Raelis Vaerkturian – Champion of Rhay
Name: Raelis Vaerkturian.
Nickname/Alias: Knight of Rhay; Champion of Rhay; Holder of the Light.
Gender: Male.
Age: 62 (Asarae age much slower. He's considered middle aged).
Age Appearance: 26.
Race: Asarae.
Character Tier: Intermediate.
Character Type: Critical Character and/or Active Multiverse Participant.
Random descriptors: Raelis stands at 6' 3” and, with his armor, weighs a total of 412 lbs, including his armor. His armor on its lonesome weighs 45 lbs, whereas his personal weight is about 320 lbs due to his wings, muscle mass, and height. The weaponized armor on his wings weighs 50 lbs, whereas his blade weighs 10 lbs. His armor weighs 70 lbs on its own.
Physical Description: While essentially humanoid in appearance, Asarae possess avian features, such as feathers, instead of hair, in addition to retractable talons on their feet and hands. While they do not have tails like birds, they do have an array of feathers on their legs and feet that assist in flight. Asarae warriors are instead equipped with some form of device, armament, or otherwise object that allows them to fly without the feathers on their legs being exposed. His facial features are also more 'avian' causing them to be more angular. Raelis' eyes, like all Asarae, glow, and due to his hood they seem like burning embers in the darkness. His eyes in particular are magnificent, as they glow more than two colors in each eye, which is a mutation that is rather rare on Asara. This makes Raelis' eyes appear as if they are flickering flames as they almost seem to shift and coalesce between reds, oranges, blues, and golds.
Personality Description: Possessing a sharp mind and a strong sense of purpose, Raelis is an unshakable individual. Having developed high confidence in his own skills and the capabilities of his own race, Raelis is typically capable of judging whether or not he can face against someone and win almost by a mere glance or short scuffle. His long life has sculpted him to be careful, rather than reckless, though he understands that taking chances is sometimes the only way to come out victorious. Crafty at times, Raelis can sometimes seem mysterious due to his ability to hide who he truly is so as to throw off his opponent.
He is easily angered, but contrary to what one might think, his anger is not typically fiery. Instead his anger, which is something he channels, allows him to become cold and focused. Highly observant, but not one to overthink, Raelis loves to pick apart the inner workings of his foe's psychology and then use it to predict and tear down their defenses brick by brick. While Raelis is an upstanding example of his own race, he does not necessarily fit into the norms of others and as such can sometimes appear to have a rather dark sense of humor. Due to the calculating nature of the Asarae, Raelis is both an analytical individual, but also a fiery paladin with solid, but non-human, ideals.
He follows the way of the star, burning up the fuel that the universe provides him so as to prolong his own livelihood. Nonetheless he inspires those who are not incinerated by his voracious appetite, allowing others to benefit from the heat and light that is the inferno of his raging ambition. In this way he is very much a Knight of Rhay, as he represents the same ideals that it does, though in the star's case it is in a more symbolic way, rather than literal.
Character History: Born on the planet of Asara in the Rhay solar system, Raelis was raised into a family of warriors. Raised by his mother, and trained by both parents, the young Raelis came to love combat, and the tactical awareness related to it. Even as a young boy Raelis loved to sneak out, find a sword-like object, and practice in secret. Well, he thought it was a secret, his father knew, and watched with a small smile on his face.
As he grew in age, his interest grew as well until his parents decided to enroll him in the Institute of Rhay, where they led younglings into adulthood and trained them for their preferred profession. In Raelis' case, that profession was warrior.
For years he toiled in the Institute, learning and growing, becoming the warrior he had surely dreamt of becoming as a youngling. He became a young man, and at the age of 34 his race gained knowledge of the Multiversal gates that had recently opened. Intrigued by this, though not allowed much information, the budding Knight began to challenge his betters, as this was one method that an individual could gain renown and status.
