a mile wide. Sand can build up on the outskirts to increase it's size. There's a crater near the middle that's 800 feet across. The edges are rocky and steep so would take a decent amount of effort to climb back out if you fall in, which could badly hurt normal people due to being 40 feet deep, luckily not being at a 90 degree angle so could have some rolling down to help keep the damage down, if only a little.

The water is crystal clear and beautiful near the surface but due to the large amounts of sand swirling below it quickly gets murky down lower.

Flavour Text: The sand tides are famous for shipwrecking many ships long ago due to the constant shifting, although the wreckage has been cleaned up both by workers and the crabs, who mysteriously drag objects down below the sand if they're left unattended. Rumor has it, which is very likely, that the skeletons missing from the wrecks are still underneath the sand. Although the crabs aren't known to be incredibly aggressive, the creepy nature of these rumors and some instances of people disappearing is enough to stop most tourism to the Sandtides.

@ImportantNobody You can post first, there's not much point in me starting as the nature of this arena makes it far more likely your character will be spotted first, followed by mine ascending from the water like the creepy bitch she is.

Which outfit are you fighting her in?

Don't really mind, though the second one looks somewhat more practical, so I'd recommend it.

That's the one that allows her to summon her actual armor on top of it through her flames onto the guantlets. It will help her a lot in this battle.

She'll probably need a fair bit of help considering the terrain, so feel free to bring whatever is stronger.

I wonder what would happen if Evvie retreats to the big island. Would Anna want to follow her there? If they both stick to the area of their advantage then they may end up in a staring contest that never ends.

She probably wouldn't follow her further than 100 feet from a large body of water, as that's her control range.

So it probably would turn into a staring contest.

Sorry, couldn't reply to night because of essay writing.

Hopefully I'll reply tomorrow afternoon, before I get slaughtered.

Otherwise expect it the day after that.

I'll leave it up to Evvie's personally not to just fly around staring at her so we can continue the fight...or maybe some dues ex crabs will show up and carry Anna to the center of the island! Problem solved! jk

I'm in no rush.

By any chance, maybe she could convince Anna that she saw an awesome ice cream truck in the crater and wants Anna to come with her to check it out. :D

It seems to be a feature of my fights with Evvie that my characters are standing back trying to manipulate her into the coup de grace.

You need to make a master tactician at some point and just shoot my character to get some revenge for Evvie.

The problem is if I make someone really smart and I make a mistake then they seem like an idiot who should clearly have known better giving their expertise and experience. My smartest character, Rave, has his scatterbrained excuse for momentary slip ups.

I suppose so, but it's better sometimes to be able to analyse a situation in minute detail for a day or two and then have your character come up with the best possible solution. They've done it in seconds and that's why they're amazing tacticians, while you get the luxury of time to think of the best idea.

It's sort of like playing chess with very long pauses, anyone can be pretty good in those circumstances.

I have some respectably intelligent people like my goody goody knight. Most are about average, I would say, off the top of my head. Oh yeah, and the goody goody knight's not so secret admirer is incredibly cunning.

Evvie likely has fought some sort of wip-like weapon before (her reactions are fast but if she knew what was coming it helps her dodge even faster), she just doesn't plan that far ahead and needed to block it right then so she couldn't think of anything else, plus she believes she can hold the attack back and destroy it anyways.

EDIT: Oh yeah, with her turning her torso it probably would cause pain from her wound. Don't want to edit my post so we can just assume she's feeling a bit of a burn right now, of course the adrenaline blocking a lot of it out though.

I think you may have misunderstood the effect hitting the water tendril with the staff had. I used the word 'wrap' in the same way you may 'wrap' a baseball bat round someone's head, as in to hit something so hard the weapon bends at the point of contact and crashes around. That's why I then said the tendril was coming in from behind her (because it had about six feet of extra water to work with, that extra water wrapped around the staff and crashed into her back.)

It isn't literally wrapping around the staff like a whip.

Wrapping around the staff would have the same effect as that description at the point in time of Evvie turning to fire upon it. It's only that if it wraps around it would keep circling around the staff, so once it reaches the 90 degree turn is when you'd either see it start to turn around the staff again or, if you water has indeed turned solid, just stay at that position (the "embedded into her poor spine if she didn't have time to dodge" position).
