About This World
City’s Division of Power
The Mafia
New Dawn’s Mafia is currently run by a man who goes by the name Mauriello; a man who rose into power shortly after the opening of The Rift. Since then, the Mafia has done pretty well for itself considering no one has the guts to go against all Supers which the mafia employs. They commit typical mafia crimes such as giving “protection” to those who pay a fee, controlling drugs and prostitution, and bribing cops to overlook criminal acts. Although the mafia’s activities occur all over the city, it is widely known that their base operation is in Farriston.
The head of the Mafia, in New Dawn City, likes to play things safe. He's doesn't attack or kill recklessly, and he prefers to avoid making enemies with potential threats. It was a shock when he killed Captain Matter considering Captain Matter’s heroic efforts had been mostly focused on taking out The Cult. However such acts, from the mafia, are not unheard of. Lately, He has been trying to use the Mafia to put an end to Arthur Bisk. He sees Arthur Bisk as a huge threat and fears what he is capable of.

The Cult
The Cult was formed by a man, known as The Patriarch, soon after the creation of The Rift. The Cult preaches a religion called Rebirthism. They claim The Rift is the gateway to the spirit world and God himself, and that those with powers are God’s children. The Cult gives protection to its followers who bring weekly gifts to The Patriarch.
The Cult’s territory resides predominately in Oldtown. Once a week a ritual, The Rebirth, is performed around the old Sky Labs facility, which is home to The Rift. There, randomly selected worshippers are given a chance become closer with God. Those selected enter the facility are never seen again. Higher ranked Cult members, who are involved in the ritual, claim the chosen followers given a new life and transformed into angels. It is said these angels protect The Cult’s members from non-believers. Ever since these rituals have begun, there have been numerous reports of “monster” sightings in Oldtown.

The Businessman
Out of all of New Dawn’s factions, Arthur Bisk, referred by some as The Businessman, is the most legit in the eyes of the government. Nobody knows where his money came from, but it is known that he obtained it soon after the creation of The Rift. Since then, The Businessman has bought all of Newtown and has set up his own cooperation called Bisk Tech, which is the only company to manufacture Anti-Super Tech.
Currently conducting a campaign to be mayor, Bisk promotes himself to the public as being highly Anti-Super. Since his rise to power, he has created Newtown’s Anti-Super Police and has constructed an Anti-Super jail, where experiments are performed on the prisoners. With his Anti-Super Police, Bisk has managed to imprison nearly all of the criminal Supers that reside in Newtown. He has even secretly pushed into action a plan which will imprison all Supers whether they are criminals or not. As such, Newtown is practically clean of Supers and Farriston is beginning to get hit hard. Oldtown, however, has remained relatively untouched due to the The Cult’s influence on the people.

Mauriello stared out his window and took in the view of New Dawn City. The sun would rise soon he knew. “Looks like I won’t be getting any sleep.” He grumbled while attempting to ignore the sobs of the beaten woman at the far corner of his office.
“Hey boss,” came a voice from the com on Mauriello’s desk, “we have him.”
“Please… Just let me go. I didn’t know. I had nothing to do with what he is.” Mauriello frowned. The woman had been saying the same thing for the whole night. It didn't matter what she said at this point. He couldn't let her go now.
“Bring him in.” Mauriello said as he held the com button down with his finger.
“Please…” begged the woman again as Mauriello pulled out his gun and turned off the safety. A few minutes later, his men entered and tossed a bound and gagged man onto the floor. The man was dressed in a costume and wore a mask.
“So you're supposed to be our Superhero, eh?” Mauriello said as he looked over the man head to toe. The woman continued her sobs not daring to look at the bound man she once called her husband. “You know, there’s a reason why Supers don’t go hero.” Mauriello continued as he glanced over at the crying woman. “There’s just too much to lose and so little to gain. Life just ain’t what it’s like in them comic books.”
The costumed man struggled desperately in his bounds as Mauriello casually walked towards his window. It was starting to get brighter. “New Dawn City. This city definitely lives up to its name. This city was the first to enter the industrial age; the first to give birth to the Super Criminal; and more recently, it became the first to give us…” Mauriello turned his head away from the window and fixed his gaze back upon the bound man on the floor “…the superhero.
“Yes this city has plenty of firsts to its name.” Mauriello continued as he casually raised his gun, off to the side and pulled the trigger. There was a loud bang followed by a thump. No more sobbing came from the corner of the room.
