Beneath the mountains of the east, there rests a small clan, diverse in colours and skills because of it's nature to take in rogues and kittypets that prove themselves worthy of clan life. They make their home in a series of tunnels beneath the mountain, though they hunt outside of the area and still bask in the sun on the rocks in their territory. This is CliffClan. At one point this cland was several stray cats and a few kittypets anxious to get out of the house and into the wilds. These cats were brought together by two who were living in the mountains at the time; the first leader and medicine cat. They took to the tunnels and forest beneath the mountains. These cats have better senses of smell and touch and can see better in the dark than other cats because of their preferred living space and hunting grounds. This clan is one to take in rogues and kittypets that show promise and drive.
Between the mountain and it's wood, there is a strip of land untouched by any clan, a river flows and tall grass grows. This is the border between all clans, the meeting place is the Crossing, a space between the four sections of river with plenty of undergrowth and three trees, each standing in the direction of a clan.
South of this is where LightClan makes it's home among the low hedges and bowing willows. They are adept at swimming and hunting in water; having grown used to the damp of their slightly more wet home than the other clans have. They are primarily browns and blacks, easy to hide among the shadows. These cats are not as accepting of outsiders and often push away even the other clans. LightClan lives in the wet lands not too far away and have better balance and are great swimmers but aren't the best climbers because most of the trees they have are willows which are difficult to climb and balance on in the first place. This clan began from just a set of three cats that lived in the wetlands away from the others, hostile toward outsiders before their first leader showed them who was boss and they started LightClan. They aren't too fond of outsiders and will almost never take in any other cats. They also despise weakness and fear.
To the north of both clans the mountain range extends a ways, falling into the territory of the third clan; AshClan. Their territory is made primarily of an expanse of rolling hills and plains, though a portion of the mountain range does fall into their territory, sometimes resulting in territorial battles with CliffClan. But the most notable part of AshClans territory, and the feature from which they gained their name, is a long-dead volcano jutting out from the plains. The clan has turned the magma tunnels around the base of the dead volcano into their home, a maze of smooth volcanic rock that even CliffClan would have trouble navigating. They are hardier than either of the other clans, able to go longer without sustenance, and while they usually hunt small game such as mice, gophers, and small birds, they have created a method of pack hunting that allows them to take down somewhat larger game. AshClan was born out of what was nearly a civil war in LightClan. Many years ago a large number of LightClan warriors felt that their leader had grown soft, unfit to lead them properly. Whether this was actually the case is long since forgotten, and of course the two clans disagree heavily on that. Either way, the old LightClan leader, along with several warriors and a medicine cat who were loyal to them, ended up being forced out of LightClan and after wandering in search of a new home, eventually started Ashclan. It's sometimes said that Ashclans greatest warriors are descended from the native lynxes that are believed to have helped the first members of AshClan find their new home and settle down.
