100 B.C. (Before Cataclysm)

The world is prosperous, people are living in peace. The world hadn’t seen a war for the past hundred years after their new seemingly-immortal king took the throne. Cities grew bigger, families doubled in numbers, farms produced triple their yearly production. The seas were filled with boats bringing in fish that had grown in size apparently over night. The world finally seemed perfect, a heaven on earth; An Eden brought upon them by the mighty gods themselves. Little did they know that their king had chosen quite the dark path to make this all happen. Now keep in mind, the king wasn’t a bad man. He was an older gentleman, looking as if he was in his late fifties, a dedicated and humble servant of his people. He listened to their needs, and he loved each and every one of them with all his heart. He had even taken it upon himself to learn most of the names of the people living in his home city; Veiron. But when his dark past came to haunt him on the tenth hour of his hundredth year, everything was plunged into a darkness that would never seem to rise. The Demons broke free from their seal in his soul, and used it as passage into the crumbling Capital. The Demons, being greedy fiends, had taken the King’s soul fifty years ahead of time. Maybe it was because he sold his soul that they were able to see his work, his plans to get rid of the Demons once and for all. Nevertheless, they had immediately stopped him. Horrors were loose in the street, rampaging through stores and homes, tearing citizens apart from the inside with an insanity and hunger nobody had ever seen in their lifetime. The King laid burnt to a crisp in his chambers, his mouth open in a silent screech of pure agony, as if he knew everything was lost.

The whole city and it’s surroundings were scorched with unholy fire and even to this day nothing can grow there. Amongst the lucky few who made it out of the city alive some found that the event had marked them for life. A birthmark they’d never seen before, perhaps a scar, maybe their eyes changed color, or their skin turned black. Some of these people tried to hide their markings and did whatever they could to live on as if nothing had happened. Some embraced them, claiming that the mark would forever remind them of Veiron, and what the demons did there.

The immortal king’s last order was to form a new kind of army. The warriors, a band of highly trained and skilled fighters. Soon after Veiron fell a group of strong fighters took the name and now roam free, claiming to follow the last wish of the king. They care little for the lives of the innocent, their only goal is to exterminate the demons that terrorize the land. They are the only ones known to have killed a demon.

Present time.

We will follow the paths of a few brave men and women as they too will make a difference. Fighters, Mages, Assassins and Scholars. What lies ahead? No one knows. It is up to you to find out.

Available races:

So, this will be a game full of exploration and development. Apart from what is above this text there is no prepared story, no prepared events, locations, dialogues. Nothing. From now on we’re in uncharted territory. Each player can create their own story within this world, or travel with other players and create the world together. Halvtand and Vladhimir_Grimm will try to keep this thread updated with the descriptions that comes with the game. Normally it’s first come, first serve, but sometimes things needs to be discussed before they’re developed in-game. The GMs are here to settle these debates and try to find a middle road that makes everyone happy.

As such, the character is fine, but I think it starts out too powerful. Perhaps I should've held the OOC back until I could finish my own character for comparison. Have a look and try scaling Nianxi back to match him and you can consider yourself done.

Nerfed Nianxi a bit, especially making the sword not being at it's full cutting and healing potential in a hands of a relative novice. Also Touch of the Void starts more like an annoyance, not a mage killer. Hopefully, that's more than enough.

Also, since this IS develop-as-you-go, I do have some ideas (backstories) for the relic weapons of the Great Houses. And I seems Seth isn't a part of one of those 6 Great Houses, though it can be easily retconned still..

The character feels a lot better now. We'll wait for a few more people before we start.

Demons are as individual as humans. Some have no powers at all, while some can destroy the minds of mortals with a thought. The only real rule is that the older a demon gets, the more power it can wield. At the start we should barely be able to face imps (lesser demons)

Sorry, forgot about that one... You know what, this is a develop-as-you-go, so at which level would you like to have the tech?

None the less he was considered to be immensely gifted in the ways of both practices. He lead the troops, which he recruited himself with the help of his Machiavellian sword's abilities ( a gift from his mother and father on his 18th birthday), to each battle at the front, and returned victorious each time.
The pride of his life, however, was not his skill. But his wife Maria. They married at the age of 19 and 18 living a happy life together for the time being. However, the collapse of the kingdom took his wife driving him mad with anger and sorrow. He set off creating a band of mercenaries either skilled in martial combat or arcane magic. Krodin:
Over all a good character. Thos only thing I have a real problem with would.be the arcane crush, simply because it is a one-hit kill (and if I understand 'pure energy' right, undodgeable, unblockable). It just feels like too much power, too early in the game.

True. He has so many tricks at the begging compared to other characters. I mean, I did have to scale mine down, and mostly remove her special abilities early.

I'll fix arcane crush, I'll balance his spells per day an increase them as I go.

In my opinion, Rinic learning all that as the story progresses would be the best solution. Or anything else that doesn't let him have far more tools than any other character. After all, I did have to fix Nianxi just because of this.

The difference is that rinic's range of effectiveness lies only in combat, he's useless in everything else. He gets more spells per day as he becomes stronger, and once he's used them up, he can't use them anymore. He's only ever going to get one more spell and that'll be it. I've halved the number of spells per day he got, made arcane crush easy enough to dodge, and he only has a sword with assistance in persuasion that can deliver a minor shock with the right spell. His guantlets, only heal scratches after 20 minutes. Although, if you'd like me too, I'll get rid of 3 spells for later use you can choose.

