So, while each of our characters (usually) have a name that can be deciphered from their behaviors/backstory/plans for the future, what can NOT be easily deciphered, is the meaning or the backstory of how we are named as we are!

Granted, there's probably going to be a character name version of this thread at some point.

And...I might as well start.

Kimiyosis....was actually me taking the online name of the person who introduced me to Internet gaming, and hammering at the keyboard until the added extras gave that name a unique sound.

Thought I do use Nyanpasu/Nanodesu just as often, but those don't count

When I was a teenager making a Runescape account, I thought it would be funny to be the "Village Idiot" while everyone else was trying too hard with bad ass names. "Vilageidiotx" is the result of all the other iterations I tried being taken.

@Vilageidiotx Huh. Strangely enough, my first foray into forum roleplaying was on the runescape forums about 9 years ago. I didn't use this name back then though.

OfficerHeadbutt's a relatively new name for me to use. It comes from playing Hitman with a friend one day, getting bored and sticking on a police officer costume and headbutting people.

Engel is one of my favourite songs by Rammstein. I like how it means the opposite of what one would think at first in that context. It's fairly recent though. I go by a unique name on most other sites, but started changing that when I realized it might be too unique and good as most search results on it was me.

BillSomething is a variation on BillTheSomething a name i came up with originally when me and a few friends was going to start a Let's Play channel and also i got the idea because how common it is for a usernames to have "The" in it for example "Derrick the demon king", so i thought it would have been funny to be Simply called BillTheSomething. while the gaming channel never happened the name is something i always use when i have the chance (its even become sort of a nickname in Real Life)

I used to go by the moniker "The Taunter[2]" back when I played Runescape during my highschool days. That being because I was a fan of Monty Python and I originally wanted to be "The French Taunter", but I didn't want to be thought of as French. But it was too long anyways.

Later, I went under the username "Dandelo" after a character from Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series. In fact: a part of my name now is an artifact from that. But more on that later.

About around the time I got into Spore I registered with my regular Email and assigned myself the generic username "AaronMK". Which is suffice to say: my name and initials. I didn't imagine back then I'd get anywhere under that name, but I did. Eventually I resigned myself to using that name more regularly across YouTube and even on into my DeviantArt. More so as a familiar way to identify myself to people from the Spore community when I followed them elsewhere. It also became a familiar name I feel and has followed me for years since.

This current iteration falls back on the Dark Tower series. I have time and again utilized the title "Dihn" as a reference to the story. In that world, "Dihn" is the word used to describe someone as a lord or as an honorific such as "sir". So every-time you call me Dinh you're referring to me by the fantasy term as "Sir" or "Lord", which is always amusing.

It's also a Vietnamese name and after some reshuffling with the letters and adding one or two more it's a Persian woman's name; but that's besides the fact. The thing is now it's become my regular screen name. It's probably dangerous, but I feel I have enough lacking.

Back when I was on the Electronic Arts UK forum I was known there as the user 'Nutter'. Now Nutter is actually my name (no, not nickname, ACTUAL name) so it only felt right that I use that as an online alias too. The problem however is that the name Nutter tends to be used up on some of the sites that I end up joining, so I needed an alternative that was similar but available, something that summed up myself in a line, and something that didn't incorporate numbers, dashes or l33t spk. One of my mates suggested that I should change it to "Nuts and Bolts" since I'm a bit hands on with building and mechanical like stuff, so I took that suggestion on board and condensed it down to NuttsnBolts.

Didn't want to spend hours thinking up of a clever/witty/badass username, so I generated a bunch of random usernames starting with "L" and slightly modified the one that I liked the most. My only regret is that people somehow get confused when trying to pronounce it.

My username here is an amalgamation of an rp character a gaming tag I go by and me taking the word crimson shortening it to Crim and then adding Bloodroad which I honestly thought sounded cool

[The Harbinger of Ferocity]

The Harbinger of Ferocity is not so much a name as it is an assumed title, as it derives from a few sources, but in majority because it derives from my love of fierce, savage, animal things - particularly large predatory cats, of which are outright legendary for their relentlessness and ferocity, with the tiger being the most iconic of these virtues.

I took it on as a name on the Guild to better accentuate and differentiate my sort of approach and archetype.

I got this name from my first RP character I made in my old WoW days it was originally Nallore Starfire, though I thought it was to big so I just ended up going with Nallore and since then its just been stuck with me. Good old times before I went over onto forum RP, I need to get back into WoW again though all my old RP buddies have moved on since then sadly.

I have no fucking idea what went through my mind when I thought this up.

Although this led to confusion and hilarity whenever people used that adverb at the start of a sentence, which led to me jumping in and saying "You called?".

[Alamantus]

Man, I've had Alamantus for years. I had drawn this map of a fantasy country in like 8th grade and decided on the name "Alamantus" as the name of the king for some reason. I guess I just thought it sounded cool, and I stuck with it pretty much ever since.

Eventually I developed my Zirka conlang, and I gave the word "alamant" the meaning "(adjective) broken, but being rebuilt into something better than before" (kinda like Kintsugi but better, I guess?) and then the suffix "-us" that attaches to adjectives and means "one who is". So in all, "Alamantus" means "someone who is broken, but is being rebuilt into something better than before". So deep 'n stuff.

It's from an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 which I watched on Sci-Fi as a kid and rediscovered after I grew up, only to see that it was even better as an adult.

The movie they showed on one of the episodes was called The Thing That Couldn't Die, and it was about a head that wasn't dead. The main character had an aunt named Flavia, who was screechy and had a silly accent. The name just popped into my head when I was making the account on the old guild.

My username which is my primary user name came about after thinking you know what, I bet two hundred other people have the same username. I went through Demon to some other stuff I don't actually remember, I thought if I make it personal then no one would really use it other then me. So my username comes from apart of my first name so 'Roy' and the last part from the word 'Bazooka' making the combo 'Royzooka'. I do however have two other user names which I use less which is Exodus_Knight and GetJinxed (Reason is pretty clear :p).
