Just over 300 years ago, Tessanis was a bountiful, magical world. Its two massive continents were dotted with many powerful, highly cultured empires. War and peace were equally common, and magical advancement outpaced science by a far cry. Every empire and city-state had battalions of battle-mages, academies for the more scholarly types, and even simple working mages. Magic was a daily part of nearly every person's life.
Then one day, it all simply stopped. Magic had completely ceased to exist. This caused utter chaos for the many people that had come to rely upon it for even the simplest of tasks. Empires began scrambling for the most base of resources, entire cities starved to death, and death became the replacement for magic.
After a century of struggling, only one of the original empires survived. This was the grand city of Ebonfort. Before magic left the world, it was known for its especially brutal tactics and inhumane treatment of any outsider, which coupled with their darker hued stone and armor, making it oft called the Dark Castle. 'Might makes right' was a common saying in Ebonfort, and still is to this day. The city has remained under the rule of the Order of the Ebon Knights, led by four Grand Generals. And under this rule, the empire has maintained its prosperity of days past, through sheer force of will.
When Ebonfort was starving, their armies, who relied the least upon magic, conquered farming and fishing villages. When their people were under attack by magical creatures, that seemed totally unaffected by the banishment of magic, the Ebon Knights stood strong. When the nearby empire of Vircastoria attempted to invade them under a banner of justice and righteousness, the Ebonfort stood strong.
Being the only surviving empire hasn't softened the nation's resolve either; it simply provides less enemies to face. The biggest threats now are the rampant magical creatures that attack the surrounding villages, the aggressive raids by the wild horsemen known as The Screamers, and natural disasters.
However, there are two rumors that have been coming in with the very few travelers that survive making the journey to Ebonfort. The first is that a few new cities have risen up from the ruins of the old. This wasn't particularly distressing to the Ebon Knights, for most of the ruins were too far away to warrant much attention, save perhaps Vircastoria.
The most startling rumor was that magic was beginning to return. That there were individuals, even within the empire, that had begun discovering their magic. The rumors had always existed, but now, they had increased in frequency and reliability since the 300th anniversary of the departure.
This gave the Ebon Knights two new goals, to inspire those within their ranks. Discover these new civilizations, to learn if they are worth conquering or pose a threat is the first. But the most important is to round up as many of these supposed magic users, by any means necessary, and move from a never-dying legacy, to a world dominating power.
This quest is open to anyone who so wishes, there will be multiple facets to this. If you wish to join, ask me in chat, the OOC, or by PM.
The Knights Tournament was in full swing today. The last several days had been spent setting up various bleachers, arenas, and stalls over a large area at the intersection south of Green Fall, east of Scream Watch, and north east of Ruby Banks. The area was a fairly flat grassy plains, and the sun was shining high. The central most arena was the largest, and was dedicated to the Grand Melee. On the north side of this was the long horse racing track, and due south was the archery range. There were small arenas for various strength, speed and skill contests.
Every citizen knew of the tournament. It was established by the Knights, run mostly by the squires, and was for recruiting potential Knights. Only regular citizens could participate, and the Knights and squires could not. The system was simple, the first half of the day was dedicated to every event except the Grand Melee. If you earned a top five spot in any single event, you earned a spot in the Grand Melee. The Grand Melee always took place in the second half of the day, and put all the competitors in the ring with heavy wooden weapons of their choice and ordered to fight.
It didn't necessarily matter if you won or lost. Many high ranking Knights observed the combat, and it was up to them if a person passed or not. You could defeat every other combatant and not earn a Knightship if none of the Knights deemed you worthy. Because of this, everyone fought their hardest, and many different strategies emerged. Some favored teamwork, others preferred to go it alone.
Vendors used this time to hawk their goods, gamblers placed bets, and money exchanged hands through many different means, most legal, some not. During the first half of the day, many of the knights were called away, for apparently Scream Watch was under attack by a particularly large raiding party of Screamers. This wasn't terribly uncommon, but because the Knights were called away in their large column of metal and horses, the squires were left behind to operate and defend the Tournament. And this is when all hell broke loose.

