Do you know any sword fighting styles? My favorite is Battou- Jutsu, but my arms ar a little bit too shortl unless im using a curved sword or a shortsword.

I've perused some of Silver's fencing techniques and done some general research into Viking sword and shield combat and HEMA but I don't know any specific fighting styles (as I've never been that interested in the actual practice of sword fighting and the like, it's more of a casual interest as I'm a modern-history student.)

While not actually trained, I do (carefully) practice several japanese sword styles.

Wow we could be really good writing partners. :)

Where is that defense from? I don't really understand it, nor would I ever recommend acrobatics in the Arena unless your character is significantly faster than your opponent.

On the plus side you may survive what would have been death fighting any other Arena opponent turning your back to your foe, because Gladiatorial combat is supposed to be drawn out and exciting.

I dont think i got it from anywhere? But a faster opponent may. not be able to stand the pain and may not be strong enough to do this without breaking their arms. Also, being faster doesnt mean you are more flexible but im sure you know this.

Well, I'm using the adjective faster in arbitrary terms to describe all of a character's movements, though I suppose agile would be more appropriate.

Just so you know I want to keep this thread fairly active as a side project like I mentioned, so there will be a three-day post limit followed by an auto-connect further followed by an execution. This applies against me as well, though I'm unlikely to abandon my own thread.

How far away are you? Because if im very tall, even if you pull back, I'd still think it would reach because your stepping forward, also the spear would only be able to move out of the way (when you pulled back) if your arms were faster then Caspus' legs, which is probable.

My character had to step closer to reach your character's body with the spear, so the point is only just in range of him, when your character avoids the spear he then pulls his spear back ready for another strike (this is the point where your kick would miss, because you're essentially racing the point of a spear which is incredibly quick) and moves in close to make up the distance your character makes by backflipping.

It's less my characters arms that need to be fast and rather the very end of a spear, which is incredibly quick.

You didn't actually say what part of Brennus' body your character was poking at.

I think we have a few issues with the distance between us at the moment, I've mentioned a few times that my character is utilizing the full length of his spear, roughly six feet, and staying about that distance away from your character. Considering his step back as well, it seems unlikely that your character would close to within arm's reach with a single step.

Also, it's less of an issue, but you didn't really clarify how your character was sweeping away Brennus' spear, if he was doing it backhanded (knocking the spear off his left side) or with a more comfortable strike that would place the spear at his right side (and potentially leave it as a major danger to his un-shielded flank.)

Ultimately, your character is not going to be able to step close enough to carry out the move you said, unless you intend to pursue Brennus and take around two steps forward. (or whatever becomes necessary depending on my actions, and this is assuming Brennus -can- be caught, which is about 50-50 in my opinion.)

Now, I don't like to tell people what to do, but I'd recommend just using the long pointy object your carrying to make up the added distance instead.

Will this work?

Edit:
Also, before the edit, I was assuming Caspus was large enough to cover the distance in about one and a half movements.

Might want to cut out the last sentence about trying to trip Brennus, I'd have murdered you for trying anyway and it is no longer applicable.

Otherwise looks good, my character's wooden shield might be in trouble.

-Regarding pre-edit

Caspus is large, but Brennus had a good six feet between them even before stepping backwards himself, I'm not quite as tall as Caspus but I can tell you that even with a serious stride it would take two steps to cover that distance, and you'd probably over-extend heavily while doing so. (Which is risky, especially for a spear and shield user, who tends to carry out medium shuffling style steps for just that reason.)

You have to get past the point of the spear before you can grab the shaft, the point is fairly long and you'd be skewered if you don't divert it first.
