I think, If we were to do that, whoever is controlling the humans would have to do it from a particular soldiers or generals perspective or perspectives. That would admittedly block their standard issue weaponry for a couple shots as they don't completely blow through someone in most cases besides those with upgraded versions or close range. It would be weird for a monster to strategize like that though. If he has sentience to plan then he'd be called a race in my setting but some beings do blur the line.
I could have more "lead character" red shirts, like around three of them who are better fighters and more important while the others true to their namesake. They are ship crewmembers so don't follow a general and there's only 30 or so total. Humans are a common race but only for an individual race. In the massive pool of races they don't make up that large of a percentage like in star wars
We can start a thread for all planned battles and have a [planned] tag in the title so they know.