Without sparing a glance at the corpse, which now bloodied his floor, Mauriello approached the now raged filled man, still struggling against his bounds. “Today, this city, will have yet another first.” Mauriello lowered his gun to the man’s forehead. “Starting today, New Dawn will be the location of where the world's first superhero died. Today is the day hope dies.”
Mauriello released a bullet into the man’s skull without a second thought and made his way back to the window. “Clean that up and hang them in Farriston Park for all to see.” Mauriello’s men did as they were told and left the office.
“That won’t be the last of them.” Came a voice from the shadows. It was The Patriarch, Mauriello knew. That man’s ability to spy on people was quite troublesome, though not so much as The Watcher’s.
“Course not.” Mauriello replied. “There will be plenty more where he came from. Suppose it was only a matter of time though.” Light began to pour into the window as the sun finally crept up above the horizon.
“You’re not worried?”
Mauriello laughed. “Worried? About a few rookie superheroes? Nah, that’s nothing to be concerned about. In a world like ours, a world full of supervillains, what can some rookie heroes hope to accomplish?”
Mauriello turned away from the window to look into the depths of the office's shadows. There was no one there of course. The Patriarch would never risk coming in person to see Mauriello.
The sun had finally rose above New Dawn City. It was a city of life. A city of beauty. A city… of supervillains.

It’s been 15 years since the rift to the spirit realm was opened. Since then nothing has been the same. Originally, The Rift was formed to help scientists understand that which could not be explained. Five years was spent researching how to make it. Another five was spent to create it. Scientists claimed the rift would take mankind to the next level, and to be honest they weren’t wrong. Humanity did take a giant leap forward, but not for the better.
The opening of The Rift released spiritual energy into our world. Most people remained unaffected by the energy; however this was not true for everyone. A rare few obtained great powers once the energy washed over them. Although some initially thought to use this power for good, in the end the temptation to use their powers for personal gain proved too great.
Society as we knew it was rewritten. Those with powers ruled over the weak. The ones without it lived their lives in fear. The world had become a crooked place where justice was only a faint memory…

About This World
In recent years, Biotech has started to hit the streets. Cell phones and gps are slowly being replaced by chips in your brains and other implants. This means that things like cyborg hands that turn into guns are not unheard of, and viewing the internet and/or a movie through an implanted contact lens is possible. If you wish to make a character that does not have powers, Biotech could be an avenue to venture. However, keep in mind that Biotech can be hacked. Should that happen you may find your character in quite a bind considering the technology is literally a part of you.
Invented by Arthur Bisk, referred to by some as The Businessman (One of the three major powers in New Dawn City), anti-super technology is used for exactly what it sounds like. Although the technology has already been adapted in many ways, it always has the same effect, which is to nullify super powers. So far, the technology has been limited for the government only, thus making it highly desired in the underworld. As such, there have been a few people who have managed to get their hands on anti-super tech, but the number of such people is very low. Some have tried to replicate the technology but with no success. Currently, only Arthur truly knows the science behind it.
Anti-Super tech comes in various forms. There are handcuffs, darts, bullets, vests, helmets, chip implants, liquid injections, and even portable containment fields. The technology seems to work best when it enters the body’s system. As such, implants have proven to be the most effective means of utilizing the technology. The implant gives the user complete protection from superpowers and even gives the user the ability to nullify any Supers he/she comes in contact with. Of course if the chip is implanted into a Super, it will completely nullify his/her powers.

Those with powers are known as Supers. Supers are always absorbing the spiritual energy around them due to rare gene thought to be responsible for the “sixth sense” and other supernatural phenomena. With the opening of The Rift the amount of Spiritual energy, in the world, increased tenfold thus giving those with the gene their powers.
Former non-super humans who have been transformed by the Patriarch's gene splicing superpower. As the name suggest, Hybrids are part human part animal. Their genome can contain genes from two different types of animals at most. All Hybrids have been given some kind of superpower by The Patriarch. Since The Patriarch already has the "Super" gene in his own genome, he makes sure to splice that gene into all of his Hybrids.
The majority of all Hybrids have lost much of their former human intelligence and most can no longer speak the human tongue. They are normally nocturnal and are highly aggressive when left unchecked by The Patriarch. Currently, The Patriarch has hybrids scattered all throughout Oldtown. They are the ones responsible for Oldtown's "monster" sightings, yet despite this, their existence is unknown by most of the general public.