He did not always win his battles, but he never ceased to try and after many years he became well known. His word, in some situations, could be considered law, and eventually, as one of Asara's esteemed warriors, he was made privy to the information regarding the multiverse. While he had been hardened, and changed, by the many battles he had faced –and the assassins who had made attempts on his life-- a smile spread across his face and new curiosity was kindled within him. He could travel between realities, facing whomever he pleased. All he needed was to become the champion of his race.
So he did. It took him the rest of his life thus far, but he became so well known that everyone on the planet recognized his might. His societal victory was just in time too, as their warp gate technology had recently come out of its experimental stages, becoming available to those with the proper status, or funds, to obtain them. As such he set out to begin his journey of conquest, for while he had no intention to conquer the Multiverse, he certainly intended to fully sample the 'verse's many combatants. It would surely be an interesting adventure, this was for sure.

Asaraen Physiology[Intermediate]: As a being who grew up on a planet similar to earth, but with a heightened gravity due to mass, Raelis is particularly impressive in the area of physical skills. He is capable of lifting six times his own body weight and can run at 80 mph and can accelerate from a stationary position to 10 mph in the space of a few seconds, if he does this in bursts, but does not stop moving, he can reach up to 40 mph in a very short period of time. His flight speed, on the other hand, is fairly impressive. Due to the gravity on his planet being higher than on earth his bones are actually denser than a humans as well as having a specialized structure allowing them to better distribute force that is applied outwardly, though they will break if hit in a more focused matter. An Asarae's eyesight is inherently better than that of a human's allowing them to zoom in and out, as well as to follow things that are moving faster than most humans can follow. This is due to them having evolved from a more avian ancestors and do to time they have not yet lost these qualities. It should be noted that Asarae have excellent night vision. This is facilitated by two functions, first is the fact that the eyes of an Asarae will actually trap light within them, as well as emitting a small amount of the Light of the Devene thus causing their eyes to glow. The color of this glow depends on the individual and it will grow depending on how dark it is. Their pupils are also capable of changing size, much like a cat's, allowing them to receive more or less light depending on what is required at the time. Due to his impressive attunement with Rhay, their star, and the Light of Devene, Raelis' eyes can glow so brightly that they could light up the space around him for up to 10 meters. Last, but not least, the average Asarae can withstand roughly 50 degrees of heat directly on their skin, but will not be burned instantly until it hits 80. Raelis on the other hand has grown a tolerance for heat due to his use of the Light, this allows him to withstand up to 100 degrees of heat before it will burn him; he is burned instantly at 120 degrees. He can lift a maximum of 2,475 lbs (6 times his current weight).
Flight and Aerial-Terrestrial Combat[Low or Intermediate]: Due to his wings and supplementary magic—though he can fly just fine without his armor—Raelis is capable of flight and as such has learned how to fight on the ground and in the air. Additionally, Raelis has learned to use his wings to alter his orientation, speed, and weight distribution whilst still on the ground. He can even use his wings to increase his jumping height in addition to other factors. Raelis is capable of flying at an average of 80-200 mph, with his maximum (in dive) being the speed of sound (761 mph). He is capable of rapidly changing his direction as well as accelerating to roughly 60 mph in a matter of seconds, allowing him to quickly make distance. In fact, a single flap of his wings, whilst jumping, can send him hurtling back anywhere between 20 and 100 meters depending on the angle of the wings and the height of the jump. With skill he can do this in reverse, making him able to achieve a sort of 'rush' towards an enemy. It should be noted that his wings are capable of pushing forth enough air to blast someone back if their footing is not sound or their weight not sufficient to hold them down.
Light of the Devene[Intermediate]: Pronounced “Divine,” by humans and many other races, the Art of the Devene is a form of manipulation that all Asarae are capable of, though few choose to fully master and utilize it. Most common among the warrior class, Devene is an Art that manipulates light, though not in the way most think. The Light of Devene, as it is often called on Asara, allows its wielder to channel light, and the heat it produces, through objects or substances that they have some measure of contact or control of. Raelis is not particularly skilled with this ability, but is capable of channeling it through his armor, his body, and his sword respectively—including that which is linked with such. The properties of this magic are, in short, the ability to generate a light, as well as heat. The light also has a 'divine' or holy aspect, allowing it to burn away darkness and corruption. This light, due to its constant emanation from Raelis' attire, actually protects him somewhat from magical manipulation, making it more difficult for individuals to effect his already steadfast mind. In terms of how hot this heat can get, well that depends on the amount of heat the user can handle in their vicinity, or how much heat the light can gain as it moves towards its opponent. This brings up an important point, the longer that the Light is manifested, and as long as its user does not stymie the process, the Light will raise steadily in temperature over time. This process does not require additional energy, but it does seem to cause the area to become darker and darker as time goes on.
