The Sun Will Never Set


There is one word that matters in this world, this modern world, that word is progress. It is the fuel that makes us go forward, progress. Progress has lead the great nations of this planets through tough times and it has made easy times easier but progress takes the form of many things. Revolution! Radical new ideas that have the power to shake countries to their foundation. Technology! The beating heart of industrial nations, churning out goods for the masses or the beating wings of an artisan society propelled by new techniques and materials. War! Battling against your enemies to further your culture, faith, territory. And diplomacy, to build bridges over rough water and to walk to the other side to embrace your comrade. Progress takes many forms, will your progress stand the test of time?

The last 150 years have been a roller coaster of progress, technologies and ideologies spread like wild fire and contest against each other, long lived monarchies were toppled by the power of their people, the sky was added to the domain of man with the introduction of flight! The seas were tamed by ships of steel, sailing across choppy water to bring trade or to wage war, the land was crisscrossed by vast stretches of rail that carried the fruits of the earth to factories and carried back wondrous products. Culture spread from one end of the globe to the other with the power of film and radio and religions contested one another for followers. This is a glorious new age, an age where The Sun Will Never Set.

Welcome to "The Sun Will Never Set", a fantasy nation RP set in a time that resembles the 1930's-1940's and is focused on the themes and technologies of the time, including colonialism, looming wars and spheres of influence.In this RP I intend on completely limiting the use of stats, facts and figures and instead will rely on character interaction and mutual agreement to build he history of the planet, yes, even the wars will not be stat based but instead will be fought between players and an outcome will be decided between them, whether they want or use stats or not. So, basically I'm giving you guys a lot of responsibility and I expect maturity, no super duper nations and the understanding that it is OK to be on the LOSING side; its fine if your tank army is beaten by a rag tag group of revolutionaries, it only serves to add to the story! It's all up to how you guys want to play it out.

1. My word is law, it is final unless I go back on it. I would love to hear ideas, opinions and suggestions but if I don't say yes, please don't flip out.

2. I only want LIGHTHEARTED debates in the OOC, I don't want to see hide nor hair of a legit argument. Either calm down or resolve it in PM.

3. No Godmodding/Powergaming/Metawhatsit, what is stated in the OOC that has credence in the RP is not known to your characters unless it meant to be known.

4. Grammar and spelling must be readable. Posts should not be one sentence. I want to see some good paragraphs. Of course if there's not much to post, that's fine, post it anyway.

5. STAY ACTIVE! PLEASE! If your are thinking of joining the NRP, keep in mind I require that you post at least once every two days. I get things can get hectic in life, but want to see this be fairly active and not die four posts into the IC. Let us know if you are going on some sort of extended absence and try to tie up any loose ends so you don't leave other players hanging.-

6. The Great War Machines! Now war is always fun to have in NRPs, and I am going to be very liberal on big nations possessing some massive war machine. However, the few restrictions I will apply is that you can't just whip it out on every battle and they will be generally be slow moving. Other than that, go nuts! Just understand they are not really there to win your nation a war, but to add to the world and have a Goliath for David to face. Be reasnable please, please?

7. On that note, technology in general! I will say that we shall limit it generally to something of the early 1910's-1930's AKA, no jets at all, wider diversity of armored vehicles and aircraft, etc. Flying wings and such will be allowed and to be honest, I will just play it by ear.

8. Have fun! No really, I'm being half serious here. This is a fantasy/adventure based NRP with notable characters, places, and wars alike! Don't get to caught up in realism and just sit back and let things slide by. We are all here to have a good time, so simply shrug and move on from it.

Alright, I would wish you to elaborate on the assumptions for fantastical elements.
I suppose classic humanoid races are fine. You did comment me on that there won't be any explicit magic, though.
Also what about typical fantasy materials like mithril or using alchemy-like methods to produce chemicals that have capabilities beyond what we would have in reality?
I would think if fantasy races are allowed then so are such elements but I'm certainly not the GM here.

