Generic Information
Name: Mariah Amor Gender: Female Age: 23 Height: 5'5 Sexuality: Hetero (but might be swayed to bi)
Psych Profile
Traits
Polite - Mariah has grown up in high society and it has been expected of her to be polite to all that she encounters.
Kind - She can be every kind, sometimes over bairingly so, this causes some to get angry at her but she simply forgives them (though she is often hurt by this). They later apologize to her, seeing that they hurt her feelings.
Clever - Mariah has never been one to make a uninformed choice. She weighs the good and the bad and goes from there.
Snake abilities - She has a venomous bite, can move fast and can squeeze the life out of her victims. She is an effective killer.
Flaws
Naive - Sometimes you wonder if she is truly not all there or if she is faking it. Truthfully she is willingly naive, as she rather not believe some of the thing she hears. Plus she heard that men like "dumb" girls.
Easily Hurt - Mariah's feelings can be easily hurt, but then it is kind of expected with her being a sheltered high society brat. She expects everyone to show her respect, but she is finding thats just not the case.
Cold Intolerance - After being turned into a monster (being half snake) she has become intolerant of the cold. If she becomes chilled she slows down and gets sleepy. If she gets too cold she will die.
Addicted to Power - She is finding it hard not becoming addicted to the power of the change. She hopes that she can withhold from losing herself, though her hopes are dwindling.
Backstory:
Mariah was born to a wealthy old money family, who had been in business since the invention of the clockworks. She has known nothing but an easy, leisurely kind of life. She is the second youngest child of Sir Ronald Amor and Lady Vivian Amor, she has six siblings all together. She is the only girl out of the seven children and this has earned her much protection from her older brothers. Her brothers always gave her what she wanted even before she ever asked for it. She was viewed as a brat by some and totally loved by others, though for either one of those two groups she was polite to. Which made some believe that she was faking her kindness, for some maybe, but for the most part she is truly being kind. Mariah truly believed growing up that everyone loved her and that she was a breath of fresh air when someone was feeling down. But then that's how her brothers acted around her, either to please her and have her leave quickly or they really did feel better around her, she will never know.
As she grew older and into her feminine body, she began to catch the eyes of men everywhere. It didn't matter how old or young they were, they all found her beautiful and wished to take her as their bride. Mariah found this rather quite fun, as she had them all wrapped her little finger, just like her brothers. But she wanted someone worth noting, someone that would be the envy of all who saw them together. Sure there were some like that, but they didn't have the grandeur she was looking for. That was when she got invitation to Lord Nixus's Masquerade. She was beyond words in her excitement and couldn't wait to go to the party. Her eldest brother was a little worried about her going to the masque alone, but she quickly put his fears to rest.
Upon arrival to the château she was in awe, but she came here on a mission. She was going to somehow catch the eye of Lord Nixus and hopefully make a good impression. But she was quickly disappointed as the Lord was no where to be found. She mingled with the guests that seemed to be from all over the kingdom, it was rather nice to see new faces. That was when a servant girl tapped her on the shoulder and told her that Lord Nixus wished to see her.
At the time she was truly honored to meet him, but that was quickly dashed when he placed his brand on her.
She is now horrified with what she has become or at least turn into. She can't fight her masters callings and she does what he asks her without much complaint. Though she wishes to be free of the curse and to go home and live a normal life.
Character Motivation: To find a cure for the curse and to live a normal life. But she feels herself becoming addicted to the power of the change, she just hopes they can find that cure in time before she is no longer herself.
Opinion Of Others:
Gwendolyn Argall - "A nice girl, one I don't mind getting to know. I do find her like of the occult to be kind of disturbing, but other then that she is nice.
Edwyn Trethclyde - Charming I guess, but I know when he is being rude to me. I may put on a naive exterior, but I know when I am being mocked. I know he is finding being an abomination fun and entertaining, because of this I don't like being around him.
Lizbeth D'Veaux - A pretty little thing but other than that, I know little about her.
Linta Höhyener - Oh Linta, the young woman who rather act like a man? I never really gotten to know her, but then she never let's people in. She can be cold, but I know she is falling apart. She is becoming addicted to the change like me. I hope we find a cure.
Kipling Baye - oh what to say about the flamboyant peacock? Seriously, you had to have seen his costume at the masque? He is..... oh I don't know. Wait I know, he is a bastards son who has no manners and if Lord Nixus would let me bite him I could end his sorry existence. But alas the master won't let me sink my venomous fangs into him. I will still be polite to him, but on the inside I rather die.
Goram Dorr - Never met him before all this, I really wish I had though. He seems like a really nice person and one that I would like to know better. To bad he hasn't said anything to me yet, maybe I will have to be the one to break the ice first.
Tellion Velkfur - A well known family for their clothing empire. They do make nice clothes..... Anyway, for the young man himself? He's not bad, seems sad though at times but we all have a reason to be sad now (there are those us that like being this namely Edwyn). Maybe once we find a cure for the curse he will be happy, I truly wish happiness for him.
Elia Louisa Reinhardt - What to say about Elia, she can be a nice person if she had some practice at it. Spending all her time in books and machinery has dulled her ability to make polite conversation. I know her opinion of me is low, but I do truly hope we can be friends. As heavens knows she could use one. Over all once that hard shell is broken she can be very nice.
Learned: Gwendolyn isn’t a ditzy noblewoman, she has studied a variety of subjects and loves to learn more whenever she has the chance.
Empathetic: Gwendolyn does not hold grudges, or succumb to hatred. She has a habit of seeing and understanding the motives and behaviors of others, and does not hold their flaws against them.
Fearless: Gwendolyn has never been easily frightened or shocked, and is prone to staying calm in tense or shocking situations where others would panic.
Human Flaws
Ambitious: Gwendolyn likes to act in her own interests, and puts her benefit far before that of others. She is willing to do what it takes to become more powerful.
Eerie: Gwendolyn’s dark interests and aloof behaviors have made her a social pariah for years, despite her good looks.
Doubting: Gwendolyn doesn’t trust others. She believes people are too fickle to be relied upon, and would prefer to do things herself than trust them to have her back.
Monster Traits (Stuff that they do, act and what makes the tick. Can add more if you want)
Far Seeing: A dullahan can see for vast distances, even on the darkest night. Unless, of course, magic blocks its sight.
Unbarred: No matter how firmly they are locked, gates and doors open before the dullahan unless they are magically sealed.
Steed: The dullahan can summon forth a horse of shadows which travels swiftly and in utter silence.
Monster Flaws
Limited Speech: A dullahan is only permitted to speak the names of the dead.
Fear of Gold: Dullahan have an irrational fear of gold, and seeing any gold item will be enough to drive them off.
Edwyn Carlisle, Earl of Trethclyde, is a charismatic young man, always with a twinkle of laughter in this eyes, as if the world is a great jape only he can appreciate.
Generic Information
Name: Edwyn Trethclyde Gender: Male Age: 22 Height:6'1" Sexuality: Asexual
Psych Profile
Traits
Charming: Edwyn never breaks from his polite, courteous demeanor. He is quite skilled at reading others, and uses that to manipulate them.