Swordsman of Asara[Intermediate]: While his physical strength would at first appear to be his advantage in the art of the sword, it would soon become apparent that he is a skilled swordsman not because of his strength, but due to his experience and wide scope of battle knowledge. Raelis has fought in many environments, on multiple planets, and is thus capable of quite a bit. This coupled with his wings, supplementary magic, and increased physical attributes makes him a formidable opponent capable of cutting thin iron, as well as doing a fair amount of damage to his foes. He is dextrous and flexible, as his armor, while similar in nature to iron, is quite malleable due to its enchantments.

He is dextrous and flexible, as his armor, while similar in nature to iron, is quite malleable due to its enchantments.
Asaraen Armor[Intermediate]: Composed mostly of iron, Raelis' armor is fairly normal in regards to what is worn by Asaraen warriors. Interestingly enough, Raelis has altered his own through the continued utilization of Devene Light through its form. As such, his armor has become particularly flexible, retaining malleable, almost clay or leather-like, properties so as to mould to his movement. On the other hand, the armor maintains a constant heat, causing it to emanate a soft light and a gentle warmth. This makes it appear as if Raelis is constantly glowing and emitting holy light. While it maintains this malleable quality, the armor's ability to defend Raelis' body is maintained, as it will harden before making contact with objects which mean to harm its wearer. Most think it is magic that does this, but in truth it is technology. Microscopic nanobot cameras dwell within his armor, as they do in all Asaraen armor. These nanobots detect possible threats, calculate the variables, and reharden the armor in response, but only when necessary. This includes environmental threats, so it is not reserved purely for his enemies, but also for things non-weapon or inanimate things that might harm. Hs gauntlets are capable of opening around the fingertips, allowing his talons to emerge and be used as weapons. This armor is insulated where it comes into contact with his body, so as to diffuse the high temperatures it can reach, the maximum temperature before the insulation begins to fail is between 200 and 300 degrees fahrenheit. The armor has a ventilation system that activates at 150 degrees, where it can cool the armor back down to its normal temperature in the space of 3-4 minutes. This ventilation system will also slow the speed that the heat will conduct through to the deeper layers of the armor, thus protecting its wearer. To compensate for the temperatures that the blade of Rhay can reach, his gauntlets have been made with an alloy that is a mixture of the material that the blade is made out of, and the material that composes the rest of his armor. This allows his gauntleted hands to withstand 400 degrees, though his hands will feel stiffled within and he will be more and more uncomfortable. While his gauntlets can handle a higher temperature than the rest of his armor, this does not mean that his other armor can handle coming into contact with the gauntlets. To help alleviate, but not remove, this problem, the gauntlets have an exceptionally good ventilation system, which can cool them from 400 degrees in record time (8 posts). The armor (not including gauntlets or wings) will begin to melt at roughly 600 degrees, while the gauntlets will begin to melt at 1000. It should be noted that, while not visible, Raelis is wearing a sort of helm.
