[IC] The Shift (Recruiting)

Kirin's head collided with the concrete with a loud THUD. It wasn't enough to knock him out, but he couldn't move for a moment, and his vision blurred. The ringing of the explosion also stung his ears like knives. Laying on his side within the dust cloud, he had as clear of a view as he could at the moment of the door-way, and saw the man in the jumpsuit stagger outside, feeling around for Kirin.

Move! Move damnit! Get out of here!

Kirin fought his fatigue and pain with all that he could, trying to escape the cloud.

As Alex got to the door he saw the jumpsuit man, and the world suddenly opened up in a violent burst of energy. He was behind the jumpsuit man, but the vibrations and sound were enough to knock Alex back and onto the ground

When Alex was a freshman he played on the the football team and decided it wasn't for him. This was because the coach realized that not only was Alex not a clone of his older brother but also Alex suffered his third concussion in 2 games. It was then Alex decided photography was where his real gifts were. This energy blast made Alex almost feel very nostalgic about those concussions.

Alex slowly sat up and was trying to shake off the cobwebs as he saw the outline of Kirin laying on the ground through a thick cloud of dust and smoke. Alex started to get up slowly and look for something he could attack with to help buy Kirin sometime.

He stood up shaking his head a couple of times, and then Alex heard a voice that snapped him back into reality. Alex heard his dad giving the jumpsuit orders.

Alex said, "Oh no dad don't piss him off. You can't do this to him."

Alex was finally able to see the jumpsuit and if body language was an indicator this guy wasn't going to listen to Dan. The thought of Alex losing his father, and his mom out of town for a conference possibly being told that her husband was killed over the phone was more than Alex could take.

Without hesitation Alex charged towards the jumpsuit. When he judged he was at the right distance Alex lunged at him like a linebacker going after a quarterback.

Katherine made her way slowly through the dust and smoke. She was unsure of where to head out to till she heard the officer's voice. She decided to head towards the police and try telling them about the threat they were dealing with.As she approached them , Katy quickly thought of what she was going to say.
"Officer! a man in a jumpsuit is going after a student.. oh, and he can make people float in mid-air." There was no way the police would believe the latter till they experienced it themselves.
Deciding that to be ineffective in the current situation, Katy turned around, now with the new intention of finding either her friends or the man. She was, however, not quite sure of her action plan if she did happen to run into the latter.

The man seemed to be regaining composure, soon his head turned toward Kirin. He had found his target, and walked slowly toward him with his arm raised. Suddenly, the man fell over and created a wave of dust from his impact. Alex was now on top of the man, who was laying face first in the dirt. The smoke began to clear at this moment, and Dan was finally able to see all of the commotion. "Alex?! What the hell are you doing, get away from him!" The other officers all readied their weapons, aiming at the three of them.

Alex was now on top of the man in the suit. This made Alex a little sad because he was thinking it would be so cool if this thing was a robot, but just then the man rolled effortlessly and as he did he shoved Alex right back through the door. Alex landed flat on his back and his head bounced off the carpet. Sadly though it was very thin carpeting and there was linoleum under it and Alex knew once again he probably had a mild concussion.

Knocking Alex to the ground, the man stood up and extended his arm toward Kirin. By now the cloud of dust had subsided and the three of them were once again in full sight of the police. The man became very tense as he made an upward grasping motion, as if he was lifting a train with one arm. He clenched his fist half-closed as he slowly raised his arm, and he now had Kirin floating toward him helplessly. In an exasperated fit of breathing, the man managed to spit out his frustrated demand.

"GIVE... IT... TO... ME!!"

Many officers watching this lowered their weapons in disbelief, but Daniel remained in control of the situation as he dropped the loudspeaker mic and drew his pistol and aimed at the man. "PUT HIM DOWN RIGHT NOW! I WILL SHOOT!" he yelled as loud and threateningly as he could. Daniel knew all too well that at this point he was merely bluffing. How was he to know that shooting the man wouldn't cause his device to overload and hurt Kirin? The man now had a hostage technically, and could throw Kirin into any bullets fired at him. Shooting the devices had the same risks as shooting him, so that was no good. All he could do was hope the jumpsuit man would listen to reason... but then, an idea struck him. Was it possible that the man was only capable of manipulating one object at a time? Mentally recalling the pictures Alex sent him, Daniel realized that this was likely the case. Since the man was already "holding" Kirin he couldn't do anything else outside of his physical capabilities, and he looked exhausted as well. Knowing he couldn't do anything else, Daniel decided to charge the man head on and apprehend him that way.

