I can help with that. So my thinking was the puzzle is like a key to solving the puzzles and problems of mind, body, and soul. So Bane wants Atem to use his true powers, to tap into them so he can truly understand his powers. And to help Zhara.

Think of all the times Pharaoh banished evil souls or when he helped Kabia in the very beginning. Does that make sense?
