Seriously, if Metz can't hit your character with the element of surprise on his side and a circle that big, this fight is pointless, his attacks just aren't fast enough.

Your character had to spot the circle, guess exactly what it meant, and run from the middle of a thirty foot platform to the end in probably less than a second to escape that safely.

@Skallagrim Normally I wouldn't call a ruling on a dodge, but I just can't accept this one on the grounds of how unrealistic it is, DJ made no mention of Daniel making any observation what-so-ever of the Stone Cylinder being formed that might possibly have given his character an inclination as to how Metz' powers work, so for his character to go from literally eagle-eyed observation of the stone pillar in the middle of the platform to noticing a glowing red line on the outside of the platform and instantly summarising he had to run away is far-fetched enough, even with all that in mind I'm not sure his character should be fast enough to escape the fire, as it had to cover 60 feet in a second as per my character's ability it would be up to thirty feet high in half a second, not to mention the fact that the fire is spreading from every part of the ground outside the stone pillar and inside the platform, not just the outside.

As for the delay between the circle appearing and the fire being manifested, it's almost instantaneous in this scenario, so spotting the circle and avoiding the flame when you're -already inside- the circle, is next to impossible for an ordinary grounded opponent.

I just surmised his logic would've been along the lines of red equals danger I should not be here. Acting on instinct instead of instantly guessing what his opponent could do. Wouldn't you run away from something that's glowing red and looks like it's about to explode too?

Plus admittedly I read your post again and it is quite vague on how much time passed between your dude expanding the circle and the spell being activated.

I'm okay with taking the hit though.

Anyway, hopefully Skallagrim will have a ruling for us soon and I'll be able to post again today, that should tide us over if I'm unable to post for a while.

Never investigate the rock pillar.

I doubt it will be that severe, ultimately my character's main abilities rely on a lot of factors, his elemental attacks will be nearly useless now as your character will be able to summarise a lot about how they work if you're smart about his observations.

I am going to actually allow DJ to see the red glow on the edge. It would be something that stands out. I won't allow him covering the distance required to avoid the fire wall. It won't burn you as much as hoped because of the ice. However, it will create a steaming effect that can damage you. Regardless of the damaging factor, steam or fire, you do have to take some damage. More than just a singed tail.

You will have to rewrite the post to mention the increased damage taken by your running dodge.

The stone statues are over a hundred feet tall, so unless your character fell a good forty feet to the floor a sixty foot high wave of fire wouldn't have hit the ceiling.

I think Skallagrim should probably have control of when the ash falls, as it obviously benefits your character significantly.