Light-Hearted: Though he'd never be so crude as to directly insult someone, he has a constant carefree attitude, frequently mocking others without them even realizing it.
Clever: Edwyn is certainly quick of mind, and has extensive knowledge of philosophy and the sciences, though he has few political opinions of his own.
Flaws
Carefree: Even compared to other noblemen, he lacks any kind of motivation or drive. He does not seek money, power, or women- only entertainment.
Hubris: Edwyn Carlisle is the soul of arrogance, though he's careful never to show it. His confidence in his own capabilities is supreme, believing himself incapable of error.
Vampire Abilities:
Domination: As a vampire, he can bend the minds of others to his will, making them his slaves. This requires direct eye contact, however, and its duration depends on the subject. Most mortals can be dominated for weeks, if not months, without further manipulation, while supernatural beings can only be controlled in this manner for a few minutes. To use this power, he must also be in his vampire form, which naturally makes it impossible to use in public places.
Feeding: While he controls the minds of mundanes, he consumes their souls, slowly but surely. This is why the domination does not last forever; Eventually, the victim simply burns out, and is left comatose and of no further use. Though he does not need to feed to survive, it acts as a source of "food", so he does not need to eat the way others do while he has thralls who he can devour in this manner. This ability is also quite addictive, the life-force of others being quite a potent drug indeed.
Backstory: Twenty-two years ago, on a snowy February morning, Edwyn Carlisle was born, son of the puissant Earl of Trethclyde. His grandfather had been at the forefront of the early technology boom, and his father continued the rapid expansion of their business empire. The Carliles were among the wealthiest and most influential families there was in those days.
And then his father died.
Though in his will, he bequeathed his fortune to his seven-month-old child, his younger brother, Andrew Carlisle, was left in charge of the family's many business ventures. Unfortunately, Andrew proved to be a man with little financial acumen, and even less common sense. He invested the fortune foolishly, and wasted it away on an extravagant lifestyle he could increasingly not afford. By the time Edwyn came of age, there was little left of the family fortune.
Though he managed to save the family form disaster, making key pacts to ensure their survival, it was never enough, and so he was almost eager when called upon by Lord Nixus, hoping that an alliance with the man would end his family's troubles.
Family: Both his parents are dead. His uncle, Andrew Carlisle, has gone missing, though the man is a notorious scoundrel, so nobody is particularly concerned.
Character Motivation: All Edwyn wants in life is to be entertained. He does truly not care about right or wrong, but simnply does everything possible to stave off boredom. He sees his curse as a blessing, a promise of a great deal of excitement to come.
Mariah Amor: Edwyn has of course met the lady Amor on many social occasions. He never found her to be particularily interesting; She had a good head, but she wasted it so, and her saint-like goodness was intolerably dull for the Earl. He does find the manner with which she toys with men to be amusing, however.
Gwendolyn Argall: No particular opinion.
Goram Dorr: Dull. Boring. Uninteresting. These are three words that Edwyn would use to describe Goram. Though he has a great respect for the man's skill, particularly considering the importance of steam machinery to the Carlisle empire, he would not care to be trapped in conversation with the man.
Lizbeth D'Veaux: Lizbeth is the closest thing Edwyn has to a friend in this world. His utter disregard for sexuality lets her be comfortable around him, and he finds her paradoxial character amusing.
Linta Höhyener: The Earl of Trethclyde has always found Linta to be intolerably dull. She never said anything she did not mean, and she has the suitability of a rushing bull. When he is graced by her presence, Edwyn always finds an excuse to be somewhere else.
Kipling Baye: Edwyn's encounters with Kipling always bring him great delight. The man's complete inability to say the truth makes for a delightful game for the Earl, trying to decipher what's real, and what's not.
Tellion Velkfur: The Carlisles and the Velkfurs have had long-standing business ties, with the later being one of the few families who didn't abandon the Carlisle when their fortune was squandered. Edwyn thus is well aquainted with Tellion, who was on numerous occasions forced to meet with the young Earl of Trethclyde to maintain appearances. But despite their acquaintance, they barely know each other, with Tellion having been sulking and unwilling to make social connections beyond his scrolls, and Edwyn being bored by the young man's lack of interest in anything not written down.
Elia Louisa Reinhardt: Though he has never met her personally, Edwyn Carlisle knows the Lady Elia- or perhaps just Elia- quite well, his family having patronized her research for years. He respects her cleverness, though he would never wish to speak with her, god forbid.
Lizbeth is a rather short girl, standing at a mere 5'2" and weighing only a tad over 100lbs. Her hair is a dirty blonde with powder blue eyes.
Lizbeth, once transformed, becomes very lithe. Long, slender limbs and petite figure standing at 6'0" and weighing the same. Her hair becomes raven black and her eyes seem to be hollow and lifeless with a purple, glowing hue.
Generic Information
Name: Lizbeth D'Veaux. Gender: Female. Age: Twenty (20). Height: 5'2" Sexuality: Bisexual (Leaning more towards Homosexuality).
Psych Profile
Traits
Resourceful - Lizbeth is rather clever when it comes to resolving issues and finding solutions. Able to utilize unsuspecting objects to suit an unrelated goal.
Charismatic - Though this isn't something she always is but she knows how to turn it on when needed. Lizbeth is rather kept to herself and reserved on most occasions but when necessary she can be rather charming and persuasive.
Even Tempered - Lizbeth is rather well mannered and incredibly hard to upset.
Flaws
Afraid - Lizbeth lives in a constant fear of becoming overcome by her monstrous side. Though no one would really see that as it is well hidden.
Paranoid - Lizbeth is a bit prone to paranoia when it comes to people true intentions. It is rather difficult for Lizbeth to gain trust in someone.
Intimacy - Though intimacy makes a succubus stronger it always restricts Lizbeth's ability to focus as her fear overwhelms her of succumbing to her desires. Making intimacy a double edged sword for Lizbeth.
Holy Relics - Holy relics of any type cause serious damage to her body. Painful burns if only touched for a few moments.
Backstory: Unlike most people found under the thumb of Lord Nixus Lizbeth isn't royalty of any kind. Lizbeth was born and raised as a street urchin. Stealing to survive and learning to charm her way into getting the things she couldn't steal. This has even lead to more... intimate services for the more important things. A service she hated to provide but she had to survive somehow.
Upon hearing of the invitations being given out to a masquerade held by the famous Lord Nixus she knew if she found someone with an invite and follow them to the estate. Following her plan she found a target and followed them to the estate, seeing as the staff was busy with the guests she found a window in the back of the estate. Though what her luck was very unfortunate as it was the window into Lord Nixus' personal office. Where he sat alone by the fire place. A smirk on his lips wide enough to make her think he was expecting her.
That was the last time she was human. At least entirely human. Though often she barely feels human at all anymore. Lizbeth is now the incarnation of what she hates. Carnal desires and lust, the one thing she hated to do to survive is now the only thing she needs to do to survive.
Character Motivation: Her strongest desire is to find a cure and become a human again; to live without these painful desires.
Linta is well-built with wiry muscle, nothing pronounced. Her eyes are warm golden brown. Prefers practical military clothing, such as trousers, boots and jackets. Before her imprisonment, she wore a customary shortsword on her belt, more traditional than for use.
