About an hour passed.Thankfully, there seemed to be no other thing around except for a smaller group of pack hunters tried to make their way in and failed and moved on. Then the team decided on dragging the carcass of the dead beast in for research. For a first day, it was quite the tense one. Certainly quite the story for HQ. However, everyone was still on guard as there is still a chance of death from any night predators.
It was still about 1:45 (in terms of earth-time.) the humid air seemed unusually cold this hour, but it was probably just a draft of wind.
After that the squad decided on using a sleep shift schedule.

Javier wanted to go first saying," I may not be able to move my leg, but I still can shoot targets better than ever!"

[Deaddlife]

Nathan was still on edge when they finally decided the hunters where gone, even with the wooden barricades which he himself built they were sitting ducks.

"I don't think three watches are going to be enough if we all want a proper rest, and if those monsters do storm the camp three guns might not be enough. All in favor of calling in some more expedition members?"

[ManiacMaestro]

"According to HQ, we do have another possibly joining" David said, or at least that is the info that was sent to us over the communications hub.
"Now, Javier, I'd say it is high time to get something accomplished about that leg.David?,where is our medical supplies?" said Nathan.
"Over by the right wing of your spacecraft." David replied, going to get the box.

After giving the box to Nathan, David went back to looking at the carcass. He had gotten the body but sadly the head was blown to bits so he couldn't examine it. However what he found on the body was most disturbing..

It had coarse black hair that covered its body, claws that looked like they could do some serious damage if they got close as well as the hands having hour fingers, one of which was a thumb. The body thickness was that of a cat but more muscular and pronounced and it did have a tail which David could guess it was used for balance while running. Also, it's feet looked like they were made for gripping onto things and running.

Upon cutting the thing open David found nothing out of the ordinary except for the fact it had two red hearts. as well as four small lungs. David backed up then, for upon his inspection of the lower sections he found that the creature was also asexual, meaning that it had both female and male reproductive parts.

"Well boys this thing is a freak of nature, and I name the species Davite Agante." David said to Nathan and the other dude. "By the way, who exactly is the guy with the gimpy leg?"

"Soldier boy here is named Javier, and he is currently suffering from a bone compression. As for his life story, that will have to wait until after I preform field surgery." came Nathans reply.

Fortunately for traveling surgeons everywhere standardized equipment had been in the works since the twentieth century. The crate which David handed him was no mere box, it was the latest in modern medical equipment with a builtin disinfection system and a secondary set of maintenance equipment.

Disinfect, incision, clot, peel, clot again, bone saw, bone gel, bone setter, a few pins, un-peel, and finally cauterize.

"There, not exactly a direct tissue regeneration but you should be able to walk around without incident. Don't push it to hard though. Now, lets see about that extra hand shall we?"

Javier replied with:"fantastic. Finally I can get back to things as usual."
"For future reference,don't fall down holes or cliffs of any variety." Nathan Joked, then suddenly,the hunger hit him. "Now, onto the least perilous thing we have done so far. Let's eat!'
Those words had brought back at least some of the morale of these strained explorers.

David decided to go to sleep for it had been a long hard day for him. "Guys, I think I'll go to bed now. Good work today." David said before falling down into a deep sleep.

Dreams haunted him..

As tired as Nathan was he knew the three of them wouldn't last a week without at least another set of hands. Staggering to the communications array he filed the daily report and a request for additional personal, doing his best to remain coherent despite the exhaustion of making the barricades, hiking around, carrying Javier, defending against the monsters and preforming a field surgery.

Finally Nathan was sleeping again, mind to tired to torment him with visions or dreams.

Javier had taken first shift, carrying around a basic rifle that was accurate enough to put two rounds clean between your eyes on top of each other. His leg was doing okay, but constantly had to keep shifting his weight to the other.

The two had been long asleep. Javier was struggling to keep himself awake. He had gone through the rations, and found some M.R.Es and some coffee Grounds. The M.R.E was simple enough, and the coffee (although not really to his liking) was a good enough quick fix to keep him from falling asleep with his comrades.
Nothing really happened. He wandered around,studied the various smaller creatures go about there business.Still no other of those strange Ape-Werecat things.He made some temporary repairs to the wall with a filler material similar to sealant in the hardware store in terms of consistency, but dries hard (though not brittle.)Javier basically went about the morning doing various chores to keep him awake as well as something to do.

