OH SHIT SON A NEW IC POST

Also, before I get to posting, the knights ARE leaving the city shortly, correct?

Yup.

EDIT: "The city might very well come under siege soon: in fact, he was counting on it"

Do not want. Not one bit.

Well, he doesn't know about the PCs. He's expecting to be attacked by Oromis himself, once he's finished trouncing the Prophet. In any case, if you guys get bogged down in a siege of the city, things will go south quickly regardless.

Gotcha. That is why we've got Red Myra, after all. There is only one thing cavalry officers hate more than pike hedges, and that is siege warfare.

I'll try and get a post up today, but it is unlikely: I've got to run another RPG tonight, and that will eat up all my writing inspiration I fear. I'll certainly have one out tomorrow.

Going to be honest, I'm not quite happy with my post. I expect I'll edit it and tack on some more stuff I had meant to write onto it, but for now it'll have to do. It felt like I was writing a shitty anime script, or something from Hideo Kojima.

Speaking of, expect a serious delay in posts for a while after September 1st. MGSV too hype, gotta play that shit all day erry day.

Haha, Hideo Kojima lol. I thought it was nice, Eschatologist. Just so everyone knows, I'm over halfway through expanding my next post and then tomorrow I'll edit the crap out of it and post it. It's really mainly about introducing a few new characters and setting up the next stage of the attack. Also, just FYI, my post does a wee bit of a time skip, starting at sunset and ending late in the evening. I hope that doesn't mess with anyone too bad. Also, Eschatologist, I'm going to have some written orders from Claes to Myra in this post so if you don't like the way I've written them then let me know.

Will do boss.

Also, I am really liking Claes having maximum sea-sickness. She hates boats so fucking much.

Well, there's my new challenge for this RP: try and get Myra in a dress and on a horse at the same time.

There'll be a parade through Tolos, after it gets captured. Obviously, this will be on horseback, since you're part of the cavalry now. At the end of the parade, there'll be a high society ball, and there'll be nowhere to change. If you show up in last years dresses, let alone cuir boulli or whatever Myra wears, Oromis will have no choice but to exile you.

Brilliant plan.

The God-King of FABULOUS mankind? Anyways, I'd say my post is a little under two-thirds of the way done. I hate doing the in media res stuff, but what are you going to do? Hopefully, after the post after this one, I won't have to do that anymore. So many "hads" in one paragraph just end up confusing everybody lol.

Alright, one last chunk to do and then my BIG edit. It should be up later on tonight. Looking forward to working on my next post because, after that one, I'll be ready for my big gate assault post! Huzzah for finally starting the battle lol. I also wanted to thank you guys for being so patient and understanding. I'm on this site a great deal, but I do struggle with finding time to post. So, thanks for bearing with me, and I look forward to laying siege to the City of Kings with you =P

This was a tough one, not going to lie. I find myself getting stuck in familiar phrasing sometimes, and I feel like I write in the passive voice too much. I don't know. Anyways, my post is up and it gets the job done, I suppose. My next post will definitely be shorter lol. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns let me know. I'll add Vashara Maladar and a few other NPCs to my 'Dramatis Personae' section and then I'm off to bed.

At least you don't accidentally let latin grammatical systems slip into your writing. I'm sure you could find a dozen ablative absolutes in my posts if you looked.

"With the gate having been taken" sure is a good thing to write.

Also, stellar post. I'll think about the orders and make suggestions once I wake up and have some cognitive capacity back.

Take your time, Vahir. Lol.

@Eschatologist My thought was my next post would pick up with the Forlorn Hope and the penal battalions marching through Lyvresse. It would end with them reaching their destination, seeing Tolos from afar, and starting work on the ram. Maybe Claes' messenger, carrying orders for Myra to take the Sun Gates, reaches them around that point? And, out of curiosity, how are the Gray Winds going to breach the gates? I'm curious :)

I was just thinking: building the ram seems like an uncertain proposition. The idea initially was to build the ram to pull troops to one gate, but the Grey Winds want the least amount of people within fortifications as possible, regardless of position. A few more people for Myra to fend off as she holds the gates open is a much better proposition than having a thousand spears in their fortifications, even if they're initially in the wrong position, entirely protected from cavalry and able to mount counterattacks. I think the ram should be scrapped, honestly.

What would be better is for the penal battalions to scale the walls all over the place and get off them asap, getting into the city and drawing soldiers out of their fortifications. Myra stays on the walls and holds the gatehouse with her elites, and then once she has opened the gate the lancers pour in and have a much easier fight in the wide streets.

So: plan.

penal troops scale the wall, get into the city and start fucking things up: no civilian casualties, but property destruction will likely be permitted. Guard is drawn out of fortifications to deal with it.
SImultaneously,Myra and her lot climb the walls near the gatehouse, seize and hold the gate open.
Claes and her force wait, once she sees the gates are open the horses dash in, start fucking things up, seize key locations and hopefully quickly force surrender.

Sound good? Sorry for going back on the ram idea, it just seems superfluous and sub-optimal. Any hint of siege would stop forces leaving fortified positions and make escalade much harder all over the wall, despite enemies nucleating forces at the wrong place.

I thought the ram was a distraction, basically. Manned by cannon fodder, the ram would draw the Etruscans to the gate while Myra and company scaled the walls elsewhere to wreck shit and sneak up on the gatehouse. Then the gates would be open so Claes can do her stuff.

EDIT: You know what? It's cool. I'll adjust the orders Thond gave Myra to better reflect this new idea. The southern edge of Lyvresse is still a good place for the penal battalions and the Forlorn Hope to rest up, wait for orders, and prepare for the assault.
