Maybe he'll achieve enlightenment and in so doing release the ghosts forevermore. Then he will lead Formaroth into a glorious new age with all he has learned from the ghosts that were never actually there.

Or he could simply get locked up.

perhaps with the door bricked up so that there's only a narrow slot to put food in through.

That would certainly give him plenty of time to engage in intellectual discussion with his invisible friends, yes. They will unravel the secrets of the universe together.

As created by @Ellri here is the new Ranking of nobility within Formaroth:

Royalty
High King/High Queen (self-explanatory)
King/Queen (rules a single Formarothi kingdom, can be referred to as Lord or Lady though only by those of High Nobility)

High Nobility (anyone who is part of this tier can also be referred to as "Lord/Lady")
Grand Duke/duchess (Rulers of the major houses in an individual kingdom)
Marquess/Marchioness (Grand Duke's heir/heiress)
Lord/Lady (lesser members of high noble houses)

Low nobility (anyone who is part of this tier can also be referred to as "Lord/Lady")
Duke/Duchess (Rulers of lesser houses)
Count/Countess (Heirs to a lesser house heads)
Lord/lady (lesser nobles not inheriting any other title)

Knights (Referred to as Ser)
Middle classes
Merchants
Master Artisans

Lower classes
Commoners
Serfs (if serfdom is used within the kingdom)
Slum Dwellers

I will make edit's to my character sheet and the NPC character sheet accordingly. Other may want to do the same.

Now I know which Dyril is, which helps. Though sadly it's second to bottom but that's only a minor flaw. ;P

True, but she's not in the Imperium now which I doubt that political structure will translate over well or in the same fashion.

Lanaya is currently a Countess... Unless Duncan did restore her old house as promised, in which case she is a Duchess.

Of course, it wont matter when she becomes High Queen. xD

@TheDuncanMorgan What about Aulus? Is he now no longer a Baron, but a Duke?

@Kho Depends, would you say Daeron views Aulus as his son?

The one thing our system doesn't cover too well is branched families. i.e. When does a side branch "come into its own" and become its own house?

Thoughts?

Naturally this system also doesn't take into account the actual power of any family compared to others. we can quite probably end up having families firmly belonging in lesser nobility (or side branches thereof) yet having the same or greater power than a family in high nobility.

I would likely say when a higher up acknowledges them as such in my mind. That's usually when it's official and actually matters the most, because when one higher up recognizes that then others begin to. However, that's just my vague thinking.

Yeah, Aulus is more or less part of the family - enough for him to view Hemala as his sister and vice versa. Daeron also seems to have wished for Aulus to be at his side when the time is right.

But I only ask the question because the new rank system doesn't seem to take Barons into account, and that leaves me wondering what Aulus is now. He's technically the head of House Eskandar (a very minor house) and nominally/titularly Lord of Castle Cramz.

we wanted to keep the system simple. That's why there's no barons... but they're typically low nobility. Perhaps those could belong to powerful side-branches that have not yet become a house of their own, yet are acknowledged by the court as such?

Yay, Claus is higher up than slum dweller!

Even if he did pretty much act like one. :P

His technical title would however be merchant middle class.
Sort of.
Since his family kinda disowned him, he's perhaps not technically a merchant.
However, i'd guess a men-at-arms would go into this category as well?

Or perhaps knight is not a nobleman title in this setting, and refers to what i usually call man-at-arms?
(Non nobles who are hired by a noble, often knight to be a elite bodyguard and/or battlefield unit. As it says on the perry miniatures mounted men-at-arms box, there was usually about 3 men-at-arms for every proper knight, all would have similar gear though. This is the 1400s though.)

Regardless, i just assume Claus is middle class.
Unless he is knighted and/or landed.

Of course, it wont matter when she becomes High Queen. xD

It's gonna be a long journey to explain our marriage. ;)

@Klomster Claus's position is currently an interesting one. Being a mercenary captain he doesn't really fit into the social structure the way everyone else does. I guess he could be in the middle class in terms of status. Although having said that he currently has as much authority as a member of the High Nobility what with him being a leading commander in the Concords army.

@Kho

Edit: Aulus is either a lord of a High noble family or a Duke of a low noble family.
