Name: Meliae
Race (Human or Type of Fae): Wood Nymph
Position (In court if you are a fae, Any fae outside of a court will be under extreme pressure): She's the Lady of Taiga of the Summer Court.
Age: Unknown
Personality (Fae type has effect): Some say she should be of the fall or winter court, for there are rumors of her ruthlessness. While she does have her moments, especially when unsuspecting humans find their way into the deepest parts of her woods, she reserves her true wrath on the ones who thinks they can take her forest from her. Otherwise she is serene, and even tempered. She enjoys life, and all that it brings.
Appearance: If she ever puts on a glamour(which she so rarely does), her skin and hair and eyes are the color of her bark. To match current time, she'll usually wear a green sleeveless blouse, a dark fur coat, dark jeans, and black boots. Otherwise, she's either an Ash tree, or in her Fae form, she's green with ivy climbing her body.
Background: Not much is known about Meliae, except that she's inhabited and ruled the Taiga forests for as long as most can remember. Even after she gave up North America, she still rules over the largest forest in the world. She doesn't come to court except when it's required of her, and holds her own court within the deepest parts of the Taiga forests.

Woops! I forgot! I mentioned the "Greater Courts" before, and ignored the "Lesser Courts". The greater courts are the Seelie/Unseelie and Season courts. They are first and foremost among the fae, but every king baron/knight/lord has a smaller ring of fae called a Lesser Court- with the highest ranking member in charge of keeps those specific fae in line, as part of their House/Dominion. much like English lords and Vassals or Serfs.

In example, a Kings lesser court would comprise of all the nobles elders and chosen warriors, Were as a Barons lesser court would have all of his kin, and those loyal to his family due to debt promises or domination.

So like a king/queen of a lesser court is like king/queen of a specific fae race? I.E. King of the goblins, queen of the leprechauns...?

@Kaalee EEEEEH.... Imma do some lore hopping but I think theres a few holes in that char design- but I like the connection between ruthlessness and Summer. We didn't mention it, but summer can be just as wrathful, perhaps even Worse than winter, when it comes to defending themselves their belongings, or if they just decide your Ugly and don't deserve to exist... Yeah that's a thing.

Why bother using titles at all if we're just going to mangle them and reduce them to aesthetics? I'm only trying to make a point; we are using English titles, we could at least try to use them properly.

In any case, I'll be drafting up my Ent King in a few hours.

@Emma Not quite the same subject- But THAT is an excellent point to bring up, The strongest of any one particular race is called first and foremost as "The Elder (fill in the blank)",except in court which then they are called (you guessed it) Barons/Knights/Lords, as they earned the title simply by Living. Most of the Elder Fae form their OWN court called "The Court of Elders" They dictate Fae Law, and Ignore the rules of the season and seelie courts- and in most parts are forbidden from helping the other courts.

In short: The Court of Elders are the ones that hunt you down, slaughter you mercilessly enslave and forcibly adopt your children, and or eat them if you so much as even THINK about breaking a promise, Theft, murder, or revealing Fae existence to Humans En masse; Along with pretty much whatever else they find offensive or unacceptable. And the kicker? even the Kings and Queens have to listen to them, as the Court of Elders are The most Powerful- Usually being (By Far) the oldest.

It's honestly not a big deal, but it bothers me as this is my subject of professional study.

I am curious now, though: what is your source for your interpretation of these myths? How you're describing it, it sounds like you're drawing all of this from a single document, which apparently we cannot diverge from whatsoever. I realize this probably isn't the case, but it is my perception of the situation.

I have an amazing idea for my character, possibly and elder. I am basing her off a specific person/goddess though. Marzanna. What would I classify her race as? Deity, demon, Psychopomps, Nightmare, Spectre, Death, Reaper, Baku, Alp, Banshee, Succubus...? idk

I'm still looking for this "given Lore" of specific, modern-english noble titles being used to describe faerie rankings, in a source from the late fifth century (by your own specifications).

I really do want to know what your reference is. Please, I would greatly appreciate a link, or even just a title and author.

Furthermore, I don't understand how one source could be seen as more reliable than another; every account is fictitious, and therefore all sources should be equal.

I'd call her a daemon; it strikes a sort of middle ground between the ideal of a classical deity and a lesser spirit, and they are the figures from which post-classical European faerie myths were derived.

Yes i would say Daemons Exist, but i would argue against them being 'Fae' Daemons are more of a 'divine' being, and thus aren't the same thing.

