David relaxed the gun, sensing no threat here. "Well I'm David. Trapping is a bit better but I think what we have to do now is be silent. Animals are very cautious and we don't know anything about them." David said to Nova as he looked down at the area waiting for something to come.
"do you know what animals are on this planet? and i don't think that trip would work without some bait in it?" i asked, looking inside the trip that had no bait, giggling a little bit.
Having slowly found his way back to consciousness Nathan blinked, compared to his life on a space station this deadly jungle planet was aright.
Suddenly the snare snapped tight, letting loose a crack akin to a whip. The sound startled the half-dozing Nathan, bringing him to his feet only to remember he had been sitting in a tree. Underbrush broke his fall.
They others raced to get The creature and Nathan. The creature let out a furious roar. Nathan scrambled around getting to the ladderand climbing up to his comrades. The creature was like the one that assaulted them, only bigger with a darker fur coat.
watching the creature, trying to attack with its strong claws. "Watch Out!" i yelled, hoping that everyone heard me from the darker fur coat creature making a lot of noises.
Nathan sat panting in the tree as David shot the creature to pieces. Not wasting any time he quickly slide back down the ladder and flipping open his field gear began to collect tissue, bone and brain samples.
Moving at a deliberate pace he called "To late to gripe about killing it but you might have a point about it not being alone. Cover me so I can get what we need. New girl, feel free to take my rifle and help them."
"Genetic mapping, appraisal for medical purposes, background information in the evolution of the planet, take your pick. The long and short of it is that these tissue samples are added to our database. Now please keep your eyes open for others, these are pact creatures after all,"
i frowned at the information that was given to me. "now if it was metal, that would be more entertainment" i mumbled to myself, keeping a lookout, while hearing some noises coming from the bushes behind me.
The jungle was quiet except for the sound of Nathan collecting the samples. Tissue and hair samples took a few moments each. Bone extractions took about three minutes. Finally all that was left was for the brain samples, still ill at ease despite the calm Nathan powered on the small bonesaw from his medical bag and began cutting open the things skull.
Maybe six minutes passed with nothing but the hum on the saw against bone, a quick scalpel work later Nathan had the last of the samples.
With the samples in hand, and another rather tense moment, the crew made their way to camp. David and Nathan began studying the samples as Javier began to cook the animals he hunted the other day, knowing that anything he cooked up would be at least tastier than rations. They agreed unanimously that work would never cease to be done.
Fortunately for the entire research team the new samples were successfully analysed and added to the data base, however short of a proper genetics laboratory and some advanced equipment it did not appear to have any immediately valuable uses.
"Good news everybody, we can avoid these monsters as much as we like from now on. What say we reinforce the defenses to celebrate?"