When transformed, she takes a similar shape to the pictured, though with large tail feathers as opposed to a long tail. Her hair retains its blonde colour, but recedes in length, and her feathers take on the colour and patterning of a barn owl. Feathers grow in her hair forming somewhat of a backward-swept crest, similar to pictured.
Adaptive: Linta is able to adapt to new situations easily. She can blend in with peasant crowds one moment and dazzle a ballroom in the next. She can be both graceful and assertive. If the situation calls for it, she can generally fill the role.
Combat Trained: Due to her upbringing, Linta has training in hand-to-hand combat, with and without weaponry.
Blunt: Linta doesn't like talking in riddles. She gets straight to the point, and asserts herself in conversation. That said, she's no stranger to coyness, though that's more for fun than anything else. When talking of anything with relative importance, she doesn't fool around.
Animal Lover: From horses to mice, Linta has an affinity for animals. Her favourites, however, are birds, specifically raptors and carrion birds.
Flaws
Cold Front: While she is not inherently unkind or unpleasant, some find her somewhat cold at first.
Ferocious: While true anger does not come too often (though annoyance is common) Linta's anger sets her out of her right mind; she's less tactful when angry, often letting it blind her to danger or those she's hurting.
Headstrong: Linta has the tendency to blindly react to emotion - she often rushes into things without quite thinking them through.
Poor Control: Linta has poor control over herself when transformed, and has a hard time resisting the urge to change. She will not denote this as weakness on her part and instead prefers to think that she has a particularly demanding monster. She's military, dammit.
Sensitivity: Linta has considerable sensitivity to bright light and loud sound. Brightness such as going outside on a sunny day is painful, and something akin to looking right at the sun would be temporarily blinding. What’s worse, this sensitivity seems to be getting more and more serious, and she can tolerate less and less light over time. Very loud sound, especially in closed quarters, causes loud ringing in her ears and considerable pain.
Claustrophobic: Just as the word would imply, Linta dislikes small enclosed spaces, becoming especially panicked if she has little or no room to move. Going a long while without seeing the sky drives her a little loony.
Handless: When transformed, her arms become wings and her fingers become part of the wing, thus rendering her hands unusable.
Harpy Abilities
Shriek: With her monster transformation came the ability to mimic bird calls, the most powerful of which is an ear-splitting shriek inherited from owls.
Talons: In her harpy form, her loss of hands is made up for by the gain of formidable razor-sharp talons on her feet. She has little need for any other weapon while she has these.
Senses: Her harpy transformation has given her augmented senses of hearing and sight, particularly at night.
Stealth: Her feathers are modelled after that of an owl’s, granting her with silent flight and near-silent movement.
Flight: She has wings. They work. She’s useful as a messenger and as a scout or spy.
Backstory: Linta is the oldest of two siblings, together making up the most recent tier of the considerably long Höhyener line. Her family has been in command of the nation’s armies for fifteen generations, and have spawned war heroes, aristocrats, and most sacredly, generals. Raised in a strict home, it was as if she were thoroughbred for the military. From the time she could walk she was taught to ride, fight, shoot a bow and take orders. Of all the fighting styles she learned, she preferred and excelled in archery above the rest.
To say her household was a strict one is a gross understatement. Her father was military, had been raised that way, and ran the house like a platoon of soldiers. Orders were given, and by God they were followed if the subject knew what was good for them. He ran a tight ship, having his children train until they could not stand, and pushing their noses into books the rest of the time. Lord Höhyener was not a patient man and did not tolerate mediocrity, and folded his two children into the shapes of perfect officers, no matter what they had to say about it.
When she was ten, she was taught to hunt with the aid of a falcon, and had a great affinity for the sport, and was well liked by the birds. It quickly became her favourite pastime, and eventually she trained a few of the birds herself, namely a hunting falcon, a messenger raven, and her personal favourite, a barn owl named Nyala. This bird, while being trained for nighttime hunting, became a companion for Linta as well. For a long while, Linta built herself a reputation for preferring the company of her horse or her birds than people. With the harsh regiment that awaited her in her home, it wasn’t hard to see why.
Becoming the perfect lady was never much of a priority (of course, she was taught good court manners for negotiations in the future) and marrying her off was far from her father’s goal. No, he shaped her to hunger for power, for authority, to lead men into battle as opposed to treating their wounds when they returned. Hell, by the time she was twenty she was commanding the cavalry in her father’s army, training the archers, and making important decisions in the strategy room, her brother by her side commanding the infantry and overseeing foreign affairs.
She was quick to earn the respect of her men and her title of Commander, both by proving any man who doubted her sorely mistaken and skillfully networking outside of battle. She never followed men into the (admittedly few, as the country was experiencing relative peace) battles she fought, instead leading them in the vanguard. In was during one of these battles that her horse was killed by an opposing infantryman (whom she promptly did away with) and the lower part of her right leg cleaved off with it. Though the loss was discouraging for a time, it never slowed her, though the prosthetic she wore was hardly a fitting replacement. So she walked with a relative limp, it meant nothing to her. The pain and strain on her body was trivial compared to the suffering she’d borne witness to in battle.
It was that battle which saw the death of her younger brother, Nähir. She's been coldly distant about the incident since.
When the invitation came for Nixus’ ball, she was proud to represent her family at the most prestigious event of the year. Dressed to impress, she arrived in an elaborate white, gold and silver gown, wearing a breathtaking feathered mask in the likeness of Nyala. Dresses were never much of a fashion in her family, but when she did wear them she was stunning, even despite her limp. She spent most of the night discussing military strategy and funding with some of the more influential guests, somewhat miffed that Nixus himself never made an appearance. About halfway through the evening, a servant girl came to her, claiming that Lord Nixus himself wanted an audience. Of course, she followed, hoping the could speak to him about funding for the military and the like. The increasingly disturbing air of the place did little to frighten her, though it did raise her guard. She was armed, just a dagger in one of the many folds of her skirts, but felt no need to draw.
By the time the doors locked behind her, she wished she had drawn.
Now she faces humiliation, stress, and a terrifying growing urge to let the beast take over.
Character Motivation: Linta seeks to destroy Nixus for making her a slave to him, as subserviency infuriates her. At the same time, she finds it difficult to disobey his orders, giving way to a lot of static loathing and anger.
Opinion Of Others: None so far.
Other: Linta has felt the intoxication of power that the transformation brings, and has begun to become addicted to it. Even in her natural form, parts of her monster form remain. These are namely feathers still sprouting from her hair and eyes that look a little more bird than human. What’s more, she’s developed a disturbing appreciation for her monster form, taking some twisted pride in her new ability to fly and take on the feathers of the birds she loves so much. (This will come out later in the RP, but not quite yet)
Does not carry knives, instead carries elaborately decorated coin pouches. For show mostly.
A single fairy is an irritation, three fairies are a nuisance, fifteen fairies are an infestation, thirty are a plague, and one-hundred are a Biblical apocalypse. These tiny six inch bastards will gnaw their way through almost anything for a fleshy meal and eat like winged piranhas as a chaotic swarm of happy smiles.
Straightforward - He isn’t one to dance around feelings or fluff-up bad news because time is money.