Like father, like son, so it seemed.

Dan started towards the jumpsuit man who with little effort not only side-stepped him, but gave him a shove that sent Dan throw the open doors. Dan shifted his weight so when he landed his vest took the impact of the fall.. It didn't mean that Dan didn't feel some minor discomfort, but he realized he was in pretty good shape. Then he looked over and saw his semi-coherent son leaning against a couch. Dan realized that Alex was not exactly all there at the moment. As much of law enforcement officer Dan prided himself on being he was a father first. Dan rushed over to his son and knelt beside Alex.

Dan growled, "Alexander William Knight if the next sentence out of your mouth isn't 'I tripped I wasn't trying to get in the way' I'm slapping the cuffs on you, throwing you in a squad car, and putting you in a holding cell."

Alex very disorientated replied, "Dad that man wasn't listening to you. I've seen him kill someone, carry Katy around by her throat, and rip doors like cardboard. I couldn't stand the thought he could hurt you too."

Dan was exasperated as he said, "I swear Alex you and common sense are so exclusive to one another sometimes it should be a super power for you." Dan reigned in his temper as he said, "I am trained to handle situations like this son. I know what I'm doing. All-right? Your heart was in the right place as always, but this isn't a time for you to listen to your heart son.." He closed his eyes and said, "If something happened to you I'd be devastated, your mother would never forgive me, and your siblings would be crushed. Please son stay out of the way and let me do my job Okay?."

Alex nodded slowly and still somewhat in a daze. Dan said, "And of course you might have another concussion. Although from what I could see through the dust and smoke the tackle you made was textbook." Knight got on his radio and said, "Unit 2 this is Knight."

A voice replied, "Go ahead sir."

Dan asked, "Are the mutual response units in place?"

The voice stated, "That is an affirmative sir."

Dan nodded and said, "All right the orders are as followed. Parker County comes in and sweeps the building out. Get everyone out faculty, staff, and students this building is empty in two minutes. Use side doors, back doors, hell even break windows if necessary but this building is cleared out. No one comes through the front lobby We have the assailant here and we'll buy you all the time you need. Madison County gets everyone to the buses stationed on the other side of the woods past the football field if they came on a bus. If anyone drove they get to their cars and Owens County covers their escape in the parking lot. Tell them once they're on a bus or in a car text or call family members to let them know that they're safe and away from the building. Once that's done everyone resumes their posts I want this underway within 30 seconds of us clearing the channel. Clear?"

The voice replied, "Copy that command. Unit 2 out."

Dan looked over and knocked on the office door. A couple people raised their heads up and Dan held up his badge. They opened the door and Dan said, "Everyone down the hall and out the side door now move."

Dan then went back to Alex lifted up his visor, and took off his sunglasses. He leaned in and said, "I may not always understand you son, but understand this; I loved you from the minute I heard your heartbeat for the first time, and I love you just as much today. I'm so proud of you son."

Alex replied, "I love you too dad."

Dan kissed Alex on the forehead gently and placed his car keys in Alex's hand. Dan pulled away and said, "The minute you're up for it you get out the side door and get to my car. Get out of here Alex go to the station and stay with Sargent Murphy."

Alex nodded and said, "Murphy got it. She's the pretty one right?"

Dan replied, "Yeah but please no flirting with her right now. Last thing I need is her threatening to quit because you couldn't keep your hormones in check."

Dan stood up and took one last look at his semi-disoriented son, and then he smiled at Alex. Dan then turned his attention back to the front putting his sunglasses back on and his visor down Dan took off.

Alex stared at the ground for a moment and just blinked. He said, [B]"Wow I did get to drive Dad's Challenger. I hope I get to run the lights and sirens too,"[/B
