As one of my all-time favourite video games, I would love for there to be a roleplay based on the ninth instalment in the Dragon Quest series~! I've actually already done a 1x1 roleplay for this game in the past through texting, but I can't remember how far we got and have played the game so many times I'd like to return to this approach, hopefully with multiple people~ ^.^
So the last time I did this we had HP/MP/EXP mechanics of sorts, but really that was more or less just choosing random numbers allocated to each attack dealt and just decided now and then whether someone had taken enough hits to die, only to be almost immediately revived, nothing was properly calculated (honestly it seems like a chore and I hate maths), death held no weight to it and I don't think we ever lost a battle, so some 'solutions' I'm thinking of are~...

1) There just won't be any kind of game mechanics, so fighting is more artsy instead of just the names of characters and a skill used by them followed by damage dealt~
2) I'm lucky enough to find someone good at maths willing to calculate everything for everyone and be appointed MM (Maths/Mechanics Master~...?)
3) Rather than calculating things, some kind of randomizer is used to determine if an attack hits or misses, the amount of damage dealt etc.
I expect this won't get much attention, so there'll most likely be a small party (4 being the most in a party at any one time in the game, including the main avatar) which is fairly accurate, and we'll try to follow the main story or at least the order in which locations are visited, but other than that I don't want to be too strict and think it'd be nice for there to be lots of little interactions between party members, not just traveling and fighting all the time~ If more than 3 people happen to be interested they could maybe either be an antagonist, preferably a canonical character, but as presumably all of the main party members will be self-created avatars I don't mind self-created villains if preferred, as long as they're switching places with a canonical villain's usual location (unless you're willing to come up with an entire story, area, moves and whatever else allocated to an entirely self-made villain) - it may take a while to reach them so it might be a better idea to have multiple characters if you're not in the main party, just so you aren't completely inactive~ As for regular enemies and canonical bosses, I guess either one of the aforementioned 'solutions' could be used, or people take turns to play as enemies, or... just decide how a monster reacts if you attack it~? I'm not sure how we handled this when I did this before~... Then again, the focus was on adventure and character interaction, with battles few and far between, easily won and very short~ If a self-created avatar isn't in the main party I'd be happy for them to have little "meanwhile" posts of them hanging out at the Quester's Rest inn or even wandering the land, training or whatever, or we could just sacrifice more accuracy to boost the maximum number of party members to 5 or however much is needed~ Honestly I doubt this will be a problem, but just in case those are the options I could think of~ Other ideas are welcome~! :3
Vocations are not limited to those that can be chosen at the beginning of the game~ I'm planning to be a Luminary, who had started as a Priest so is able to heal well~ If you like, you could choose to be a Celestian for the entirety of the roleplay~ I always thought it was sad that you (*spoilers*~...?) don't get to stay as one~...
Ooh, um one thing I forgot to mention is my slightly odd roleplaying style~ I refrain from writing in a novel style because I don't like the third-person-ness; my chara embodies all of the things about myself that I feel I can't express in 'real' life (kyaaa, I hate that term~...), such as... well, talking at all~ So essentially, my chara is really my 'inner-self'; not quite a fully independent character of my 'real' self but the personification of my 'true' self~ Thusly, I prefer to have a more "this is ME and I want to feel properly settled into my 'role'" approach by using these (*) starry thingies I don't know the real name of to kinda act as a border for an action being carried out, [these] hard brackets / parentheses thingies if you'd like to fully describe a setting, regular brackets for a chara's thoughts and regular text for speech out loud~ Also, I don't really like to say "you" or "I/me" when describing an action, and don't like reading that if someone else does it (kyaaa, I'm sorry I'm so fussy~...! Q///w///Q ), so for example instead of writing "*hugs you*", I would prefer "*hugs [Name]/him/her/them*", or simply "*hugs*" (though of course I'd try to be MUCH more in-depth than in this example)~

Ah, DQIX. That was a fun game. Sadly, never beat any bonus bosses because I couldn't bother to grind everyone up for the quests and all that, and given that I never got a Metal King grotto to farm and stuff I never really beat more than a low level Baramos lol.

But yeah, I'm interested; sign me up, I guess.
Though I am curious as to how things will work before you hit Stornway, given that the Hexagoon was a solo boss iirc.

We could probably have it so we start just after the Hexagoon.

Or have it so multiple people are celestrians would solve the problem slightly. Everyone else could just be villagers in Angel Falls.