Organized - Neat and tidy. For Kipling, a perfect world fits together like a puzzle even if some pieces need to be smashed into place.
Confident - He is proud and stands tall, knowing most people can be bought for a price or with a threat.
Monster:Quick as horseflies.
Monster:Relentless like a bad itch.
Monster:Small enough to miss.
Flaws
Pathological liar - Who needs the ugly truth when a lie is always pretty?
Temperamental - As the only male offspring, Kipling was allowed to grow-up with a high sense of self importance and entitlement. To doubt him or his right to highborn privileges could mean becoming an early dinner.
Gluttonous - Keeping a monstrous appetite at bay is a constant feeding frenzy and necessary to keep one’s mouth busy from wanting the flesh of friends and companions.
Monster:Highly flammable.
Monster:Highly distractible.
Monster:Highly squashable.
Backstory: As a merchant’s only bastard boy whose father found success in cheaply-made spare parts, only to piss most of the fortune away in booze, women, and countless other bad investments-- the son was obligated to take over the family business for better or for worse. Despite having his whore mother’s delicate features and looks, Kipling was a fierce supervisor from the start who fired men over a single moment of tardiness and belittled others into obedience. His iron fist helped rebuild and regain the Baye name to its former glory; however, if merely in appearances and not entirely by money.
A comfortable life style was never enough and would never be enough regardless of the heads one needed to step upon to cross the muk. Honest work never brought the coin in fast enough and competitors stole good business, which lead one thing to another, and young Baye quickly found himself dealing in mud and blood to secure what he needed under the guise of merchant. It was enough to build a dirty reputation, but a respected reputation nonetheless and not too soon was the new Master Baye surrounded in posh upper company. The only surprise for when his own exclusive invitation to one of Lord Nixus’ prestigious masquerades arrived was that the blasted letter hadn’t been delivered sooner.
With every intention of being noticed, Kipling spared no expense to have himself peacocked for the event and planned to exhaust any meanings at his disposal to catch the Lord’s eye. He needed a powerful partner in his pocket to increase and dominate his hand in the market, but possibly for bed as well, with fantasized ideas of never having to work another day in his life.
After a blatant tantrum upon discovering the party’s host would not be present, the flustered young master was interrupted from leaving and pleasantly shocked to be summoned for a meeting. Alone. With his lordship. It all seemed like a dream. It started as a dream and ended as a nightmare. There was little he could do when the dark man turned on him--leaving with more than a brand on his lower back and broken ego.
Kipling has accepted his role as loyal servant by means of survival and the benefits that have come with his new abilities as a half creature. He is careful not to reveal himself to the lowly humans; although, he relishes in being in the talk of monster rumors and the fear it has earned him amongst his enemies. For now, he is able to combat his hunger and contain the restless frenzy inside him, but for how long is unclean and some nights are starting to become blank.
Character Motivation: To no longer be known as the town drunk’s bastard heir and he’s not afraid of becoming a monster to do so.
Opinion Of Others:
Adelia Sophia Marsden: "She's the messiest person alive. Everywhere she goes--there's a puddle of water! 'Oh, look. Is that a water stain on the couch? Adelia must've been here.' ECK!"
Edwyn Trethclyde: “I heard he killed his own father and then tried to kill his brother, too. People like that shouldn’t be allowed to walk free just because they have the money to keep the authorities quiet.”
Elia Louisa Reinhardt: “You haven’t heard? She’s actually a man. Anyone can build the right parts with the right pieces especially a mechanical genius. Hmph, disgusting.”
Goram Dorr: “Goram? He reminds me of a bear. The cute kind that sit in forests and eat leaves all day or wear tiny hats.”
Gwendolyn Argall: “What a sad story... Don’t even get me started. That poor girl is so incredibly contagious. Oh! But, you didn’t hear that from me.”
Linta Höhyener: “Ooh, so impressive. If my daddy was a general, maybe I’d be a commander, too. Some people have to work for their promotions, you know.”
Lizbeth D'Veaux: “Once she bit the tongue off a customer and still made him pay her for services. I know the man’s sister, she told me everything. He has to eat out of a straw now.”
Mariah Amor: “Her? She’s sleeping with all her brothers. She isn’t dumb, she’s just had all the brains ****ed out of her.”
Tellion Velkfur: “Who? Never heard of him. How should I know the name of every brat in the countryside?”
Other: As a side effect of his darker side, Kipling is prone to biting and often will not hesitate to take a nip. Whether or not he breaks the skin is entirely up to his stomach.
Gentle - A man of gentle heart, Goram always shows does his best to show compassion to those around him, whether they are deserving of it or not.
Cool Headed - Goram has always been a calm man, unable to be provoked easily. When he does become angry, however...
Patient - Tying in with his inability to be angered, Goram is one of the most patient individuals in existence.
Treant Strength - Even when not in his monster form, Goram is incredibly sturdy and strong, capable of lifting and breaking apart large objects with ease.
Monster Traits
Colossal - When in treant form, Goram is a towering hulk of a monster. Though he moves around on all four of his trunk-sized legs, he still reaches up to 8 feet tall.
Deafening Roar - Should he be angered or provoked, he will emit a roar so powerful that often it can create gale force winds, throwing away anyone who would try to harm him.
Vine Whip - Should his roar not be enough to scare away his enemies, and should his strength be useless in his situation, he has slight control over the vines and branches growing from his back.
Flaws
Slow - Though nobody would question his intelligence, Goram can sometimes take longer to come to certain conclusions than others.
Unable to Identify Danger - Due to his gentle nature, Goram will rarely see a situation as dire or inherently dangerous towards himself and/or others.
Afraid of Machines - Living near machines his entire childhood, Goram developed an inherent fear of machinery and it's workings.
Monster Flaws
Low Speed - He may be big, but his incredible size causes him to be incredibly slow when travelling or when reacting to outside stimuli. He may be able to pulverise you into a pancake, but he'll take a few minutes to do so.
Peaceful Creature - Unless commanded to do so, the treant will rarely attack unless severely provoked. Whether this is the monster, or Goram affecting his treant form, is unclear.
Burn Baby, Burn - In his treant form, Goram is incredibly weak to fire and any flame-based weapons, owing to the fact that he is a tree. Wood does burn, after all.
Backstory: Son of the Master Blacksmith, Hoska Dorr, who worked as the metal worker for many of the wealthy and established noble class, Goram was born into the life of metal working and the building of machine components. As a young boy Goram was always more fascinated with the outside world, yearning to explore and adventure the land beyond his father's workshop. His father accepted his son's whimsical dreams, until it became clear that Goram was inheriting his father's "smithy" build, namely the tall height and expansive muscular torso. Goram was forced to work the forge, as his father did, helping to build the very machines he could not stand.
A sudden and unexplained accident within the workshop caused the death of Hoska, and so his workshop and prestigious title were passed on to Goram, his freedom slipping further out of reach. Trapped within the noble world of machine-working, he barely scraped by with what little he could do, his dreams haunted by the echoing sound of metal on metal, and machines whirring to life.
