Name: Joe Kurogane
Age: 15
Gender: Male

Appearance: i.imgur.com/Sgd4GSm.jpg

Nationality: Japanese

Favorite Gundam Series: G Gundam, Gundam Beast

Personality: Joe doesn't want to be here. He's not interested in the Gundam franchise, he's not interested in pursuing a career in pro Gunpla, and he really, really hates the kind of losers that frequent the Akibahara district. However, he understands what wins in this sport, just like in the Toku and "actual decent robot" shows he loves: Hard Work And Guts. While your performance in the arena won't impress him, your training MIGHT. He's mostly sticking around because it's the school closest to his house, and by Japanese school districts, he's stuck here. Plus, he figures that the faculty here's going to be interested in funding one of his personal projects.

History: Joe's family has always been gearheads who love giant robots, superheroes, and space. Well, giant robots that aren't Gundam. This really colored their career paths. His Uncle Go builds military robots. His Uncle Saotome works on autopilot systems for jets. His brother Jiron works in bomb disposal. His sister Noriko joined the navy to work with guidance systems. His cousin Gai is an astronaut. Joe and his father, however, take after Grandpa Sadamitsu- a grizzled mechanic and known hellraiser from the days when Bancho were in every schoolyard. As Joe's father Kouji took up the Kurogane Motors mechanic shop withe the retirement of his grandfather, Joe was set to take up the mantle down the road, after apprenticing under his father and graduating high school.

That is, until he received an invitation to a gunpla school in the district with no way to refuse. Due to the zoning laws of the Japanese education system, he must attend the closest school to his place of residence- in this case, the unaccredited school where students study Gunpla and nothing else. He dreads being stuck here, since he's pretty sure they don't give out real diplomas and he has no interest in being a professional gunpla player. But while he's here, he might as well make some friends.

I really like what you have going for your char someone like that is a breath of fresh air honestly. Beyond that akiba academy while focuses on gunpla it is still a standard school with standard classes as well so if you chalk up that part on lack of knowledge thats ok. Beyond that I had a problem or two if with people joining but not posting if you can promise that you can post I'll let you join beyond that try to put the images in hiders and all that like so.

I'll do my best to post regularly, but midterm projects are coming up. You may have lost some players to that.

So I'm thinking about joining, but after reading the IC there's something I'm not totally sure about. Is this game's setting using the battle rules from vanilla Build Fighters, Beginning, or Try?

I ask because everyone seems to be using very high-spec MS which Try established as having ludicrous power drain (Crossbone in particular) but nobody seems to be particularly concerned with that IC.

Yeah I guess making it so a single unit can't just field all the high power stuff was kinda limiting, if necessary for the team setting. Also, I have to say there's like nothing to follow up on from your post. We drew lots and we're moving on to fighting, but we don't know who drew with who and your post didn't put us at the arena, so it's just gonna be a series of posts going "I follow teacher into arena too". IDK, I feel we can skip that and move on to actually setting the battles up already.

@clanjos Ok, i would like to call shenanigans on that paint scheme, it's listed nowhere in your gunpla's sheet. That and shortcuts are the shortening of any route by means of an alternate path. considering your gunpla by your own sheet's description "As an additional advantage, its thrusters are all pointed backward in Suit Mode- allowing it to use all its thrust to move forward quickly." would mean it was designed to go forwards quickly.

This would lead me to believe it has rather poor thrust vectoring and maneuvering when "point the rockets behind you and go" is your strategy. it would lead to rather sloppy and exaggerated maneuvering lines when changing directions. Kyo took the faster path available to them, maneuvering on the "inside" of your own exhaust trails, meaning less top speed, but also less distance to cover to catch up with the beetle.

I see it's completely okay to just make things up on the spot and edit them into the CS. Will keep in mind.

it wasnt made up on the spot look if you have a problem with it fine im sorry about that. I Dont mind new people joining in but remember stuff like this happens like in the anime it happens when it does which is what I was going for if that upsets you than im sorry. Though on a side note if you really want to complain about that than I can ask how a beam can bend to hit at angles unless they were on a swivel joint where they can go to those angles.

1. Yeah, I figured the radar-absorbent paint wouldn't matter because of all the easily detected Minovsky/Plavsky Particles flying around anyway.
2. Even if it DID matter, I don't see anything about thermal imaging on your sheet.
3. At no point did I say I was moving erratically or leaving "exhaust lines." We are in space. There is no exhaust trail. You're making that up and controlling my character's actions to give yourself an unfair advantage.
4. Your mech tanked pretty much the best damage my mech can put out (a relativistic dropkick) with a total damage of "some paint scratches" and now you're trying to say your mech is faster than the designated melee mech built for speed. What, exactly, is your mech NOT going to be automagically better than mine at?