They can be moderated by my Co-GMs if they so wish (Rekaigan and Drache :P), or if you'd rather do it yourself, solo or with other characters, you can, and I can provide you with the proper details. The only events that require GM moderation are the Frigmount and New Vircastoria missions. 4th - Trix & Ember (Full) 9th - Open 17th - Open 25th - Open 31st - Open 36-38th - Open 41st - Chartrose & GM (Full) 45th - Rilana, Chartrose, Alya and GM (Sign ups still open) 58th - Megumi, Zael Ghast, Raffey (Sign ups still open) 61st - Trix & Zenovia (Open)

Weather: Temperatures are the coolest they will be all year with days around 78F/25C and nights dipping as low as 65F/18C. Skies are mostly overcast and brief cool showers blow in from the sea every few days. There is a high chance for fog in the mornings in the vicinity of the volcano due to open lava floes reacting to the precipitation.
1st: This is an election year for the Wyrmoot. As new year celebrations wind down there is a disturbance in the Gem Deeps. The corpse of a prominent Ixen (fire dragon) is found stuffed in a sapphire mine-shaft, cause of death...uncertain. A joint investigation between the Dwarven Mining Guild and the Wing Host is begun to discover the killer.
13th: A trading carrack called the Wavecutter sets sail from the harbour under the command of a new captain. Her mission is to trade precious gems down the coast for goods and metal.
16th: A dwarven mining party doesn't report in for two days. Tunnel Runners discover the bloody aftermath of a slaughter. The carts of raw gems remain, but the bodies are gone, a trail of blood leading down into the Underdark. While there is no proof of drow involvement, tension rises between dwarf and drow Pyresians.
20th: An unofficial Shade Market is held by drow and dwarves in the middle of the night in a cavern in the subterranean portion of the city. The goods and services are dubious and illicit even by Pyresian standards, and a noted poison-maker is held for questioning.
25th: Wing Host scouts spot unfamiliar sails in the seas to the south but must turn back to the coast before they can investigate further.
31st: The annual Svantapzik or 'Sky Match' is held above a meteor crater slightly to the east of the city. This tournament is a test of the Wing Hosts skills in combat. The fighting starts at dawn. Much of the city turns out to watch the show.
40th: Two lightning dragons, a mated pair, are found dead in their balcony home, their corpes blackened by fire, their single infant wyrmling missing. The Shochra clan (lightning dragons) retaliate against the Ixens in a series of skirmishes that leave several homes and businesses trampled. Tensions between the four dragon clans mounts as dwarven citizens attempt to remain neutral, many petitioning the Wyrmoot for reparations.
45th: A small tribe of barbarians is discovered on the northeastern borders, many of them carrying armour and equipment crafted from dragonhide and bones. Enraged, the two-dragon patrol kills and eats all but a few of these "Kvaren", bringing the rest back as captives to be imprisoned and questioned.

Kerawac sees no snow, only frigid cold and fierce biting winds. This season hosts one of the biannual Gatherings, held in the center of the region. It is a massive festival, that all Warlords, Shadewalkers, and Swordmasters are required to attend. Most tribes come in full, however, to trade and barter, to settle disputes as a public spectacle, to catch up with old friends and rivals, and revel in their victories and tease those in defeat.
1st 15th - The Gathering begins with a massive collection of bonfires, upon the center of which all Sashes collected since the last Gathering are thrown. Asher, Trix 18th - The Howling Storm tribe and The Winged Frogs tribe go to war. It is an impressive battle, that comes down to the two best swordsmasters from each tribe. Azure Strand has surprisingly clear weather this season, despite past Saffra being filled with storms and rain. Fisherman do abundantly well this season. The hidden war between the knights and the criminal groups of last season come to a head, with the Knights initiating martial law. Anyone found outside of their homes after sunset will be arrested. An additional company is sent to Azure Strand to enforce this law, forcing citizens to house knights. The unrest continues to grow.
1st 7th* - A large fishing boat managed to kill a Dire Whale and haul it back to the village. After harvesting as much blubber and oil as possible, the meat is given away for free to any who take it, as there is too much that would spoil. 12th* - Martial Law is initiated. 44th* - The Khefferu Company, Emerald Regiment, Corcillus Batallian arrives in Azure Strand to help enforce the Martial Law and ease unrest. 46th# - The aforementioned company turns out to not be knights at all, but those that robbed the Grand Armory, and they, with the other criminals in the city, slaughter every Knight in the village. 49th* - The village returns to peace, as the new "Knights" have removed the Martial Law and have reported to the capital that village has been cleansed of its criminals. 61st