The closest two there would be Witch (due to the relation to Baba Yaga) and Banshees. Though Banshees are locked to winter due to being a form of spirit, and Unintentionally being evil. (The show "Lost Girl" would argue that Succubi are Fae, but the idea of a Succubus is a DEMON that feeds on Sexual Energy and Lust, Demons, are not fae, due to being a Divine being. but then Greek mythology could argue that Nymphs, being the daughters of gods and most fae-like beings being the offspring of gods and nymphs or some odd formation there-of that fae are in their own right divine as well, And the Arthurian tales hint at this as well, so ill leave this one to Runic. In short, Runic, Demons angels and other divinity 'kerfluffle' = Fae?)

Name: Rúnlauf, the Wise

Race: Rowan Ent

Position: Esteemed King of the Spring Court

Age: Rúnlauf has long since lost count of his years, but his rings were many before the first cities of Man rose up from the riverlands, more than twenty-thousand winters ago at least by half.

Personality: As his epithet may suggest, Rúnlauf is known amongst both the Seelie and Unseelie courts for his incredible patience, wisdom and experience. An ancient being beyond compare, Rúnlauf is ponderous and deliberate in all things, and does not so much as speak a single word that is not true to his heart and pure intention. Simple of heart and generous of spirit, the Eldest Ent cares for all living things in this world, and has the capacity to see beyond the trivialities that cloud the judgement of his younger subjects. While he is quick to dispense with his teachings and worldly experience, his aphorisms and lessons often have their meanings hidden or muddled by Rúnlauf's vast expanses of memories and knowledge, and their value is usually not readily apparent. Rúnlauf appears to be in a perpetual state of bemused tranquility, and few living fae can claim to have seen him upset. Such is his temperament that he sees meaning and purpose in all things, and almost nothing can come to truly disturb him.

Appearance: A massive being, particularly when compared to the normally diminutive fae, Rúnlauf wears his years proudly. His grey-brown bark is gnarled and knotted, particularly where it forms his face, shaping his knobby, wizened features. His legs and knees are marked by the axes of Dwarves, and heavy roots burrow into the ground beneath his seven-toed feet. Tremendous branches sprout from his back, head and shoulders, where they grow into a lush verdancy of leaves and ripe, red berries and flowers. Eyes as red as cardinal feathers sit deeply in his wooden face, their gaze piercing, but kind. A tremendous beard of moss and lichen runs from the cork of Rúnlauf's chin, and trails down to rest in his lap. Lesser, smaller creatures and fae makes homes in Rúnlauf's bark and branches; birds and small pixies flit about and nest above his head, and small rodents and dryads live in the thick trunks of his legs.

Background: Ancient even among the Ent, Rúnlauf's earliest memories are vague recollections of the world in its purest, most primal state. The Ent cared for the forests, and the forests sheltered the Ent. The fae came later, bringing reason, order, and civilization to the world. Of course, as those things emerged where there was none before, they too brought unreason, chaos and incivility. The Ent paid little mind, as they were still content to tend the forests as they always had. The elves took notice of the Tree Giants, and looked up to them as the eldest defenders of the natural world. The elves taught the Ent to speak, and gave them names, as they were so insistent on doing to everything they saw.

But as the Ent became closer to the fae, they became more deeply involved in their conflicts. The fae warred against each other ceaselessly, and the Ent were caught in the crossfire, trying to their last to defend their forests. Later came Men, who as well took axe to the grand forests, and many Ent fell to their blows as well. Rúnlauf, named by an elf that came and died before he took notice of him, came to be eldest among his people after the felling of Yggdrasil, the grand elder, by the barbarous northmen. With the mighty magic of the primal wilds, Rúnlauf drove the Men from his sacred forests, and rooted himself as the fiercest defender of the trees. Impressed by his determination in such harrowing times, the Spring Court convened about Rúnlauf, and so he was instated as their ruler.

Years and peace have mellowed the once-fierce Rúnlauf, and he now lives to protect and guide the fae court that follows him. Having borne many a seedling over his countless years, Rúnlauf has by far lost count of his natural children, and considers all of his Spring subjects to be his children, looking after them as a protective ancestor. Possibly the oldest being known to the fae, Rúnlauf is revered by both the Seelie and Unseelie courts for his prowess in the mystic arts, his legendary might in battle, and his nigh-inexhaustible wisdom. Even the fleeting rulers of the "superior" Summer Court have at times bent the knee to the Eldest Ent to seek his guidance in troubled times. Though his reputation is fearsome, Rúnlauf has gone to root (literally) in the most recent centuries, and has not so much as left his throne in the Spring Court in recent memory. The Spring Court is run mostly below his notice, his lesser regents and advisors handling the affairs of the Court in truth, as Rúnlauf looks after the Court overall and guides its growth, slowly and gradually.

Even so, Rúnlauf grows uneasy in recent years. As he spends the Unseelie months asleep on his throne, the winds of winter whisper secrets to his runed leaves, and he divines the future in his dreams. Dark times loom ahead; nightmares plague Rúnlauf, as the wind whispers of war unending among the fae courts.
