The brisk, wild wind rattle the cable - like rope. It was sturdy, and crossing ravines was something they had done many times before, but this, this was different. Spears of ice rose up like arrows, piercing the dull, grey sky, intimidating the group, and at the bottom of the ravine, death awaited them, ready to take them from what was left of the world. The first to go across was a tall, slender man, trembling with fear. His skin went pale, and the hair on his back rose, giving him a prickling sensation. His hands trembled as he grasped the rope, and let his body dangle over the ravine. Inch by inch he made his way across the rope. His hands trembled, a little to much, and he lost his grip, falling into the dark abyss with a scream.
He was up next. As leader of the group, he showed boldness, and strength, but under the tough shell, was a spark of fear, that he wouldn't let evolve into a surge of it. He was more experienced, and went on hands and knees, almost inchworming across. The end of the gorge was close, but to him, it was farther. Almost. A little fartner. He was relieved when he felt the cold of the snow and ice shroud his hands. He scurried to the snow, and scrambled up, wiping the powdery substance of his clothes. He looked across at the others, who were now making their way across.