Sunlight. Nathan blinked, there was sunlight in his eyes. For a moment he was confused, he hadn't had to deal with sunlight on the station before. Then memory returned to him and he sat up, still on this questionably serene jungle planet.

Not bothering with his morning ritual Nathan dove straight into work, examining the creature they had killed last night. David had already preformed the autopsy and dissection, all that was left for Nathan was the taking of tissue samples. Taking a sample of the things blood, bone marrow and brain tissue was simple enough, however once he had begun the analysis of the tissues a rather odd incompatibility issue crop up. A second sample yielded the same result, the equipment couldn't get a proper analysis.

Finally yielding to this Nathan returned to the others, "We have something of a problem. The creature either decomposes really quickly, or was infected by some bacteria, or some other thing is preventing an in depth tissue analysis. In order to get a proper analysis we need to kill another creature."

David awoke frightened, the dream he was having, no, the nightmare he was having was sinister. He was being chased by the ape creatures through the jungle floor. His senses were dull and he could only see a light in the far distance and the noises of the chase behind him. He pushed it aside and got up to make coffee and some breakfast.

After having done so he got around and noticed Nathan going over samples so he decided not to bother him. Instead he went to the greenhouse and checked over plants to make sure they were doing alright and to notice any changes or growth. This took him about an hour and all seemed normal enough so he left the room to check on the others.

Nathans words struck him like a train. "Do we really have to?" He muttered sadly.

Looking at his feet to hide his own unsurety, Nathan answered, "I don't like it any more than you do, but our job is to research this planet and without another sample, a sample that the analysis machine can properly break down, we cant do out job. Now, we have an entire new day ahead of us, what should we do?"

"Perhaps we can get that creature the apecat was dining upon." David said with a shrug. They went out to the giant reptilian corpse luckily, it did not seem too desecrated, and brought it within the camp. It had a gradient design of green scales all over its body, and was similar to a giant gecko, but with a strange grey/off white fur running down its back,much like the mane of a horse. "Strange creature,isn't it." Javier said, shooting down smaller creatures for observation and food,going out to drag them in. "Well I HAVEN'T seen anything quite like THAT." Nathan humorously exaggerated. Javier laughed at Nathan's statement ,as he was setting up a fire pit. It seemed like this mission was actually getting somewhere for once.

"If we use this as bait then we probably need to get a live one seeing as they hunt at night and this thing is dead. I doubt they are scavengers though I could be wrong, but going back for the same kill? I don't think so." David said as he scratched his chin thinking. Perhaps if they make a pitfall trap or one with rope they could snare one of the beasts but it would be tricky that was for sure. He'd just have to wait and see what the others thought on the matter.

Nathan stewed over Davids comments as the trio began preparing for a late breakfast. He supposed it didn't really matter how or when they got a proper sample of the creature, but he preferred to know his enemy in depth. Of course while he preferred it it was rare that he ever got such a benefit, maybe there was some correlation between those facts.

"Whatever we do we wont get into the thick of it until nightfall, we have a day to kill."

[Lord Zee]

"Alright, lets go hunting then for this prey of theirs." David said to Nathan as he found himself a gun. They couldn't spend all day on this so they needed to get out there and start searching. "Follow me, I'll lead the way!" David said excitedly.

As the explorers began there scouting mission, not completely knowing completely what they are up against.
But, the weather is much better than it was yesterday, not extremely comfortable but less harsh. They had finally found a suitable spot. They had began constructing their observation area. placing the bait in the empty spot, and creating a platform high up in a tree. "so," Nathan said, "do we trap it or do we kill it?" "Our initial plan is to trap it" "If worst comes to worst, We have David here, don't we?" David. Chuckled at his statement and replied "That is, If I hit it." Continuing building a simple trap, with an elaborate plan.

It was nice just to be relaxing up in the tree perch, but like the planet as a whole the serenity had a lethal dose of fear that would rear its ugly head sooner rather than later. But for now it was calm enough.

Nathan dozed off.