A sudden glimmer of hope appeared when an invitation arrived from Lord Nixus to his prestigious party, and so Goram's freedom was suddenly reeled back in to the realm of possibility. If he played his cards right, and earned himself a meeting with the Lord, he could strike a business deal to hand over his title and workshop. With the money he earned, he would be able to explore and be free of his father's legacy. But, alas, all did not go to plan; the meeting came, but the business deal did not. Instead of money and freedom, Goram earned a brand, and an even worse imprisonment.
Character Motivation: Escape and freedom. All his life Goram wished to be rid of his imprisoned lifestyle, working to build the very things he loathed. Now that he is ensnared and enslaved by Lord Nixus, his motivations are only stronger, dreaming only of becoming a human again and ridding his mind of the Lord's magical snare.
Mariah Amor: Goram always envied miss Amor whenever he saw her passing by; what he wouldn't give to be free of work for even a day. Besides that, he has never really gotten up the nerve to talk to her, but Goram knows her as kind, having been told so by those who do.
Gwendolyn Argall: WIP
Edwyn Carlisle: As one of the leading business empires in the first days of machine implementation, Goram has worked many a job for the Carlisle family. When Edwyn took over the family business, this meant Goram had many occasions to develop an opinion. Though he admires the man for saving his family from bankruptcy, Goram always preferred the older Carlisle, Edwyn's uncle, Andrew; after all, Goram always seemed to bore Edwyn whenever he visited the workshop.
Lizbeth D'Veaux: Goram had met Lizbeth on several occasions. Their first encounter was when she broke into his father's workshop and attempted to steal a few tools. Goram accidentally stumbled upon her while working the forge, and quietly helped her exit the workshop without notice. Since then, Goram has met her a few more times, always letting her take things, or on some occasions giving her things that she wanted or needed. Though he isn't fond of her lifestyle, he still hopes to help her along, knowing how it feels to be trapped by one's fortune, whether good or bad.
Linta Hohyener: WIP
Kipling Baye: Goram had heard the rumours of this Kipling Baye, but then, he never put any stock in rumours. Goram recalled Kipling's father as being the workshop's supplier of spare parts, for the tools and equipment that were used and broken day-to-day. This continued after Kipling took over the business, though Goram rarely saw the man himself, hearing only words of his iron fist and tough regime over his workers.
Telion Velkfur: The Velkfurs, Goram recalls, were the ones infamous for the book burnings that the nobility and common folk so eagerly gossiped about. He never really was a reader himself, so his concern wasn't for the books themselves, but the boy that had to watch all his things go up in smoke. Goram is reminded of it every time someone walks in and talks about the smoke stack above his workshop being "almost as big as the Smiler!"
Elia Reinhardt: Goram only knew Elia as the daughter of one of his father's work friends, a close one at that. That would have been the extent of his knowledge of her, had his father not invited them over to organise a business deal. He had been working the forge when they dropped by, and he was surprised when Elia came to look upon his work. Goram summed up the gentlest smile he could, before returning to hammering away.
It was only after they had left that his father spoke to him, revealing his intentions of marriage to seal the business deal. Goram was surprised at first, though he was unsure of how he actually felt about the situation. Unfortunately, his father had died a few weeks later, the deal (and marriage) slipping away with him.
Adelia Sophia Marsden: Goram went to see one of Adelia's performances, on a whim, and was surprised and in awe of the beauty of her singing. She had managed to give Goram a taste of what freedom would be like, allowing him to escape the tiny world that his workshop kept him trapped in. He told himself if he ever got the chance to meet her in person, he would thank her many times over.
Knowledgeable - While the other nobles are busy polishing up their graces and their manners, Telion escapes to books and scrolls from the Velkfur family's grand library and as a result, amass knowledge of the world that most others wouldn't even have known. Witty - Telion more often than not, was ridiculed from other noble families for not being the sort of noble that was expected of him, he could however, easily retort back their insults and sayings with relative ease. He could also turn a normal conversation into a delightful one, with most people at least. Nimble - Reading books and scrolls all day tends to make one's body not in the best of shape. However Telion is blessed with hight metabolism and is always skinny (not to the point of seeing his bones jut out) no matter how much he eats, and has him in a body which is fast and reactive.
Flaws
Spacing Out - Not always the one to be focused in most things, if Telion thinks the situation as hand is boring,he could often or not, just let his mind wander out.
Hurt - Alk has fully believed that Telion had ran away form the Grand Masquerade event and has now cut him away from the family tree, while Telion had never really cared much for his family name, he's deeply sad that his father cut him off without a slight hesitation. He gets depressed whenever he hears a slight mention of the Velkfur family now.
Centaur Powers Telekinesis: Transforming to his centaur form grants Telion the ability to life any object, living or non-living about 10 metres from the ground at a speed of 10km/per hour. Swift: Long legs can make a man run faster and a Telion's centaur is beyond a man now. Nightmare presence: Not really a traditional centaur, somewhere along the long Telion's centaur form gone hugely misformed and has now resemble something from a devil's nightmare, giving everyone who stares at him for too long the shivers. Flame hooves: Like the sound that Death makes before his victim meets his embrace, Telion's hooves have the ability to leave a trail of fire behind for a short while before distinguishing themselves. Without being activated they leave a trail of hoof marks burned into the ground.
Centaur Weaknesses Blinded by Light: Light dosen't sit well with Telion's centaur. Large amounts of light can temporarily make him as blind as a bat. Weak: Can't take a lot of hits, a few stabs and slashes will be enough to take him down. Recharge: Using his abilities too much at once will make him tire out and have to rest before fighting again.
Backstory:You couldn't mingle with the nobles without even once, mentioning the famed Velkfur House. Known for their immense wealth and having their enemies mysteriously move to another country when they cross their way , the other nobles either respect or fear the house of Velkfur. The family house members of Velkfur gained their immense wealth through manufacturing the expensive and intricate clothing which are known to be worn by almost,if not all, the nobles and are known to be the single best tailor house in the century.
Telion was born to the world with an expectation from the only child of Sir Alk Velkfur and his wife, Jennifer Velkfur. He was to be the heir of the every growing business of the Velkfur clothing but he was never really interested in inheriting the family's business. He instead wanted to find his calling through books and scrolls and while his family had no problem in his reading habits, his stubbornness to not accept the family's business was. This led to a constant quarrelling session everyday and his father resorted to dragging Telion to the town square and forced him to watch as their servants burn every single book and scroll in their library.Unbeknownst however, that Telion has already stored several volumes that he hasn't read yet in the safety of the garden of the mansion. The incident was famous throughout the country amongst the nobles and commons however and they famously call it " The Smiling Smokes" due to the smoke of the burning of the ancient books slightly resembled a smiling skull that day.
He never really trusted his father after that incident and spent his days forced by his father to be tutored in business. In the evenings, he sneaks to the garden to have a quick read but never really have substantial time to finish a book. The Grand Masquerade however, was announced to all the nobles, including of course House Velkfur. Alk Velkfur forced Telion into going to the event with him and Telion was never interested in the going ons and balls held by nobles. When the young woman approached him however, he never knew his life could change so drastically in one night.
Character's Motivation: At last, Tellion wishes to now to be free, he no longer has to be binded by the chains of his family name and wished to roam the world. Now however under Nixus's control, he plans to escape Nixus, either by talking him out of it....or killing him.
