"R-Rose?" The young man asked what could be considered his wife. He knew that she did understand the concept of married to some point, enough for her to declare herself his wife. Though, while she would still be the wife of Greg Universe, her time in this world was short. He had offered to drive her to the hospital before remembering how gems worked and all.
"Before you... go, can I do one more thing for you?"Rose smiled at Greg He was such a kind and pure human, the perfect one for her.
"You've already done so much." She spoke to him.
"But what is it?"Greg could not help his shaking as he reached for his ukulele. He only had a few more moments with her, and he needed to make them count.
"I... I want to sing you that song."Rose was unable to hold her laughter. She knew exactly which song he was going to sing, and laughed more as Greg blushed. Of course, she had never actually heard the full song, only what little bits and pieces he had played for her.
"I worked hard on it Rose!" He defended himself.
"You guys are like superheroes, and superheros need theme songs. Besides," He shrugged with a sigh.
"You haven't heard the whole thing before."A moment of silence. Greg waited patiently for Rose's answer, and but to his enjoyment, she nodded. The young man quickly pulled out several papers.
"Hey Amethyst!" Greg suddenly called out as he handed some of the papers to Rose.
"Go and get the other two, it's show time!"Soon enough, the three young gems arrived on the soft sands of the beach, surrounding Rose with soft smiles all around.
Gred handed out the rest of the papers, and with a strum, they started.
"If you're evil and you're on the rise,""You can count on the four of us bringing you down!""Because we're good and evil never beats us,""We'll win the fight, then go out for Pizzas!""You, are the crystal gems, you'll always save the day. And if they think you can't, you'll always find a way. That's why the people,""Of""This""World""Believe in~""Garnet,""Amethyst""And Pearl~"Rose looked at all of them, a tear in her eye and a smile on her face. They all watched back, wondering how she'd react to the song she had yet to full listen to. Her gem began to glow.
Four sets of eyes widened. They had been expecting this moment for some time now, but it was still too soon.
Her body became encased in light, but she was still able to see their crying eyes. She wanted to tell them it could be okay, but there was only time to say one thing as her body began to fade. Her voice echoed in her place, ringing out into the ears of her family as an entirely new being took her place.
It was too soon. Despite all of the preperation, none of them were ready. They were still so young, and things would get worse before they could even start thinking about getting better. Surely some part of rose would still be there, but it wouldn't be the same. They'd have no leader, nobody to trim and train the growing garden.
But they still had faith that they'd be okay. Even if Rose wasn't physically there, she'd still be watching over them, being the guideline they hoped to stand by. It would take time getting used to such a large change, but they could overcome it.
Greg knew that he could only provide so much. This was something new to everyone, and he was just was important to them as he was to him. He didn't need future vision to see that one day, it was going to be the four of them.