Maelstrom[Intermediate-High]: Custom made for him, Maelstrom is what one could consider an enchanted object, as it is a series of magnetically linked plates that cover both his wings. These plates all have bladed edges that are as capable of shearing flesh as any bladed weapon. While they are magnetically bonded, they are also bonded together by being melted slightly by the Light of Devene, meaning that they will not fall off if something disrupts the magnetism connecting them. Like the rest of his armor, Maelstrom possess nanobot cameras. However, these serve a dual purpose here. While they still heat or cool the metal, they also make sure it does not damage his wing in addition to being able to focus the heat on the bladed edges of the armor, allowing them to burn and cut through objects, not to mention people, more smoothly. Lastly, this armor contains pores which pull in and trap air, storing it within the plates. This air is pulled in when the wing is moved and it facilitates both an offensive attack and an essential function: Flight. Without this particular ability, Raelis would be incapable of flight while equipped with his armor. In addition to these more scientific traits, Maelstrom has been enchanted, allowing it to not only store wind with technology, but also to control the wind in a 8 meter radius of Raelis' body. This process is controlled by Raelis due to him being in direct contact with the armor. The armor is insulated in the areas directly in contact with his wing, thus allowing it to reach a maximum temperature of 350 degrees before the insulation will begin to fail. The reason Maelstrom can reach higher temperatures than Raelis' armor is due to the fact that its ventilation system is far more effective, which is a direct result of its air storage. At any time, Raelis is capable of removing Maelstrom simply by willing it so, and while there is a slight delay, upon willing it the magnetic polarity of the armor will become the same, repelling it from his body rapidly. There is a metal lining on the bone of his wing that allows him to pull Maelstrom back to his wing, but it will take a good while (anywhere between 5 and 10 posts) to properly reassemble the armor onto his wing, despite the fact that he does not have to monitor the process. The armor cannot be reapplied until it has cooled down to a sage temperature of 100 degrees (takes anywhere between 4-6 posts depending on the temp). This armor will begin to melt at 650 degrees.
Blade of Rhay[Intermediate]: A weapon named after their solar system's star, Rhay, the blade of Rhay is exceptionally conductive of heat and is made from unknown materials. This weapon is especially dense, which is what attributes to its odd weight. Due to its conductivity, the blade is more effective than most weapons when it comes to cutting, but is oddly less effective in terms of piercing attacks utilizing its point. The hilt acts as a grounding agent, allowing any conducted electrical or heat energy to diffuse and never reach the hand of its wielder, thus protecting them. There is however a single thin strip of metal that is in the very center of the handle, which allows the user to channel their power through the blade. It is this strip of metal that allows Raelis to properly utilize the Light of Devene in tangent with his blade. This blade is depicted in his reference picture. The Blade of Rhay can withstand astronomical amounts of heat, seeming to be entirely unaffected by it, other than the fact that it will heat up along the edge(s), or areas, that the user wishes it to. Additionally, the blade is capable of reacting to the Light of Devene much faster than other objects, allowing it to reach incredibly high temperatures at astounding speeds. It should be noted, that once the blade's temperature exceeds 200 degrees that it will become increasingly more difficult for its hilt to properly diffuse the heat and stop it from reaching Raelis' hand. The Blade of Rhay can reach 80 degrees in a short amount of time (1 post) and can do so continuously almost indefinitely provided that Raelis still has the energy for it, that it maintains exposure to the Light, and that Raelis does not stop the process prematurely. The blade can cool at a rate of 50 degrees every 30 seconds (1 post).
Cloak of Air[Intermediate]: This hood and cloak is worn by Asarae who are sent off planet. This cloak transmutes their Devene into breathable air as well as changing what would be poisonous atmospheres into breathable air. If damaged the cloak will repair itself by gathering surrounding chemical elements and altering their electron amount utilizing the Light of Devene. This process can go at alarming rates, especially if he is in motion, or assists it. The hood of this cloak, in tangent with Maelstrom, is capable of diverting heated air away from him so as to not breath it in and cause considerable damage. The space within Raelis' helm, as long as it is beneath his hood, is significantly colder and will actually drop in temperature upon the cloak detecting heat. This stops him from inhaling the heat that emanates from the Light of Devene.
Eriinn[Intermediate]: A small ship used to travel through space. It is a common ship and is not equipped with any weapons, though it is capable of becoming completely invisible. Used solely for interplanetary and inter-solar travel unless its spatial warp engine is active, upon which time it can detect and transport itself to any multiversal gate in the area. It cannot travel through them with its engine on, but once it is near them it can simply fly through.
