"Welcome aboard," added Shiranui.

Liam inquired on he location of the closet gym. Sycamore admitted that there was one in this town, but it is highly advised you have at least four badges before challenging it. He recommends heading south down Route 4 to Santalune City for the first badge. Liam decided that he and Shiranui needed to show these new trainers how to catch a Pokemon.

"I agree," replied Shiranui, "It may be second nature to us, but it is our duty to show the others the ropes."

"I guess we will go show them when they are ready." Liam said/

"I'm ready!" Sam said excited. "I can't believe I'm going to catch my first pokemon!"

"I already know how." Ryan replied as he followed everyone.

@NightmareInd"What about you, Sam?" asked Shiranui.

@James Davy "Well, my sister has shown me some of the basics, but I don't think I remember them all." Sam answered, as he followed the group. He did remember his sister telling him the best place to start was at route 4 and afterwards going to the Santalune City gym.

"Well, lets go catch some Pokemon." Liam said.

The group beheld Route 4 and Shiranui was awestruck at how well-kept the route looked. "I've never seen anything like it," he stated.

A male Ralts wandered infant of the heroes.
"Ralts, the Feeling Pokemon. Ralts senses the emotions of people using the horns on its head. This Pokémon rarely appears before people. But when it does, it draws closer if it senses that the person has a positive disposition."

"I'll show you what to do." Liam said. He called on Scarlet.
"Ember!" Liam called. Scarlet spat small flames toward the little Pokemon. The flames hit Ralts, who retaliated with Confusion. Scarlet was hit critically. Liam ordered another Ember and burned Ralts. Ralts used Confusion and missed.
"Once you weaken a Pokemon, you throw a ball and try to catch it." Liam explained. He tossed a Luxary Ball at Ralts, who got sucked in. It shook three times and snapped shut.
"And that is all there is to it." Liam said as he reclaimed the ball.

Shiranui was reminded of his Gardevoir Titania while he watched Liam catch the Ralts. He had a feeling of what Liam's new friend would become. "Another thing to take into consideration is what type of Poké Ball you use," Shiranui instructed the newcomers, "For instance, a Dusk Ball works better in a dark environment such as inside a cave or during the night."

Liam continued the explanation. "Luxury Balls make the Pokemon more friendly. Net Balls are more effective on bug and water types, Nes Balls on ones that are weaker, and Heal Balls which completely restore the Pokemon caught in them. There are also Great and Ultra Balls. They are basically improved Pokeballs. They are rare, but there are also Master Balls. They are 100% guaranteed to catch a wild Pokemon.

[Flood]

Ryan looked around and saw a wild Combee, definitely a female. You can tell by the mark on its chest. "Fuma, use Quick Attack." Fuma jumped off of Ryan's shoulder and rushed at the Combee. Fuma's Protean kicked into effect as he turned into a normal type. The Combee whipped up a Gust and it went straight towards Fuma. " Fuma dodge!" Ryan yelled as Fuma kept over the Gust and the Combee. " Fuma, Bubble!" Fuma blew a stream of bubbles at the Combee and knocked it onto the ground. Meanwhile Protean kicked into effect once more as he turned back into a water type. " Fuma, Pound her." Fuma jumped on the Combee and hit her a few times as Ryan prepared a Pokeball. Ryan underhand tossed it towards the Combee and watched as it was sucked into the Pokeball. It wobbled a few times and clicked. "Good job Fuma. Come back." Fuma ran towards Ryan with the Pokeball and handed it to him with its tongue. Ryan chuckled slightly and clipped it onto his belt.

Sam nodded. He checked his backpack. His sister gave him a few pokeballs along with the pokeballs he got from the professor. His sister also gave him a luxury ball and a dusk ball. He went into the flower beds, looking for pokemon, when a wild Budew got out of the flowers. Sam got out his pokedex. "Budew, the Bud Pokémon. In winter, it keeps its bud closed to survive the cold, but then opens it again in the spring." Okay then, let's do this! Sam thought. "Froakie, go!" He said as he threw out his pokeball. Froakie got out, and took a fighting position. "Now, do pound!" Sam said. Froakie followed his lead and did pound on the grass pokemon, who reacted by using growth. "Do it again!" Froakie repeated the attack, getting the Budew low on health, while it did another growth. It was now ready to do absorb, but before it could do so, Sam already threw his luxury ball at it. The bud pokemon got absorbed by the ball, then it shook three times, before making the sound Sam was hoping for. Sam threw his arms into the air. "I did it! I captured my first pokemon! Did you guys see that?!" Froakie jumped into Sam's arms and gave him a hug. "Return, Froakie!" Sam said as Froakie returned to his pokeball. Now, Sam had two pokemon.

Shiranui saw something in a red flower patch. He pulled out his Pokédex and scanned it. "Flabébé, the Single Bloom Pokémon. When it finds a flower it likes, it dwells on that flower its whole life long. It floats in the wind's embrace with an untroubled heart."
"Higitsune, it's time for your first battle!" He sent his Fennekin out. "Start with Ember!" Higitsune breathed out a few embers and landed a hit on Flabébé. Flabébé countered with Fairy Wind and Higitsune felt it. "Poké Ball, go!" Shiranui threw a Poké Ball and Flabébé was drawn in. After it shook thrice, the ball snapped shut and Shiranui picked it up. "Welcome aboard, Hana." Higitsune jumped for joy.

Liam noticed a pond along the route. He saw something sitting halfway in the water and went to investigate.

Ryan looked at everyone catching their Pokemon and smiled. A bond would form quickly between such strong trainers. He noticed Liam heading towards a pond and watched him closely. The Professor told him to keep a close eye on everyone, which seemed strange considering he was new as well, but he took his orders seriously. He didn't want Liam to get attacked by a wild water type and not be prepared.