"You will find, my girl, that the greatest minds are oftentimes the most fragile. Such a shame it is that knowledge is the most destructive force in the world."
Note that her appearance does not actually change when she changes forms except for her eyes turning to a blood red. After this, her form can dissolve down into shadows at will and her physical state can be altered in shadow-form (I.e. the above picture is just an example appearance).
Generic Information
Name: Elia Louisa Reinhardt Gender: Female Age: 20 Height: 5'3 Sexuality: Elia is about as sexually adept as a nun so even she doesn't know which way she swings.
Psych Profile
Traits
Incredibly Intelligent - Elia was not raised amongst a fluttering bunch of ladies-in-waiting nor was she raised on the streets. She was raised in a workshop of an inventor who was deemed mad by some and genius by others. She was his blood and growing up in such an environment made her into one of the greatest minds in the country.
Industrious - When she started, she had naught but her mind, a dilapidated workshop and the wisdom left behind by her father. From this, she forged an empire of machinery and a name for herself. Although she's quite rich, she never forgot where she came from and can make stunning creations from just a few simple parts.
Kind-Hearted - Elia can sometimes be a tad cynical or a little disapproving of someone's intelligence but behind all that coldness is a warm heart that simply wants to better the world she inhabits. Not once has she made a weapon using her intelligence nor does she ever plan to - a move which caused tension with one particular noble family.
Strong-Willed - It takes a lot of guts to ignore the status quo and follow your own path. By all regards she should have been wedded and bedded by this point but she seems happy creating her empire rather than creating little... things.
Monster Traits
Shadow Form - When Elia is in shadow form, she is capable of dissolving into a being made purely from darkness. Being something made out of a lack of light, it is almost impossible to see her if she sticks to the shadows. Her form can be manipulated easily so she can look like a beast of a man or a well-curved woman.
Endless Torment - She can't physically interact with someone when in shadow form but in a world that doesn't believe in the old magic, the sheer sight of a figure made purely from shadows is enough to terrify anyone. If she really wanted to, she could paralyse them with fear or even kill them.
Sleepless Whispers - This is Elia's primary use: intelligence gathering. The myths of shadow people originated from those who woke to find themselves paralyzed with a being made of darkness straddling them. Once Elia does this, her target becomes very willing to give over any information she asks for.
Flaws
Stubborn - Despite her intelligence, Elia is as stubborn as a mule. Once she sets her mind to something, she will follow through with it even if it leaves her completely drained or wishing she hadn't listened to herself. She would have got far with her father's teachings and her own intelligence but not far enough. The only reason she's as successful as she is now is due to those who doubted her or dismissed her.
Socially Inept - She's spent her life surrounded by clockwork mechanisms and steam machines so naturally, when it comes to things that actually have a pulse, she doesn't do awfully well. The core problem is that Elia would rather be back in her workshop instead of socialising and thus, she has gotten into a lull of not needing human contact.
Know-It-All - Unfortunately for Elia, she has to spend a lot of her time around rich nobles to attract business. The unfortunate thing about this is that most nobles are self-righteous idiots who think they're very well versed when it comes to knowledge. When she proves that they indeed know very little, it does not make her many friends.
Self-Hatred - It is a painful existence to know that you can change so much in the world but you can never change what it is that hurts you the most. If she could, she would go back in time and change so much but the fact is, she cannot and that mere fact is what she hates most about herself. Sometimes she even thinks that she would prefer to be stupid and not have to research these things that hurt her only to discover that they're way above her.
Monster Flaws
Volatility to Light - Since she has been changed, it is nearly impossible for her to step outside during the middle of the day. She's capable of standing in the light of the dawn and dusk but midday would burn her very skin and more than likely leave her blind. She much prefers the darkness so recently, she has adapted an unhealthy paleness to her complexion.
Lack of Interaction - Elia is physically incapable of interacting with the world in her shadow form meaning that she is almost completely useless during a battle.
Religious Objects - Objects that have a religious connotation to them usually prove to be particularly dangerous to Elia. Them objects alone are the only things capable of interacting with her during her shadow form and thus, they can prove to be extremely painful and bring on a sensation of burning.
Backstory: Elia Louisa Reinhardt was born on a cold December morning to two parents who were considered the greatest minds of their time. Her birth seemed too much for her mother who later died due to loss of blood. Her first victim and she had barely even opened her eyes for the first time.
Her early life was eventful, at best. The lack of a solid mother figure and a father who understood machines better than he understood little girls led to her regularly ditching lessons in school to instead run amuck (or more regularly, go to her father's workshop). The mere fact that she learned more by herself and in the workshop didn't say a lot for the public schooling system but once her father realised that, he consented to having her leave school if she learned under him.
From a very young age it was painfully obvious that Elia was not going to be a little lady or a lady of any sorts for that matter. More times than most, any dresses she was forced into were abandoned for shorts and trousers. When her father queried her on it, she answered that she was never going to be able to work in a dress so she was never going to need a dress. Her father couldn't find a flaw in her argument and fearing she would rebel anyways if he enforced it, he allowed her to abandon her finery. Being a naturally curious little thing, she spent more time in her father's workshop than he did and eventually, the knack of inventing was simply instilled within her.
Her early teenage years were enjoyable ones. Although her father was aging and regularly falling into poor health, she was a sprightly young thing that did the work for him and ultimately learned under his careful eye. If it wasn't already obvious that she was following in his footsteps, it became painfully so when she became a major designer on the royal airship he was commissioned to make. Her designs brought a new inspiration to the entire process which made her father a decent name for himself.
As she grew into a young woman and attracted the attention of suitors (which she fervently declined), her father's health worsened. Eventually, a few days after her seventeenth birthday, he passed away in his sleep. It was a painless death but Elia was left distraught. He was the only solid figure in her life and he was ripped away from her. She had no one but machines after that and it was the machines that she turned to. She fell away from society so much so that many suspected her to be dead. More times than enough, she went without sleep in her research. The subject of her research? Time. If time could be reversed, things could change. The world could change. She could break the curse of death. She just needed more time.
She never found her time and eventually, she gave up on her quest, which was quickly destroying her. Instead, she turned her genius to the world of machinery and science. Within a year, she fashioned a business out of her inventions. Within two, she became one of the richest females in the country as other countries invested in her transportation devices.
It came as no surprise that she was invited to the Lord Nixus' Masquerade - she had been invited most social events recently. Unlike the most of them which she turned down, Elia decided that this party could only help her work so she elected to attend it. Although she had no intention to meet Lord Nixon himself, it wasn't surprising that she caught his eye considering she was the only female in the room not wearing a dress. It was curiosity that drove her to follow the maid and despite the disturbing pictures along the way, she very willingly stepped into Lord Nixus' private quarters. After that? Well, we all know what curiosity does to cats.
Character Motivation: Elia hates what Nixus has done to her and she hates her shadow form but more often than not, she has found herself willingly slipping into the form. It allows her to see so much more than she can normally and more importantly, it allows her to acquire knowledge. Knowledge is all she ever wants.