Also saying it's 1910-1930 tech is actually fairly vague.
Dates in general are pretty vague because we could've skipped many decades in development if certain people thought about these inventions sooner.
Add the fantastical element which may negate the need to wait for more proper materials (because they already exist) or sufficient industry (because you can have them sooner) thus you may as well run around with early cold war era weapons in 1914.
So yeah, I think this part is subject to change.

The technology you are limited to for now is 1930-1940, I changed it in the first post from 1910. And as for materials, go ahead and make what you want, as long as it isn't too OP and you can explain it decent enough. @Willy Vereb

I will be working on my Nation Sheet soon, as @Cyclone and I were both in the same boat.
My school already started so assignments are flowing in non-stop.
But post every two days should not be a problem for me, I hope...

Sorry to point it out but it just kinda bug me.

Also, do we start off with only capital city, or we can already have several cities.

@Cyclone I would have appreciated if you posted it OOC first but nevermind that. I like it, I really do but I have one or two tid-bits:

-You may want to decrease how similar the Tin religion is to the certain religion I think you are aluding to, some people might find it offensive that you are trying to copy it.

-Add some brightness to it, the Arab culture is not just barbaric.

Otherwise I really liked it, gives me a taste of how your nation will function and maybe how things will pan out.

Well I figured I can always just edit it over there. I've never quite liked having a sheet in both the OOC and the character section because then it means two posts to update.

Ah, I think you're jumping to conclusions a bit quickly. The religion isn't Islam (rather dragon worship, as I was eventually going to make a section describing). I can see why you'd think otherwis with 'Caliphate' and 'Sultanate' but I just chose those words because they are less cliche than 'kingdom' or 'empire'.

As in for the culture, they are actually based mostly off the Mongols, a people that are indeed known more for violence than they are for much else (a bit unjustly perhaps, as they did promote trade and tolerance to some extent). I noticed the Russian influence in your nation and saw that the only real desert in the world was right there, so I figured we'd be neighbors. For a long time the Russians were constantly fighting off Kazan, Nogai, the Golden Horde, and so on, which led me to this idea.

So believe me when I say I'm not trying to dehumanize Arabs or demean their culture or their history. Now I'd like for my nation to be a somewhat bloody and archaic one (more suited for the medieval and Rennaisance times than the era this RP is in) but if you for whatever reason still object I'll change that.

Edit: But speaking of the Russians and their fighting steppe hordes, any interest in making some history between our nations? It doesn't necessarily have to be just wars.

Yeah, I've played Europa Universalis a fair amount. I like Crusader Kings 2 and the Total War games too. I have an interest in ancient and medieval history and warfare, and that bleeds through into my choice of RPs and video games.

On the topic of history between our nations, we may as well talk about it here to bump the thread so that hopefully others find their way in. I'll fill out more of my sheet when I get home as I figure more information will make this easier, but how do you feel that our nations' relations should be? Whether you'd prefer to have a vengeful enemy at your throat from the beginning, a mostly neutral neighbor, or a steadfast ally will determine what type of history we should make. Since battles are fun to write out and I have a rather hostile nation, I lean towards our nations being rivals if not enemies, but I'm not opposed to something else.

Well, the way I see it is that I want Ventum to have good relations with your country so I can exploit you later. For minerals and such, your conservative politics would probably not want it though but I feel like I would be trying to modernize you so you can be a useful puppet.

Ah, sorry for not responding for a while.

Anyways, I thought about creating something like elves for this setting.
They'd be descendants of prehistoric birds so they're fragile but somewhat more speedy.
Their heightened senses and good sense of balace/physics also help them to get ahead with a few inventions.
They'd be also arrogant as hell.

My Elves are basically Roman/French/Italians in terms of culture.
As for claims on materials I may wish to take mine on Mithril and a certain type of rocket fuel.
I can even write a semi-legitimate paper on each.
But I think most players would prefer the simple format.

Mithril in particular will be essential for my nation because elves are physically weaker and can't carry around that much weight.
Mithril is going to be pretty much my nation's equivalent of steel.
It looks beautiful and such but basically it won't be that much of a "super rare super OP material".