I know similar things happen in the anime, but I just want to be clear on whether it's cool to just edit character sheets to add/reveal extra powers on convenience. Because that's kind of exactly what you did, you added that Sengoku Trace things a couple minutes after your post went up. I mean, in every other game I've been on, both in Roleplayerguild and other sites, a character sheet is what people use to establish what their characters can and cannot do. They're there to define abilities so someone can't just freely make new powers up on the spot and editing them to do so is rather frowned upon. It kind of defeats the purpose of having them in the first place.

So, I'm just asking straight up, because I like having the rules spelled out nice and clear: is this how the game is going to operate? Are we completely okay with editing CSes to add new abilities as convenient so long as a modicum of justification is given within an IC post? As for the beams, it's been there on the character sheet ever since I posted it close to a month ago: "Aside from the Hyper Mega Particle Gun, all of the machine’s body-mounted beam weapons have slightly flexible emitters, allowing for some degree of target tracking and a better variety of firing angles without having to move the entire body".

Not just that but the whole "12 beams are moving in from multiple directions into the Masurao's current position to make dodging way, way harder" was also mentioned in my first post. The CS says "slightly flexible joint" because I'm not going to use this to stretch around and shoot at the thing's back, but it's there clear to see. You approved it.

@clanjosi'm going based off of information given to me by you and your sheet. You said in suit mode all the thrusters were pointing backwards, meaning it could go forwards very quickly. that tells me it wasn't designed to be doing acrobatic loops, meaning you are better in straight lines than a twisting dog fight. You said yourself that it went forwards quickly and the direction every thruster was facing, which was back.

The very nature of physics means something that is moving in a direction carrying inertia like you're describing in space, means you need to rotate the whole gunpla and divert your thrust in the direction you want to go in, meaning it takes far more energy and a long burn to change your direction because you're going so fast. And with every thruster facing backwards, again, according to your words, you don't have anything killing forwards inertia so you're going to take a lot more to change direction to begin with than a suit that was designed for space/flying since they can control their direction to a far easier degree. You are not going to be pulling tight maneuvers with a setup like you have described.

You're lucky i even gave you the hit considering how you just took it without making it an attempt (power gaming). How the head is situated and the way the wings are, you have a great number of solid shields to get around, when you're trying to target something that small going at speeds which you're describing, your pilot must be a newtype.

As to the thermal camera, just like how you assumed radar absorbing paint wouldn't matter, i did the same thing with sensors, except sensors are standard on military machines where radar absorbing paint was not. we're piloting machines designed to fight in most if not all enviroments, to have the ability to view heat sources is invaluable for Gunpla. any sort of sensors like thermal cameras, night vision, motion, all would be standard on just about every gunpla.

@Zero HexYou bring up some good points and I do admit I was in the wrong. So I will accept that I was in the wrong as well. Beyond that I misunderstood that part but I can understand where your coming from so the beams can bend like that similar to the forbidden gundam from seed right?

And if you don't believe him, its mentioned in the show that Gunpla have a several different sensors inbuilt as part of the 'base systems'

case anybody's wondering.

yes, Suku gave the OK for the reason given for the revoking of the energy limit rule.

As well as several reasons (from the perspective of running the game, and Gundam Lore) why it wouldn't be possible to enforce if it was in place.

Nah, the beams are straight like normal. It's the emitters, the guns themselves, that are mounted on swivel joints so they have a range of motion, allowing them to track targets and "drag" the beams across areas without the machine itself moving.

Also
the then new rule really didn't have the effect they where looking for. Sure it curbed the 'spam massive amounts of particles to win' at lower levels, but at the national, and world levels it didn't change anything. Those fighters ether came up with new systems or changed load outs to make the energy limit as moot as possible

Except this contradicts the show? Lucas Nemesis was a top tier player and the limited energy rule was what made sure he couldn't just run rampant with his Crossbone Full Cloth going super fast, using a bunch extremely powerful weapons and having two i-field emitters to boot. Which is kind of what pretty much every unit here does, btw. His entire strategy had to take the limitations into account and use his teammates as resupply depots, and he essentially lost because he hinged his bets on being able to blitz a team before gassing out and couldn't pull through.

I mean, I understand that we're not using it because enforcing a reasonable level of particle drain and limitation would be a pain in the ass without a properly defined system. That's fine. But still, I feel this is trying to justify the change by actually contradicting the canon material rather than just saying something simple and workable like "yeah there's gonna be an old rules league and we're prepping you for that ahead of other people, feel privileged kids".
