Brennus obviously not met many north women.
Btw, my left side was facing you, hence why she was leading with her left foot. So you actually had to pass her shield to reach her right side. Hence why it was easy to deflect the spear thrust.
Mmhmm, but the strike was still to her extreme right and you're not using a very large shield, there's still a lot more movement there and certainly a more lengthy movement than the point of a spear, which in essence answers your characters question as to why he would carry such a large shield, it saves time.
It's a bit of a historical misnomer that people from the north were tall, but ultimately, no, Brennus has lived in Briton all his life and then been moved south, where people are even smaller. The only conceivably large women he might have seen in his time would be Germanic, and even then a 5ft 9" woman would be -huge- as six foot was rarely if ever reached by even men. Strange thought now, as a six foot three dude, but hey ho.
Also it's a bit strange that your character is confused by my character's shield, I was under the impression it was very common for African tribes-people to use large shields with a centre grip, your characters own shield is the strange one in this scenario, with its medieval knight design (or possibly Hellenic, I suppose)