Laue:
Just to be clear, the reason I wanted you to tone down your character was because you wanted to start out with, and I quote "Serilya, the Crimson Blade ... it is more powerful than any other sword currently known to exist." as well as "magical" armor and mage-killing magic. You toned your character down to a reasonable level, so no complaints about that, nut what Krodin has come up with is a totally different kind of character.

Krodin: I'd say you've sufficiently toned down the magic part of the character, but would you be offended if I suggenst you put some kind of visual effect on arcane crush? My big problem with it is that it can (if you choose to) be a one-hit kill with no chance to save. With a visual effect at least you can see it and (if two players would get in a fight) the opponent can choose wether or not to get hit by it.
One last thing and then you're set. If you could turn down your "immensely gifted" swordsmanship a notch? I'm half expecting you to become the leader of a warband here due to your sword, am I correct?

Of course these changes are not permanent, we will all grow stronger during the game, some might even become powerful enough to join the warriors and battle demons head on. This is just to start everyone off at about the same power level.

Most of my balancing in games comes from imagining the player characters fighting each other, and if one has a definite advantage, that guy needs tobe scaled back a bit. Of course, I'm open for discussion, so if you feel differently, be sure to let me know.

Name: Urisk Deilano

Gender: Male

Age: 23

Race: Human

Mark of the demon: His teeth are pointed but interlock normally, and his canine teeth are long enough to poke out over his bottom lips with his mouth closed

Profession: Witch

Appearance:
Bio: Born to a family of practicing witches, he had an innate talent for the art of witchcraft. His family was a coven of benign witches who helped the citizens of the village they lived in, healing them of disease and blessing them with good luck if they asked, charging only a small fee to be able to live on. When the purging of witches happened around the country, the villagers attempted to defend them from The Inquisitors when they arrived, explaining how they had done nothing but help them. The Inquisitors refused to listen, and went after his family anyway. Knowing that they were going to be taken away and killed with no means of escape seeing as they didn't know any magic to defend themselves with, they sent him to Veiron to live with his aunt at age 2.

He lived in Veiron with his aunt, secretly practicing witchcraft, unbeknownst to even his aunt. He slowly grew in skill, having to learn on his own seeing as any and all witchcraft tomes found were destroyed, seeing as witchcraft was still seen as the magic of the devil himself. Unlike mages, who were allowed to practice their magic in the open, witches were continually repressed. Many people saw it as a mage's magic was natural, but a witch's magic was often believed to come from a deal with the devil or a demon, or from dark and evil forces. Around the time he turned 23, the demons attacked Veiron, killing his aunt and everybody else he knew. Afterward he swore vengeance on the demon that killed his aunt, and vowed to find and destroy it.

Magic: General witchcraft including the following. (note, all the following require some kind of material to perform, so he won't be able to do almost any of these from the start. He will have to learn a lot as well, as he only knows limited amounts of each type as of now)
Doll Magic: A type of witchcraft in which dolls are used as effigies to represent a person or animal. The dolls are stuffed with various magical ingredients to achieve a desired effect on the target of the doll.
Circle Magic: Also known as magic Rites, these are rituals performed by a single witch or a coven of witches. These are usually more powerful than most spells, but are more difficult to cast and take time and effort to prepare.
Brewing: A well known skill of witches, brewing magical potions to different effects. Some are drunk, some are applied topically, and others are put into easily broken bottles to be thrown at targets to splash in an area.
Dream Weaving: Magic that allows the caster to manipulate the dreams of others, allowing them to have contact over long distances or for other purposes.
Infusion: A special type of Circle Magic that imbues an aspect of the world into a person, object, or animal, granting them powers related to the aspect.
Hexing: Another of a witch's most iconic types of magic, a spell that creates negative effects on a target, sometimes even fatal or highly debilitating.
Spellcasting: A talent only seen in some witches, the ability to cast certain spells like a mage. Unlike a mage however, it doesn't take the magical energy from their own reserves, but from reagents and the magical energy found in nature.
Strengths: Can cast powerful magic both in and out of combat, can protect himself in most situations just with magic. Able to provide the group with food by enthralling animals to kill.

Weaknesses: Cannot practice magic in public for fear of execution, has no skill whatsoever with melee weapons, magic takes time and materials to prepare, some of which are very hard to acquire, most magic isn't very helpful in direct combat, wears no armor.

Equipment: Staff, 3 small dolls for effigies, 2 herb pouches (currently with belladonna and ground mandrake root), 1 circle talisman, 2 taglock kits, 1 white arcane chalk, 1 golden arcane chalk, small bottle of holy water, 1 Athame.

Other: Gay, very insecure about some issues, easily embarrassed, warms up to people quickly. He is often afraid of people finding out he's a witch as well.

I totally see where you're coming from and ya, I meant to add a visual effect it's a purple sphere. His natural gift I probably should've gone into it deeper, he is only good against other swordsman or dagger to dagger combat. Otherwise if is sword to spear, Kama, shurikin, whip, axe it doesn't matter. He's below average, and frankly kind of clumsy. When he goes up against a swor he experiences a mind set known as segukin. It heightens his senses, not supernaturally, but he is super concentrated and can see a move coming a mile away. He's determined to be the greatest swordsman in exsistance so he hasn't put time into other weapons.

Also ya, I've been thinking about heading that way.