Opinion Of Others: Excerpts from the Diaries of Elia Louisa Reinhardt
Mariah Amor:
"I will say it now so that these words of mine are not repeated en masse. There's nothing more destructive to the reputation of women as a whole than people like Mariah Amor. I do not deem myself to be the greatest judge of characters but from the few times I have met this lady, it has become painfully obvious that she covers her intelligence with a thick layer of stupidity. The most sickening aspect of this? It works. She has men following her around like little lost puppies that someone should have really drowned in a river at birth. Such a pity, it is, that behaviour like that displayed by Miss Amor will be noted and unduly repeated by the younger generations. I do hope, for the sake of our species, that the fruit of her womb are imbued with a little more sense knocked into their skulls.
Oh and did I mention she was a brat?"
Gwendolyn Argall:
"Another dinner party. These events have been increasing in number ever since I released my designs on the new airborne gondola. It seems that these blubbering fools expect some sort of discount if they harass me with gentle smiles for a night almost like I'm a child chasing a fanciful dream. If they could see half the thoughts in my head, they would count themselves enlightened for a lifetime.
One must mention, however, that the reception I received at the Argall manor house was a breath of fresh air. Instead of pompous nobles, I was surrounded by those who were well-read; poets and the like. Much could be said of the host, a Miss Gwendolyn Argall, who entertained an entire crowd (myself included) with lacklustre tales of the old kingdoms and fallen empires. However, most notably, she seemed almost entranced to listen to the others and their fine stories. A woman of knowledge. If only there were more."
Edwyn Carlisle:
"How do they do it on a daily basis? A dear friend of mine, a one Mr Hubris, was invited to a dinner party of late and, lacking a partner to accompany him, he did extend the invitation to myself. I feared wounding his pride so I hesitantly accepted. Hindsight is a cruel jape, it would seem. Dear Mr Hubris became burdened with the destroyer of good men; alcohol, and was forced to retire much earlier than expected. I was engaged in conversation already so in his good nature, he left me undisturbed.
It would seem that the young patron of House Carlisle shared his friendship with the better-looking majority of young noblemen because, due to my outwardly abnormal look, I instantly became the centre of their humorous attentions. One would have preferred to remain very far from the centre. Needless to say, young Carlisle himself tried his hand at taming me with his soft words and that smug smile. I could have broke him in two. and put him back together just so that fine Godsend could ravage me. I quickly departed the manor and I've gained the understanding that these sort of events are just not for me. No, I am quite safe buried deep amongst machinery but God is it difficult to ignore the fire rumbling in my belly. This is why I despise biology."
Lizbeth Dveaux:This source, although not mentioning her name, is believed to contain a reference to Lizbeth Dveaux
"It was upon this cold, January evening that I've had a brush with the darker side of our world. It is commonly known that the underworld of the major cities is awash with brothels and prostitutes selling their... wares on the corner of streets but in my childlike innocence, I did not expect to find one upon the arm of some loud, plump nobleman at an unveiling of my latest designs. I was furious, to say the least; not because he dared to take her into an event of my organising but that he seemed to believe that she was his property for the evening and thus proceeded to show her off like a well-crafted portrait.
Gods be praised, it took everything inside of me not to find some way to bash his sorry skull in - the poor thing, prettier than most other girls I've seen, looked like she had resigned herself to deep self-loathing. If only I could share my dreams with those who are stuck at the bottom of the barrel. If only I could ignite hope back into their hearts. Rebellion is on their lips, I can see it, but I must refuse to act. I question my intentions everyday."
Linta Hohyener:
"I have made many friends thus far but it's becoming painfully clear to me that for every friend I make and every ally that binds their aid to my cause, there are those who stare on with dark intents. Those who curse my name and believe that I do not belong at the level I have rose to. I imagine if I was a male, these self-righteous bastards would be content but nevertheless, they have made me their enemy and some are beginning to outwardly expose this.
The most noteworthy of these enemies would have to be Lord Hohyener, the High General of our nation's military. He is one of the few bloodthirsty individuals who believe that the machines of war must closely mirror every leap of progress. It began as fine praise from him for my work for the Royal Family. This was followed by gentle hints and promises of funding if I was to focus my intelligence on military technology. That alone offended me - did he dare think that my good father raised me to power the gears of war!? I forgave his insolence that once and politely declined his offer. He's a powerful man and it would be foolish of me to publicly declare my opposition to him.
My thoughts on the matter did not halt him and much like a dog baying for blood, he continued on with his unholy crusade of attempting to enlist me into the ranks of brilliant minds that had already betrayed progress. When I refused again, his persuasions turned violent and I understand that he commanded his daughter to beg the king to have me arrested.
The bitch apparently made a good case of it and if it were not for my friends close to the Royal Family, I imagine I would be rotting in prison by now. I would prefer to rot than to have my genius used so as he may further his war-effort.
Nevertheless, the first question that crossed my mind was who in God's name allowed that bastard Hohyener to breed? The next that crossed my mind was which sane-minded woman with any self-integrity allowed that dog anywhere near her nether regions. I imagine he'll send men after me but I pay no heed to such shallow threats. Science has succeeded today."
Kipling Baye:
"Was it foolish of me to expect much of the world when I started this blooming business of mine? Back then, sheer determination clouded by thoughts and in my innocence, I believed that the world was somewhat ready to accept the fruits of my mind. I am beginning to question those thoughts, however.
Unfortunately, being the head of mine own industry, I'm responsible for almost all of the sourcing of parts. It was, in this particular venture, that I did butt heads with the Baye family business. I was under the impression that my business would ignite great potential in their enterprise and that they would respect this fact but I was painfully proved wrong. Kipling Baye himself is a vicious man with very little care of his workers. Granted, I am not known for my social expertise but I at least keep company with decent standards. This would have just been a simple irk in our relationship would it not have been for the fact that Kipling was a bastard who thought little of me. I urged my pride to stay at bay but it kindly refused which resulted in our business dealings falling apart.
After that? Threats. A lot of threats and even some action but I refused to let him hold sway over my dealings. I imagine our next meeting will be sour. I have every intention to let the cunt know his place."
Goram Dorr:
"I have decided that today is a fine day, or it appears to be so. Father seems elated and I cannot help but mirror his feelings of happiness. What is he happy over? If I knew it would already be upon this paper but alas, I've been left in the dark by his excitement."
"My day has indeed proven to be eventful and father has somehow stayed excited throughout most of the entire process. 'Always reflect on what you have learned that day, Elia, and be thankful for it' he told me so I thought it best to mark my train of thought here. What I do know is that father and an old friend of his have secured a partnership in their business. We paid a visit to the man (whom father spoke very highly of) and I was left to inspect his tidings. Unsurprisingly, he was a productive man, or a blacksmith to sum it up. His smithy was expansive and even I was impressed - if it made father happy than I was also consequently happy. I found a giant there, hulking over the forge. He must have been five years my senior but he gifted me a gentle smile before returning to his work. That smile stayed with me as I left and although I am hesitant to admit such a thing, the pure strength exposed by him stirred darker thoughts."