Recent events have revealed to the heroes that Hybrids can be turned human again when they come into contact with Anti-Super (AS) Tech. However the effects from the AS Tech isn't permanent as the hybrids turn back to normal once the AS Tech is removed. The Watcher has mentioned that he suspects that The Patriarch has already made hundreds of hybrids. The Watcher also mentioned his belief that there is a connection between the Hybrids and the Rebirthists who are during The Patriarch's weekly ceremonies.

Lately, He has been trying to use the Mafia to put an end to Arthur Bisk. He sees Arthur Bisk as a huge threat and fears what he is capable of.
Basic Mafia Hierarchy
Mauriello was never a part of the Mafia until a little over 14 years ago (about 8 or so months after the appearance of the Rift). He appeared out of nowhere and killing most of the mafia’s prior crime lords. The deaths lead to mass confusion which Mauriello took advantage of in order to become the leader of the Mafia. It took a year to assert his control and since then he’s been leading the Mafia from his penthouse in the Vista.
The Farrovonti Family was with Mauriello from the start. Originally a mediocre family within the mafia, they saw Mauriello’s appearance as an opportunity to make it to the big leagues. As such they played a major role in helping Mauriello piece together the Mafia amidst the confusion that Mauriello’s actions caused. As a reward they were put in charge of Newtown’s criminal operation. This typically involves dealing with the businesses who owe their funding and success to the Mafia. Other things that The Farrovonti family is in charge of includes securing Biotech and other various forms of technology and finding supers willing to work for Mauriello before the AS police identifies them.
The Farrovonti family has a reputation of being very loyal to Mauriello. However since Bisk’s rise to power, business has not been going so well for the Farrovonti Family. Bisk has bought out the majority of the Mafia controlled businesses. As a result The Farrovonti family has allegiance has begun to falter and they have begun to question whether Mauriello is fit for the job.

Originally, the Chevolis Family was a minor family who was mostly in charge of coordinating with the corrupt cops within Farriston’s police force. In fact, a good portion of their family members were corrupt cops in high ranking positions. Things changed though when Mauriello appeared and offered them a position of power. Now, the Chevolis Family oversees all of the criminal activities that takes place in Farriston. And although they still have the police force in the palm of their hands, the majority of their “hard earned” cash comes from the several gambling facilities located across Farriston. This has made their family one of the wealthier and more stuck up families within the Mafia.
The Chevolis Family employs several loan sharks to track down and threaten people with debts. Many of these loan sharks tend to be lowly supers.
The Chevolis Family employs several loan sharks to track down and threaten people with debts. Many of these loan sharks tend to be lowly supers.
Although still a well-respected family within the Mafia, The Salvieowns position has lowered since Mauriello’s rise to power. After the deaths of the previous mafia heads, the Salvieowns immediately tried to seize control of the confusion in an attempt to become the new leading family of the mafia. For the longest time, they had nearly half of the mafia following them and were Mauriello’s top competition as head family of the Mafia. As a result The Salvieowns nearly went to war with Mauriello, but everything changed the moment Mauriello had their daughter, who had just turned six, kidnapped. In response, The Salvieowns reluctantly put their feud aside in return for their daughter’s safety.
Mauriello accepted the Salvieowns back into the mafia but kept their daughter as insurance. Ever since, they have been grudgingly serving Mauriello as overseers of Oldtown’s criminal activity. They take charge of things such as drug and weapon trafficking, prostitution and providing “protection” to small time businesses and communities. The Salvieowns also are in-charge of keeping the uneasy peace between The Cult and the mafia. They provide The Cult with various supplies in exchange for conducting business in Oldtown without any “mishaps”.
The Salvieowns still hold a deep hatred for Mauriello and would turn on him the first chance they got. Although they do still miss their daughter, their daughter no longer remembers her original parents as Mauriello raised her as his own. As such they no longer consider her to be a part of the Salvieown family.

Mauriello formed The Elite shortly after his rise to power. The Elite are a chosen few who officially are in charge of serving, escorting and protecting Mauriello. Behind closed doors The Elite are actually the ones Mauriello goes to when he needs “special” jobs to be performed. Such jobs typically includes kidnapping, theft, recon, making someone disappears and making it look like someone had an “accident”. The Elite are picked based on loyalty and skill. However traitors are not unheard of in The Elite. After all, when push comes to shove, they are just hired guns.

It is said these angels protect The Cult’s members from non-believers. Ever since these rituals have begun, there have been numerous reports of “monster” sightings in Oldtown.
