In little more than a week, I will have been a roleplayer for all of ten years. In celebration of this anniversary, I will be redoing the basic concept of the very first RP I ever made. It was heavily inspired (read; completely ripped off of) by Marvel's “X-Men” comics and I was twelve years old, so the idea is rather cliché. But, hey, clichés are used for a reason, right?
---------
Ten years.
Has it really been that long? It feels like just yesterday, that the lights went out. That the city was engulfed in eternal darkness. That the walls rose from the ground and the lives of thousands of people changed forever. That the Crusaders started roaming the streets and we, the people like me, had to cower in fear and hide away like rats. Even with the resistance force fighting off the metal men, we become fewer and fewer. Even though more of us are born, even more are killed.
It wont be long. We'll all be dead by the end of the year.
Who are we? Well, if you don't know, you're a lucky one. They call us many things; freaks, mutants and monsters are amongst the more common ones. We like to call ourselves Supernaturals, Superhumans or just Supers. What we are called does not really matter; it's what we can do that people hate us for. We are the next link in human evolution, they say. Really, we are just a bunch of people who can do shit that other people cannot. I've seen everything from people who can breathe under water to people who can become water. There's one of us that is far more famous than the rest; the Technopath. Yeah, it doesn't sound very imposing, does it? Well, he's the whole reason the rest of us are down here; him and his Crusaders. His power is magnificent. He can build and control any machine he wants; all he needs is an idea.
His Crusaders are the proof of his prowess. These metal men are indestructible androids build from scrap metal from the junkyard. Each of them can build even more Crusaders. Each of them is as smart as their creator. They can scan any living organism for the genes that make us special; that super gene. If they find it in someone, they will kill them. Most of the time, anyways. A few times, people have simply been taken.
----------
The World
The main setting is a very dystopian, pseudo post-apocalyptic version of a big city, where the regular people are oppressed into submission without much opportunity to rebel, but also without much reason. Despite the fact that the power is out for good and they are walled within the city borders, they are allowed to live their lives as they always has, for the most part. Crime is nonexistent, as the Crusaders make short progress of deviants.
The Supers, however, are hunted and killed on sight by the Crusaders, the indestructible android soldiers of the Techopath. They have been forced to run and hide. Most of them have taken to the sewers and underground tunnels, some hide out in abandoned buildings and few ever managed to get past the heavily guarded walls.
The Supers
At first, it was believed that those who developed powers beyond the regular human's capabilities were chosen at random. It started with a few of them, maybe two or three hundred at most, scattered all over the world. Some of them were hailed as heroes, some were killed like monsters. The records of how they actually came to be are scarcely detailed and little is known of how they spread as quickly as they did, but within a century, they had spread from hundreds to millions. The human to super-human ratio was as high as 1:20. For every one super, there were only twenty regular humans.
The supers' powers seem to be developed at random and although the chance of a super having a super child seems to be higher than for a regular human, there are a lot of regular children born to super parents. Even if both parents are supers, the child may be regular. The nature of their powers are random, as well. Two telepaths may have a pyrotechnic child and their second child may possess super strength.
The Crusaders
When the Technopath first arrived to the city, he brought with him and army of androids. Back then, they were not quite as advanced as they are now. These metal men come in varying kinds and sizes, depending on the purpose they were build for. They are all virtually indestructible, learn from their mistakes and have a hive mind as they are all connected to the Technopath himself.
Each of the androids have the ability to scan any living being to check their genetic code for the mutation that causes these super-human abilities to appear. If a mutation is found, the target is neutralized immediately, no matter the age or ability. A few, very rare cases of supers being taken rather than killed are rumored to have taken place, but each of these concern children that had yet to show any sign of their mutation. They might as well have been regular humans, for all the general public knows.
The Resistance
The remaining supers, who have not yet been killed or caught, fled underground, to abandoned buildings and where ever else they could hide from the prying cyber-eyes of the Crusaders. They live in constant fear of discovery and, for most, little hope of ever changing the way things are.
Then the Resistance rose. A group of super-human soldiers in all ages and kinds, ready to oppose the Technopath and regain the life they had once lived, despite the dangers it brought. The Resistance work in many different ways; partly finding new supers before the Crusaders do, partly keeping the undergrounds safe and clear of the Technopath's influence. They collect provisions for those not brave enough to venture to the surface and information on the state of the world. But their most important task and the one they have yet to succeed at, is finding and dethroning the Technopath and destroying his Crusaders.
The Technopath
Ten years ago, this man appeared on every television screen, computer monitor, tablet, smartphone and whatever other screen there was to be looked at. The sight of his smirking face was less than expected. His first words were to announce himself as simply “The Technopath”. He explained what this title entailed and that he, and he alone, would be in charge of any and all piece of machinery in the city. To prove his point, the power went out, leaving only the screens that showed his face to remain on. He then told of his Crusaders, which were already roaming the streets at this point. And then of their purpose. Many people were killed in an instant. A few moments later, the walls rose; big giant walls of iron rose as if from the ground itself and trapped the entire city and all of its inhabitants inside.
The screens went black and stayed that way.

We, the players, will take the roles of members of the Resistance. I would prefer that each player stick to one character, but I will allow multiples if the characters are connected (siblings, cousins, childhood friends). I strongly encourage character interaction and relationships and romance is allowed as long as it is kept clean.
You are allowed to create and control as many NPCs as you want; just keep in mind that others can control them as well. If you wish to make characters that you will not directly play, but you do not want others to play just shoot me a PM.
Please post your character application in the OOC and wait for it to be accepted before posting it in the Character Tab.
I trust that you are able to make balanced characters and that I do not have to tell you not to make them over powered. I also trust that you know not to god-mod, metagame or whatever without me having to say so.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them; there are no stupid questions, only bad answers.