All animal races seem to be reduced to feral nature 38th* - The city and the surrounding fog areas are quarantined by knights from outside the fog. This is held in the fields, is centered around giving thanks for the sun, the rain, the ground, the crops. Because of the Winter Moon festival raids last season, there is a very heavy presence of Knights. 33rd* - The River Festival takes place in the Ruby Rivers. It's a festival of renewal and rebirth, so clothes are entirely void. It is considered great luck to give birth on this day, as well as to be married. 52nd# - A foreign merchant comes into town with his caravan, and an incredibly surprising amount of slaves, mostly Kvaren, speaking of having met some peoples on the edge of a desert wasteland. 61st
Scream Watch is in a state of surprising productivity. They are doing many repairs, building new walls and outposts across the region, providing lots of work for many people. No one knows why they are grouped, but they are mostly just annoying. 59th* - A Drow Merchant arrives with goods from the Underdark. Clothing made of spidersilk, new types of gemstones, and books from his people. 61st
It’s spring in Silvermist, and spring means flowers, and flowers means bees… and birds… Anyway, the point is that the residents of Silvermist are taking full advantage of the warmer weather. The schools are closed for planting season and for the Festival, and it seems like adventure is just waiting to happen.

Many men are reluctantly lured into impregnating them. 27th* - A trade expedition for the Underdark leaves. 39th$ - A Frost Troll woman arrives, telling a tale of a set of ruins uncovered by avalanches last season. 54th* - The Drow that are currently in power hold a Festival of the Night. This event is essentially a massive game of hide and seek, where those that are found copulate with those that found them. 61st
Weather: Temperatures begin to rise slowly throughout the season to about 80F/26C, though as the breaks between frequent rain showers lengthen and there are more days of sunshine it begins to feel like springtime. An explosion of colour sweeps the jungle as tropical flowers begin to open, especially towards the end of the month.

Many drow leave Pyresia and their departure is not peaceful. They venture across the Kerawac through underground pathways towards Ebonfort.
$13th: A small earthquake from the mountain occurs just before dawn. Though lava flows from the mountain constantly, there hasn't been a tremor in nearly a decade. What little damage is caused is quickly addressed by the Dwarves Guilds of Builders and Masons. However, the shift opens a previously hidden tunnel in the Gem Deeps that appears to have been carved long ago.
*17th: As the weather improves, the dry docks are crowded as shipwrights begin construction on new vessels, funded by the Merchant Guild. Demand for crew members begins to climb, bringing many new faces into the city.

It is rumoured that one of the whores carries the half-blood offspring of a prominent dragon.
*32nd: After so many Xarzi (frost) dragons made a pilgrimage to the northweast, the remaining members of their clan begin to squabble among themselves about who they want to elect as their Wyrmoot representative.
#35th: Ilumírë is once again plagued by hazardous scaled beasts, though this time it is mating season for the faerie dragons. These small vibrant reptiles use their breath-weapons indiscriminately and procreate en masse, creating a strained atmosphere among even the most promiscuous faeries. This is an annual problem but this year many gravid female faerie dragons turn up missing.