Origin of Rebirthism
Back when the rift was just formed and the people had just received their powers, acts of violence and crime was at an all-time high. The weak and poor had no way to defend themselves from the supers brought about by The Rift. With nowhere to turn many of them prayed for salvation and a way to protect their selves from these so called super humans. Amid the anarchy, one small family’s prays for salvation was answered.
The Patriarch came to this family, offered them the chance to live their life without fear of the supers. The family agreed and offered their oldest son to The Patriarch, who left with the boy a moment later. That night, the boy returned home with new found powers, claiming that all the Patriarch did was give the boy a single drop of the Patriarch’s blood to drink. The blood changed him. It made him stronger. The boy was now on an equal standing with other supers. It was as if it he was reborn anew!
From then on the family viewed the Patriarch as their savior. Word spread. More people sought out The Patriarch, hoping that they too would be given power from this man of miracles. Before long, they began to worship him. He was the answer to the people’s prays. He was the one who would guide them through this new age of supers.
The Patriarch taught his people that The Rift, and the powers caused by it, were the work of God. As such those with such powers were children of God. He let it known that powers are a test of will power and restraint. Those who abused their powers and stray from God’s teachings would be punished while those who walked God’s path were to be rewarded.
The Patriarch’s following quickly grew so overwhelming that he stopped seeing people requesting to be given power. Rather The Patriarch began a ritual where he would gather everyone in front of the old Sky Labs building. From then on, every week he would pick a select few to be “reborn” with the grace of God’s power. And that marked the beginning of the religion of Rebirthism.

Basic Hierarchy of The Cult
The Patriarch leads The Cult as the people’s messiah. He leads from within the abandoned Sky Labs facility and he rarely ever leaves it. As such, few can ever claim to have spoken with him personally. Many Rebirthist consider The Patriarch’s word as being the word of God.
The Divine are a group of supers who are closely involved with The Patriarch’s plans and activities. Some are religious. Some pretend to be religious. Whatever the case, The Divine have a position of high authority, as such whatever they say goes. As far as the people know, The Divine help The Patriarch rule The Cult by dictating The Patriarch’s will in place of The Patriarch. What the people don’t know, is that The Patriarch also uses the Divine for more questionable activities such as negotiating with the Mafia and exacting punishment on the people whom displease The Patriarch. The Divine all have a tattoo of a shining hand somewhere on their body.
All supers that join The Cult start here. God’s Children performs tasks that are too tedious for those above them. Such tasks include protecting The Patriarch, enforcing The Divine’s commands and dealing with people who break the Rebirthist’s religious code. God’s Children wear a badge, of a shining hand, on their clothes.
The Cult’s preachers are uninvolved in the more darker happening’s that The Cult is involved in. Also, none of them are supers. Rather, the preacher’s only job is to spread the teachings of Rebirthism.

New Dawn's 6 o'clock new is broadcasting on the television. The show's hosts John Hummer and Melissa Dane are giving the latest news stories about Bisk's popularity among the people and the drop in crime rate due to Bisk's Anti-super police. As the two start discussing a more disturbing story about the monster sightings in Oldtown quadrupling and the first death (a 16 year old girl) caused by one such "monster" sighting, the TV is shut off by a George Harris. The man is one of the Anti-Super Jail's (ASJ) security guards.
George Harris was on his way to work by taxi. A means of travel he didn't usually take. Before receiving his position, George had been completely paralyzed. That was before Bisk came along and offered him a position at the ASJ. Bisk paid for Biotech surgery which would allow George to live his life again. George accepted the offer and since his life had been good that is until the day he used his biotech to open a strange email from an unknown sender. Since then the days had all seemed like blurs to him. Often times he would find himself in strange places not quite sure what he was doing there.
When George's taxi arrives at George's work place, the man briefly ponders to himself just why he is using the taxi when the metro is much cheaper. However his stray thoughts are cut off by some outside thought he received from his master. George obediently obeys his master in hopes of being allowed to continued living his life in complete bliss. For, according to George, there is no better reward than that. It is then reveal that George Harris is currently acting as the Watcher's hands, ears, eyes and mouth.
As George makes his way for the security room to start his day at work, other supers are getting to know each other in the cells of the ASJ. Two supers, Jamie and Jorgen are currently being held in a cell together in the third basement of the ASJ. The two are scheduled for a day of experimentation and due to the jail's Anti-super field (AS Field) they are unable to do anything about it. Down in Solitary Confinement, another super, Maya is also about to be taken for experimentation. The only three supers not about to be experimented on are Daniel Harrison (also in Basment 3) as well as Kyle Neil and Alisha Robberts (both who are unknown supers being held in Holding basement 1).
