OOC can be found Here.

Welcome to the interest check for Starless, a roleplay I devised some weeks ago after having one-too-many messed up dreams after a long night binging on cheese. Thank you for taking the time to visit this thread, and I hope I can convince you to express interest in a rather unique fantasy game.

Our story begins in the land of Ansus, a relatively peaceful continent that has been brought to its current state after millennia of bloodthirsty wars between nations, and vicious conflicts between heroes of legend. Historically, the mythical figures of the past have always relied upon the aid of the Gods (which many believed that they held a personal relationship with) to become the legends that they were. As a result, Ansus is generally a highly religious land that is dotted with incredible examples of its inhabitants' faith: colossal temples carved from entire mountains, and magnificent cities created solely to appease their divine masters. Life in Ansus is good, even those peasants who dwell in the suburban squalor enjoy a certain spiritual wealth that none in the far continents could hope for.

But things are amiss in Ansus, much to the ignorance of those who call this land home. The Gods are being picked off one-by-one by some creature... some entity, and with each loss, the land of Ansus is scarred. The eternal fires within the temples that represent the Gods are faltering and dying. Each day a new fire dies, and Ansus becomes a little darker.

It is a thousand years since the formation of Ansus as a unified land, and the last Great Fire within the Bastion of Light has waned and dwindled first into embers, and then into ashes. The high priests do not reveal to the populace that the Gods are extinct, rather devoting their energies to whatever rituals they can conceive to rekindle the fire. But despite their efforts, the land grows cold and dark.

The last God, is his wisdom, knew that his kind could not defend themselves from this being that so effortlessly brought low he and his kind, and knew that after his defeat that the Humans of Ansus would be next. And so, his final act was to rouse the spirits of those long sleeping legends from the chaotic times before; those mythical heroes who made the land tremble with the very mention of their name. It may not be enough, but he had to try before being consumed by the Starless beast who came for his divine soul...

And that is the general overview of the plotline thus far. As a last ditch effort by the last God to defend mankind, great heroes (and villains) from the chaotic past of Ansus are returned to life, as they are the only ones who could ever wield enough power to save the world from the Starless. The population of Ansus is unaware of what has happened and continue their lives unabated and ignorant of the storm that approaches. Is anybody up for this sort of roleplay? If so i'll get to work on a OOC.

I'd be interested, though I'll be juggling this on top of another role play. Still, this is a cool concept!

@BucketNot at all, this account is very new with few posts! It doesn't diminish in any way.

But this seems to be getting some interest. I'll probably start work on the OOC some time today.

I'm very interested!

(Although truth be told, I misread "Ansus" for "anus.")

Quite interested in this. I might already have a concept for a "villainous" character. Though I'd have to inquire into how the great revival would affect those that were not dead, merely sleeping.

@Transience: Are there any limitations to what characters are capable of? Like, powers, strengths, weaknesses?

Furthermore, would I be allowed to make a bard-like adventurer character, who has more power in wit than in ability but can learn how to do a variety of things and who came from a time when, under the god of wisdom that he devoted himself to, he united a variety of kingdoms into an empire? Or would that be too farfetched and overpowered of him?

@ravenDivinityI am not going to impose any limitations on what your characters are going to be capable of. I expect that you will all self-monitor though, and not go too far.

Characters are going to be on the same level as real mythical heroes (or mythical heroes from other canons). There is probably a reason they have such legends behind them.

And you absolutely would be allowed to create that character. I would not consider his effort uniting nations as overpowered. As I mentioned before, our characters are literally legendary heroes, and they are legendary for a reason.

@Transience: Sweet!

Then the great adventurer, the uniter of nations, who tempered his magical powers in his journey throughout Ansus to restore order, is born. I'll go ahead and trust that you know how to limit us such that we do not overstep our bounds.

When these legends revive, will they be weakened, or will they have the same level of power they achieved before they died?

@ravenDivinityAbsolutely, i'll obviously approve sheets before the game to ensure there are no characters who are too over the top, but I'd imagine players will have a good ideas of what to create.

When they revive, they can either be weakened or not, that is entirely up to you and how you decide to tell the story of your hero.

I'll go more in depth about my GM'ing style soon, but to keep it simple: as all players are equally invested in the RP, I like to bestow upon everybody the same privileges that the GM has. Imagine it as an RP run by players and not the GM, I just like to set up the world and watch it grow.

I'm curious as to how our characters will be learning of the threat and then meeting up. Other inquiries regard the reacquisition of any of their legendary relics or equipment or what have you, and any followings or retinues that they may procure to face the threat that they had been resurrected to fight.

Continuing along that vein, in what condition will they be resurrected? I'm assuming the state they were in at the moment of death? Or in their prime, provided they earned the luxury of longevity?

@CorvidaeI would assume they would return to life in their prime state, though they can return in any form should you so wish.
