You wake in your bed in the midst of the night, a cold sweat covering your body. It is midsummer in Salem, Massachusetts, and the year is 1632. Salem is a small, budding village, slowly becoming a destination for many settlers. But whoever you are, however you arrived in Salem, you can't help but feel that something is dreadfully wrong tonight, some ominous taste in the air, or how the very essence of the night seems to be carved in blood. Somebody in Salem has died tonight.

Welcome to A Murder in Salem, a roleplay based on the party game Mafia. In this game, each person will be randomly assigned a certain role in the village. The roles fall into two major categories: villagers, and killers. The villagers are attempting to find the killers, voting to hang a player at the end of each day. The killers are attempting to remain hidden while they murder another villager each night. The villagers win if the killers are all hung, and the killers win if they outnumber the villagers.

The game begins at night. The killers will communicate with the GM through PM and vote on who they will kill. They will be given a 24-hour deadline to make this decision. Once a decision has been made, the GM will post describing the death of that villager. Each player will then post in character, describing their reaction to the death, and talking amongst themselves. Posts in this stage will be fast, and one-liners are acceptable. Metagaming in the OOC is also encouraged. Each player will then make a vote on who they think the killer is, or they can vote to hang nobody if they wish. There will be a 24-hour deadline on this as well. The accused will be hung at dusk, and then night will fall once again.

Please note, neither IC or OOC should you ever reveal your role. While this is a roleplay, the point is to win and you cannot win by being honest. You are encouraged to lie and manipulate in order to achieve your goal.

ROLES: Standard Game
Villager - A common civilian. Will attempt to determine whom the killers are, and hang them during the day. Can vote on a single player during each day to hang. Whomever has the majority vote will be hanged at dusk.
Killer - Players whom meet together at night and vote to kill someone in their sleep. Are trying to appear innocent.
Sheriff - A villager whom can secretly investigate a single player each night by PMing the GM. Will know whether or not that player is a killer. Should keep their identity a secret from the killers.
Doctor - A villager whom can secretly visit one player each night by PMing the GM. If that player is attacked by the killers, they will be saved. Should keep their identity a secret from the killers.

You are a settler in Salem during the colonial era. There is no electricity, transportation is done via horse and carriage, and firearms are in limited supply. Vast woods surround the town, and construction is limited to single-story wooden homes. Christianity has a very large influence in this age. There is a church and a governor's office, but the most noteworthy landmark in Salem is the gallows located in the centre of the town.

Biography: She settled in the village as a teenage girl with her family, and took up odd jobs to help keep the family economically stable. They had little, but they were happy. Her father died 10 years ago from an illness, and her mother never fully recovered. As such, Ruby became the main breadwinner of the family, and got a job at a small inn, as a barmaid. She manages to earn just enough to keep the house and the family together. Ruby also has a younger brother who is 15 years old. He tries to earn money, but is quite lazy and often tries to get out of doing work.

Biography: Just lumberjack from up north. He hopes to make a living supplying building material and firewood. He grew up mostly speaking French, however he has also learned to be fluent in English. He moved down south to escape the complicated politics going on in his home town. He was never big on politicians and didn't want to get wrapped up in such things. He figured that it would be better to just escape for a little while and return once all the conflict has settled, if it ever will.

Reinhold is of rather average male height, being only 5’7. He weights a modest 130 pounds. His ruffled auburn hair is mostly middle length with the exception his pony tail at the back that drops below his shoulders. He has sharp facial features with sky blue eyes. This gives him a rather intimidating look the moment he drops his smile. Being a baker, he has developed rather toned arms from endless hours of kneading though the rest of his body leaves much to be desired. Reinhold’s build definitely falls on the skinny side.

Biography
Reinhold migrated from Italy 5 years ago in prospects of a more lucrative life. He was able to join the Spanish colonization program through various contacts his family had at the time. Though the journey was difficult and the death toll was high, he had succeeded. Not long after, he made a bold move to become a travelling merchant. He used his savings to purchase a horse and wagon so he could he make a living from bartering goods from settlement to settlement.

It was only a year ago that Reinhold had amassed enough wealth to purchase a house. By coincidence, he had been at Salem at the time and opted to settle down there. The port was full of bustling activity and he saw the opportunity to make a profit by merchanting the goods that arrived there daily. At the same time, he began to learn the ways of baking as a side job. Ironically, his baking became more and more successful and was more enjoyable than haggling with other merchants and it became his main job instead. Reinhold still does merchanting but on a smaller scale as opposed to before.

Biography: Her family was one of the first to settle in the town. But building a town from nothing was hard, and both her parents died soon after arriving. Her older brother spent the following years taking care of her. He always wanted her to be taken care of, so when he got a deep cut on his leg by the time Catrina noticed it would too late for herbs to do anything and her brother too, died. Now she works at other people's farms and sells candles that she makes to keep food in her belly.

Appearance: He is 5"8 and weighs about 155 pounds. He has medium length black hair that reaches just past his ears, and has brown eyes. His usual attire is a white cotton shirt and brown stitched pants. His facial features look rather homely, and overall he has an average build.

Biography: Charles moved to Salem with his parents several years ago. He mostly just helps with the home chores as well as miscellaneous chores at the family-owned tailor shop, but wants to be able to leave someday. He wants to explore the rest of the country, and plans to join the militia once he's old enough. His parents are strictly against it, wanting him to pick up the family trade of being a tailor. He can't stand the thought of being stuck in one place though.

Biography: Sam's parents were smiths, and pretty good ones. He came with his parents to Salem a few years ago. His parents died not long ago because they were attacked by a bear. He now lives as the new blacksmith of the town and what most people notice when they enter the shop is the rug made of a bear on the floor.

You know on Mangafox they play Mafia games all the time but on the scales of 40+ players. Although generally theres about 10~15 ish people who vanish, they're pretty awesome. Sadly, everyone seems to know each other and its a circlejerk making it hard for new people to really get in on the fun. Cuz everyone else will be PMing each other and you need to hope they let in on the action :/

Appearance: Seoriol is just below average height for his time, and has a lean build from living an ascetic lifestyle, made all the more rugged since coming to the colonies. his once dark hair has begun to turn grey, but his eyes are the same deep brown they ever were.

Biography: Seoriol was born to a family packed full of children, where they tended a farm not far from Abberffraw in northwestern Wales. He was well-fed enough, but didn't receive much in the way of attention from his parents. He sought a way to fill the void this left in his heart, and was very quickly taken with the church. When he turned 15, the farm burned down, fortunately not taking any of his family. This did, however, bring about the question of how everyone was going to eat. both of his sisters were already married, and his older brother already worked for his own meal, but he and his two younger siblings (one sister and one brother) were still with his parents. His father decided, that, like other children at the time, he and his brother were old enough to get a job. His father's experience got him a job as a farm hand, and his brother's small size made him ideal for factory work, but Seoriol could not find employment. Then their local priest suggested that the devout young man take up a position with the clergy. After much training and long hours of studying in the candlelight, he was ordained as a priest. He served in Abberffraw for many years before being appointed a vicar—a representative of the bishop—and shipped off to the colonies, to Salem, to serve those living there. He has been in Salem for just over a decade, and in that time has become a respected member of the community.