"It does seem that father's business deal has gone through accordingly but something has seemed to trouble him today. I was working on the airship with him and he backed away from the project almost within the first hour - his mind was clearly elsewhere. As we later ate, he did what I was patiently waiting for and told me what was burdening him. 'My friend wishes to seal our business dealings with a marriage.' He told me, leaving me more than confused. Almost a minute later, he elaborated, 'He extended his desires to have his only son wedded to you.' I was shocked, to say the least, as this was the first time father spoke of such things. Nevertheless, images of the young blacksmith did leave me a tad confused of my feelings on the matter. Father didn't ask what I wanted though, he knew - he never mentioned it again."
Telion Velkfur
"Rumours have spread to me about a book-burning that occurred in a few towns over. Naturally, such tales angered me - how dare the insolent fools burn such great bastions of knowledge!? Such ancient books were prized by all those who even mildly held themselves as intelligent. I dug a little deeper into the stories to discover some of the past behind it and what drove such a notable family into such a heinous crime against humanity.
The story only proved to annoy me further but it left me lusting to learn further upon the young man who was the victim of this mindless slaughter of knowledge. Yet, whispers were also voiced of his defiance and how he had secretly hidden away several ancient tomes so that he could learn more, even if knowledge was outlawed. I've found small hope in his tale but it is a want of mine to discover more about the young Velkfur patron - he who prizes knowledge to such a degree is well-worth knowing, after all. Perhaps I can arrange a meeting with a shallow offer of marriage?"
Since being cursed Adelia has grown fond of showing more skin and reflecting the sea in her attire. However, it should be noted that she displays a more appropriate level of modesty during formal occasions.
Generic Information
Name: Adelia Sophia Marsden Gender: female Age: 22 Height: 5’4” Sexuality: Bisexual, though she is inclined towards men since they are easier to wrap around her finger.
Psych Profile
Traits
Silver Tongue - Adelia has a way with words and using them to get what she wants, whether it be through her soothing speech or near angelic vocals.
Perceptive - Adelia has a keen awareness, especially in the social realm. She is well versed in separating truth from gossip and picking up on others underlying feelings and motivations.
Heart of Stone - It is tough to get an emotional rise or fall out of Adelia. She is ultimately looking out for herself and everyone else is simply pieces with the potential to benefit or hinder her. As an ally becomes a hindrance she can mentally sever their ties with indifference, and if a foe and her goals begin to align she is quick to consider enlisting their aid.
Flaws
Attention Seeker - Adelia enjoys being the center of attention too much for her own good. Her apathy towards others make the terms good attention and bad attention null. Attention is attention and she craves it all the same.
Deceiver - It can be tough for Adelia to keep track of the tangled web of lies she spins for her benefit. Particularly when she tells multiple people different things within the same setting. If it seems like the cats going to get out of the bag she will first try to vacate the scene, then to come up with plausible deniability.
Selective Education - Outside the realm of humanities and social sciences Adelia is rather uniformed. Everything but the most basic natural and formal sciences will go right over her head.
Monster Traits
Siren Song - Adelia has a voice to die for. Mortals, especially men are irresistibly drawn towards her. The trance they are put under is so strong that her fishy appearance is overlooked entirely. She might as well be the most beautiful woman ever to have existed inviting them to take a final dip beneath the waves. Against fellow monsters, and others resistant to her call, she might opt to instead unleash a powerful sonic scream. At it’s strongest it can deafen mortal ears, shatter brittle substances, or even briefly part water.
Mer-Creature Abilities - In monster form Adelia grows gills, scales, fins, and a tail. These additions alone are enough to make her unparalleled in the water. However, the razor sharp fangs and claws she sports are reminders that she’s no little mermaid. Furthermore at her disposal is degree of water manipulation that allows her to create crashing waves, small whirlpools, and so on while she is in direct contact with water. She is also capable of selectively transforming individual parts of her body at will.
Shark-like Senses - While transformed Adelia gains new and enhanced senses with which to experience the world and track her prey. Foremost she has a keen sense of smell cable of detecting traces as scarce as one part per million. Adelia's eyesight largely remains the same, with the exception of her being able to see clearly in low light and through liquids. In regards to hearing, she becomes sensitive to low frequency sounds and is able to pinpoint their relative origin with ease. Next she is able to pick up on the electrical impulses produced by muscle contractions of living creatures. Finally, Adelia is able to feel differentials in water pressure, including vibrations.
Monster Flaws
Fish out of Water - This should be rather self explanatory. Adelia’s monster form is quite simply unsuited for the land. Most of her abilities are severely hindered, or unusable entirely while she resides away from water.
Dehydration - Adelia needs to submerse herself in water on a regular basis in order to maintain her health and beauty. Should she fail to do so she will feel ill, and her skin will begin to dry and crack. From there her condition continues to deteriorate, ultimately resulting in death. High temperatures, and exposure to elements of heat will accelerate this process.
Predatory Nature - When Adelia fully transforms there is usually one thing on her mind, dinner. To make things worse while her range of hearing is increased, the clarity of the sounds she receives is reduced making it more difficult to communicate with her audibly. If she hasn’t fed recently the scent of blood will drive her into shark-like frenzy.
Backstory: Adelia was born an only child with her father, Lord Marsden, the head of a prosperous trading company. Her mother left while she was very young for various reason and she scarcely even remembers her. In a way she might have been lucky, for instead of being left at home under the care of servants like many children of her status she was taken abroad via ship as soon as she was age enough. This way she got a crash course in culture, art and an exposure to the adult world. Her father taught her that the only thing in this world she should rely are blood ties, and that nobody else but family was truly looking out for her best interests.
While abroad Adelia fell in love with the theater and in response her father purchased one so that she may practice and get guaranteed starring roles. As it would turn out she had natural singing talent and soon opted to become a performer. As much as Lord Marsden hoped she would take up the family business, he found her passion equally worthy. He just hopes that she will attract a man of caliber and produce a son or two who could carry the torch.
Over time her fame and prosperity got to her head and she began to make side ventures in her families name. When she finally received an invitation to Lord Nixus’s masquerade she considered it only natural and her biggest opportunity yet. As such cancelled all her prior engagements and let all her ‘friends’ and acquaintances know that she was selected.
When she first arrived at the château she was under the impression that the masquerade was a sham. Aside from the status of simply attending she was there for one purpose. To be recognized by the Lord himself. She would not be satisfied with mingling the other nobles that considered themselves on par with one such as herself. After looking around for him she determined that his absence was a ploy to demonstrate his own importance.
Adelia cursed herself for the cancellations she made to attend before turning towards the door. However, she was interrupted by a servant girl motioning to her. Her lips formed into a thinly veiled smile and she masked her annoyance at the Lord taking his sweet time. What came next though she could have never predicted.
Bestowed upon her was a blessing like no other. Now she can explore the great seas in ways she never imagined since she was a child and no man can resist her voice. In her mind the downsides paled by comparison, and she found herself willing descending into darkness. Even if it means heeding Lord Nixus’s every beck and call.
Character Motivation: To make the most of her new found gift to fulfill her desires of splendor. The costs to others is irrelevant. As much as she wants to take back complete charge of her life from Lord Nixus, she’s not sure if she wants freedom if it means returning to normal. However, if a way presented itself to have both she would pursue it with her all.