While the supers are getting to know one another, Marcus Gellotti (a boxer), steps into a cab which just so happens to driven by a Biotechie named Zack (another of the watchers "Pawns"). The previous night, Marcus had lost a major match and because of that a mobster wants him dead. In exchange for protection, The Watcher asks him to help break the imprisoned Supers out of prison. Marcus agrees. The two then head for a nearby metro station which is currently under construction.
Back at the ASJ, George had already made his way to the security room of the prison. There, the Watcher had him kill his fellow employee. Afterwards George inserted a usb into the prison's security system which allowed the Watcher to "merge" with the system remotely. The Watcher went through the security system and began disabling specific AS fields, but not before triggering the alarm which began locking The Watcher out of the system. One of the places which had it's AS field removed was in Basement 1 (Holding). There Alisha took no time using her power to take all of the electricity from the Jail and by doing so ended up short circuiting everything. This also triggered the Building's backup generator to turn on, but with all the circuits dead, that only lead to a fire and the chaos which followed.
Alisha's actions had caused the building to catch on fire and everyone was trying to find a way to escape. Before the whole fire began, Maya was freed from Solitary by The Watcher. After stealing a card key from one of the guards, Maya went about freeing all the nearby prisoners and picking off the remaining guards with the prisoners help. With everyone's combined help, they were able to make their way to the staircase in an attempt to flee.
Meanwhile, back on the surface, The commissioner of the ASP, Dan Williams, went about setting up a perimeter around the prison and activated a portable AS-field around the prison grounds. While in the process of doing this, he made a call to Bisk about the situation. After hearing about the prison's failure to perform as expected, Bisk commanded Dan to set off the explosives lining the walls of the prison. Fortunately, The Watcher managed to disarm the majority of these explosives. For the most part, only the floors above basement 2 exploded. However, this was not such a great thing for Alisha and Kyle who were currently in Basement 1.
Surviving the explosion, Alisha at first panicked, however she quickly pulled herself together and climbed her way to the surface. Annoyed with the rash action, Kyle ran after her only for them to be spotted by the guards manning the watch towers.
By that point, Marcus, following the watcher's instructions, had made his way into a nearby metro station currently under construction. In disguise, Marcus navigated the tunnels using a map. He arrived at the designated location and there he set off a backpack full with explosives. The explosives blew a hole into the nearby wall and made an opening into the west wing of Basement 3. Many prisoners immediately made note of the new path to freedom, and scrambled their way to the exit. But before most of them escaped, a group of guards had managed to escape to safety first. Now inside the metro station, the guards set off an ambush and killed any prisoner who attempted to escape.
Back on the surface, the media had arrived on the scene after learning about the commotion. Because of the media, the Commissioner realized that it would be best to not kill Alisha and Kyle for the moment (His orders were to kill all the supers). Instead he planned to capture them and kill them behind closed doors. The majority of people may be against supers, but he needed the ASP to continue looking like the heroes. Killing in front of the media could damage their reputation.
So while the commissioner planned to take the two supers captive, The Watcher was busy monitoring the situation from a variety of wireless devices and mainly from the media's helicopter hovering above the scene. As he monitored the situation, he formulated a plan to save the two supers using another super who goes by Blink (a teleporter). Blink had spent the previous night on the run from the ASP, who raided his home. With The Watcher's help, Blink manage to evade the authorities and save his skin. In return for assisting Blink, The Watcher asked for Blink to assist him in rescuing Alisha and Kyle. Forced to chose between evading the ASP on his own or to continue receiving The Watcher's assistance, Blink grudgingly agreed.
Back inside the prison, Maya, Jamie and Jorgen had all met during the chaos and worked together to escape the prison through the new exit in the wall. They worked together to beat up the guards at the ambush point and finally made their way to the safety of the metro station. At this point, they had all managed to bond somewhat and decided the safest move forward was to disguise themselves in the downed guards uniforms. Unknown to them, the SWAT team was well on their way to the metro station due to the reports of explosions and super activity. Unfortunately for Daniel, he got caught up in a mix up and fell behind the other three.
As the new trio made their way to what they hoped to be freedom, The Watcher had Blink riding around the perimeter in the same cab Marcus started in. Blinks job was to place explosives on all the vehicles containing the portable AS-field devices. When all the explosives were placed, Blink detonated the explosives effectively taking out the AS-field. The moment the AS-field was gone, The Watcher took advantage of the confusion. Commanding the cab driver, The Watcher gave Blink a wild ride past the barricade and ASP car and into the prison grounds. Once in, The Watcher picked up Alisha and Kyle and escaped onto the streets with a tail of cops behind him.
At the same time The Watcher was focusing on the cab driver's driving, he also was waiting patiently outside the metro station for the trio of supers to appear. There he monitored the situation as an old lady Biotechie, named Hilda, who drove a bus which apparently is yellow. As she waited, the SWAT team arrived on the scene and was speaking with a guard who left in order to get backup. In mid conversation Jorgen appeared and created a distraction with his Silver entity. Jorgen and the rest planned to hijack Hilda's bus and use it to escape. However, as they edged their way away from the SWAT team, Erica Hearth, a Biotechie and the SWAT team's leader, leaped towards Silver. She knew that her AS chip would negate Silver the moment her body interacted with the entity.
After taking out the Silver a few times Erica noticed the trio heading for the bus. As she attempted to stop them, the Watcher had Zack, the cab driver, make his way towards Erica and ended up smashing the car into her. This ended up severely damaging her biotech enhanced body. Zack and the supers within the cab, drove off and eventually lost their pursuers. The trio, however made it to the bus just in time for Daniel to make it out of the station and join the party. And so Hilda (The Watcher) tells the trio to get back out there and help him. They manage to do so but not without Jamie taking on quite a bit of damage.
While the Trio are helping out Daniel, a lone girl sits in the back of the bus all alone. Katie was a super herself but was raised to hate other supers. Her family knew about her powers, but always told her to keep them a secret which she did until the day an accident happened involving her power. Her dad decided to take the blame for her actions and was sent to the super jail. The Watcher had taken note of all this and offered Katie and her family help in exchange for her service. So with the Watcher's help, Katie had followed Marcus into the under construction metro station and entered the prison after he blew a hole through the wall. There she helped her father escape and was the first one to make it to the bus. She continued to keep to herself though because of her fear of supers.
Jumping back to Zack, the cab driver, and the other group of supers, Zack had ditched his cab and swapped it for another car. With it, the group went to the hospital to pick up one last super called Sidney (a child). The boy was a shape shifter whose parents were currently in a coma. The Watcher didn't normally pick up kids, but Sidney was a special case. The watcher knew full well that Shape Shifters were dangerous in the wrong hands. The last thing they needed was for Bisk to get his hands on Sidney. For if Bisk found a way to turn Shape Shifting into a weapon, then they were all screwed.
And so Sidney joined the group. Alisha and Marcus at this point seemed to have vanished off the face of the earth, and everybody made their way for the abandoned Police HQ in Oldtown. The building which would act as their base of operations.
George Harris was on his way to work by taxi. A means of travel he didn't usually take. Before receiving his position, George had been completely paralyzed. That was before Bisk came along and offered him a position at the ASJ. Bisk paid for Biotech surgery which would allow George to live his life again. It's an hour and a half after the epic prison escape. Our heroes are now gathered together at the old Police HQ located in Oldtown. The building had been abandoned for 10 years after a members of the Cult massacred the police force in the area. Since then, the building has been avoided due to the rumors of it being haunted and cursed. For that reason, The Watcher had decided it would be the perfect place to use as the Team’s building of operations.
The team gathered together in the building foyer not really sure what was going on. After a few moments of waiting, (and one or two supers eyeing Hilda and the Cab Driver, Zack, up front), The Watcher decides to greet everyone using hidden speakers within the room. He congratulates everyone on making it this far and begins talking about how the city has gone to ruins. That is when he gets to the reason he guided the team here. He declares that he wants to put an end to New Dawn’s Three Main powers (Bisk, the mafia, and The cult), but to do so he needs their help.
This of course leads into the Q&A section of the meeting. Questions are asking about family, where everyone will live and how they are supposed to escape notice of the AS police after everything that happen. The Watcher answers all the questions. He informs them that they will receive new identities for the time being and that he has been deleting and editing data and videos/news feed which could tip off the authorities. He also informs them that he has an apartment setup just for them and will be sending them money for living expenses.
After answering everyone’s questions, The supers agree to help him (some grudgingly) and the Watcher finishes by telling them there will be a week or two of training. He also mentions the first session would begin that very night. A few supers then go about exploring the building while Jamie heads out to check up on his mom who lives nearby. Unnoticed by everyone else, both of the Watcher’s “tools”, Hilda and Zack, had left the building at this point in time. A seemingly innocent act.
After an hour or so later Jamie returns. His visit had been strange. For one, his mom had not been home. And two, her apartment had been eerily empty. Jamie however did not think much of it and was satisfied with the note he left behind. It is around then that the sun sets and a loud screech is heard throughout the building. See, The Watcher didn't mention there is a reason this building is said to be haunted. A reason the Watcher suspects to date back to The Patriarch’s first Rebirthist ritual. At this time Hilda and Zack are long gone cause the Watcher does not wish to lose a second “tool” today.
Kyle, who had been exploring the building, was the first to get attacked by a blind part human, part bat, part bird of prey creature. The creature, who mentally refers to herself as Kariene (she, it, does not speak), ends up dazing Kyle. She then tastes his blood and gets excited about it being human blood. Her actions end up waking another spider-like hybrid creature who decides to take Kyle for his own meal. Kariene doesn’t mind much though for her bat-like ears then pick up the noise that the other humans are making. Kariene leaves Kyle with the spider hybrid as she leaps into an open vent and begins crawling her way to the foyer.
It is then that Kyle snaps out of his daze and knocks out the spider hybrid before it has the chance to munch on him. Unfortunately, to Kyle’s annoyance, that is when another hybrid appears (a snake-like one) and begins chasing Kyle back to the foyer. A few blows are exchanged, and the snakeguy spits some acid here and there, but in end Kyle makes it back to foyer in one piece. He warns the others about the danger which he unfortunately brought with him.
This little fiasco startled little old Sid, who starts panicking and losing control of his powers, and freaks out Katie. Katie lets out a scream, which attracts a gorilla-like hybrid who barges straight through one of the foyer's doors. Jamie takes the liberty of tossing some flames monkeyboy’s way but it has little effect due to the thing’s thick hide. So Kyle then steps into the fray and absorbs the creature’s strength into his body in an attempt to slow it down.
Up above the scene of the commotion, Kariene quietly sits in the ventilation unable to see what is going on. She uses her power, to phase through solid objects (yes hybrids have powers), to position her head through the ceiling and into the room. After clicking her tongue a few times, using her echolocation to view her surroundings, she decides there are too many people there to her liking. Kariene then continues through the vents until she comes across Blink/Louis, who is taking some time to himself in a lone office. Clicking her tongue excitedly, Kariene phases through the ceiling and takes a lunge towards Louis.
Back in the foyer, all manner of chaos occurs. Katie is still freaking out while unintentionally attacking Gorillaman with her powers. Kyle gets KO’ed by the Gorillaman. Jorgen decides to go tango with the snake using his Silver as snakeboy’s wrestle buddy. Maya sees that and decides she wants a piece of the action. She takes that moment to hop on Snakeboy in an attempt to inject her poisons into it. Of course that doesn’t work and only results in Snakeboy freeing himself from Silver while dragging Maya down into the holding cell room within the building.
As all this is going on, Dorian, a new character, is silently watching from the shadows. Dorian was sent here, by the Watcher, to simply observe. He had worked for the Watcher before, but this time was different. This time the Watcher wanted to try to pique Dorian’s curiosity in this mission. And so Dorian watched, with an earpiece & mic to communicate with the Watcher, until Gorillaman KO’d Kyle and took off with Katie. Dorian took that moment to make an appearance and pursue the Gorillaman. During the chase, Katie got KO’d and Gorillaman began to duke it out with Dorian. The fight didn’t last long though for despite the Watcher’s wishes to keep the Hybrid alive for study, Dorian killed it by freezing it and then using fire to shatter the hybrid into a million pieces.
In the meantime, Louis and Kariene had been exchanging a few blows before Louis took off and accidentally stumbled into the holding cell room where he found Snakeboy and Maya in a cell with more snakes. He didn’t have long to take the scene in though for at that moment Kariene phased through the wall and decided to attack him again. Fed up with the hybrid, Louis KO’d it with a series of teleports and blows to the head. At that point Jorgen had reappeared with Silver and had managed to use Silver to lock Snakeboy into one of the cells. This did not stop snakeboy however as his power was to spit acid. So Snakeboy escaped from the cell and was about to flee only to also be KO’d by Louis.
It was around then that the Watcher had Zack reappear in the holding cell room with a gun. Zack shot and killed Kariene since her power made it impossible to contain her. He also had Hilda Kill the spider hybrid since they never learned what its power was and by rule of thumb, the Watcher sticks with what he knew. The Watcher then had Zack congratulate the three on a job well done and announced this training session was over. Of the four hybrids, Snakeboy was the only one kept alive, for study purposes.
After hearing all this, Maya stormed out, and went back to the foyer annoyed with the Watcher and mad that he killed the hybrids. At this point Dorian returned with a now conscious Katie. Kyle had also regained consciousness and attempted to calm down Sid. It was around then that Kyle started to voicing his doubts about the Watcher and began wondering whether it would be safer to go off on his own way. Despite both Maya and Louis being mad at and distrustful of the Watcher for using them like he did, they responded by saying that they are outlaws now and chances are it would be impossible to make it on their own without The Watcher's help. Jorgen, however, disagreed. The Watcher's actions enraged him. As such he decided to leave the team of heroes for good.
It was then that Hilda reappeared with a bag of first aid supplies. The Watcher then proceeded to explain his/her actions and let them in on a little information about the Watcher. The Watcher explained that he no longer knows who he/she is due to the excess amount of information he/she has taken in as the Watcher. For whatever reason, The watcher can no longer move his/her body or even open his/her eyes. As such The Watcher's only way to interact with the world had been through machines. Of course that all changed when Biotech went public. Now the Watcher can interact with the world by taking over a biotechie's body. He mentioned that Zack and Hilda are two of the three biotechies that he currently has control of. Bottom line, The Watcher admitted to not being a good person. Rather, he is only human. The heroes, however, were still not amused. From now on they wanted The Watcher to be more honest with them. The Watcher agreed.
As the remaining heroes began patching themselves up. The Watcher had a sudden thought about the hybrids. With Maya's permission, The Watcher used Zack to retrieve the Anti Super vest that Maya had taken during the prison break. With the vest he returned to the room with the unconscious hybrid Snakeman in it. The Watcher then had Zack drape the hybrid with the Anti-Super (AS) vest. The effects were immediate. Snakeman instantly turned back into a human. The Watcher then had Zack remove the vest from the man. This of course caused the man to turn back into a hybrid which raised a red flag for the Watcher.
The watcher had hoped that the solution to the hybrids would be as simple as making a cure. That was before The watcher knew the hybrids were created by an ability. An ability that for whatever reason would not completely vanish even after being exposed to AS-tech. To put an end to these hybrids The watcher decided that they would first need to learn more about the ability, the Patriarch and what the Patriarch is planning.
Meanwhile, In Sky labs an new character entered the fray. Void, an insane women with the ability to create portals entered Sky Labs and began killing a path to The Patriarch's office. Void was here because the Patriarch had been sending out men to find and retrieve Void the past couple of months. In the past she had ignored these visitors, but now The Patriarch had intrigued her. As such she decided to pay The Patriarch this unexpected visit.
Upon entering The Patriarch's office she was nearly attack by The Patriarch's doll of a daughter Shade. The Patriarch told her to stand down though before any damage was done. From there Void attacked and threatened Shade and did other various actions which angered The Patriarch. During this, the patriarch did his best to remain cool and began to inform Void of why he sent for her. He explained that he had a plan that will turn the city upside down and he needed her help to see it through. Void didn't exactly say yes or no, but The patriarch took her response as a sort of "I'm interested."
The arc then comes to a close on the verge of midnight at The Vista, located in Farriston. A shadow, Created by Shade, enters Mauriello's office. Using the Shadow The Patriarch speaks with Mauriello. The two talk to one another as if they had known each other for years, however the conversation was far from friendly.
During the conversation, Mauriello constantly refers to The Patriarch as Eric, and the Patriarch refers to Mauriello as Thomas. The two talk about the recent jail break. Mauriello expresses his belief that the Watcher is behind it and exclaims that he concerned about why the Watcher did it. Not really caring, The Patriarch changes to subject to his encounter with Void and offers Mauriello a chance to help The Patriarch see his plan through.
Mauriello coldly declines the offer stating that he has no interest in creating monsters. The Patriarch simply laughs at his response and tells Mauriello that he shouldn't act like he is better than The Patriarch because Mauriello has done things just as bad. Mauriello admits to his sins but explains that they are not gods. Rather they are human beings just like everyone else and should not act Superior to those without powers. He then kindly asks the Patriarch to leave. When the Patriarch refuses, Mauriello eliminates the shadow, which the Patriarch is using as a medium, by using his power to create a blinding light. With the shadow gone. Mauriello goes back to work.
