Lore
A faint tick-tock rippled through the air in a white-walled flat. The street outside was already alive with car-horns and birds calling. Sun seeped through the pleated blinds and settled on the floor in a uniform array of straight lines against straight shadows. Somewhere, though, in the modern apartment space a shadow lingered against the wall - its cause unknown, its presence unaccounted for, the residents of the house it owned lived peacefully in its territory. Soon, it promised, soon it will make itself known, and the shadow will swallow the house and its people.
- In 1990 a photojournalist Will Navidson and his family moved into a house in West Virginia. Not long after they moved in they attended a wedding - when they returned to the house Navidson discovered that it had changed. The interior dimensions of the house were slightly larger than the exterior dimensions. At first, the change was minimal - the entire south wall of the house was a few centimeters longer on the inside than outside. The change was unsettling to Navidson's family and beyond confusing. Navidson contacted architecture experts who were all clueless as to the house that defied physics and space. In order to document this phenomenon Navidson sets up a series of video cameras around his house - the video content they record would later become The Navidson Record.
- Two weeks after the initial change, a larger, more worrying alteration transpired. A wall between two rooms, no thicker than a book, developed a corridor. The corridor lead from one room into the other and was about five feet in length (even though the rooms were directly beside eachother). The corridor's walls were black as soot and seemingly unbreakable. It was at this event that The Navidson Record shows Navidson's wife begin to become mentally unstable - she starts to suffer panic attacks.
- A month after the initial change, the corridor between the two rooms vanished. In its stead a doorway appeared in the downstairs living-room. Beyond the bland white door lay a dark corridor that proceeded in a straight line into darkness - on the other side of the living-room wall was the back yard, and the exterior of the wall showed no signs of a door or a corridor.
- Upon the discovery of the door, Navidson contacted a few of his friends and colleagues. He organised an expedition into the corridor. At 3:19Am on August 5th, 1990, Navidson and his team began what was to be called EXPLORATION A. It was discovered that when someone ventured into the labyrinth beyond the door, they would often hear "growls" and "snarls" from within the maze (as described by one of Navidson's friends).
- Between August 5th, 1990, and late September of the same year, Navidson led five separate expeditions into the Labyrinth: EXPLORATION A and EXPLORATION #1-4. Throughout these expeditions an unconfirmed number of Navidson's teammates died - some to suicide or murder, and others went missing in the labyrinth. Many of those who survived developed mental illness and Navidson's family was torn apart.
- June 1st, 2015. A group of graduated students in Sweden move into a shared apartment in Gävle. The apartment is bland and lacking many items of furniture, as is the way with student housing. Two months after they occupy the residence, strange occurrences begin to transpire. So begins the plot.
Notes
- If you're still lost send me a PM or drop a question. This plot might be confusing at first but hopefully it will become clearer.
- I will start the events of the RP, so don't worry about having to initiate.
- Post when you want. We won't rely on an order, just if you want you can drop a post. Please try and be regular.
- If you will be AFK for more than 48 hours let me know and we will find a way to have your character take a break from the plot.
- If you want out let me know and we will find a way to get your character out of the plot permanently.
- Posts can be any length. Like I said in the Interest Check, please don't be lazy! Post what you think is required at the time.
- Don't feel pressured to write more than you think is needed.
- Don't think it's okay to write less than is appropriate for the situation. Please don't post one-liners when there's ample possibilities to post more.
- Some lore will be posted here to get us started.
- I will act as sort of a "game master", as in I will control the house and the events in the game outside of characters' control.
- The color I use to shade "House" is the code: 6ecff6
- You don't have to do this. Just if you'd like to!
Creating Characters
- All characters are either Swedish or studied in Sweden, and now live there.
- Posts will be written in English, but we must assume that the language characters speak in is Swedish.
- Characters are graduates of university. Some may not have even found a job. Pick a degree for your character and find a way for it to be used in the plot if you want!
- Characters are real people. They can have skills (camping expert, graduate in film studies, mathematician, etc...) but not powers. The fantasy is purely in the house. Characters are normal people.
Character sheet as follows:
Rules and Limits
- Swearing is allowed
- Mild gore is allowed (mild description of sustained injuries). Please nothing graphic that may cause alarm.
- Sexism/racism/discrimination is allowed in character. Again, let's not let it get tasteless. Any form of flaming/hate/discrimination in OOC will result in removal from the thread. We're all RPers here, let's be a community.
- Character death can only be allowed by the player of the victim - if you wish for your character to kill/severely wound another, you must ask OOC permission.
- "Game Master" is Buglet. This may end up being on a rotor when others have a feel for the RP.
- Realism is required.
- Multiple characters per player currently not allowed (not at the moment as I think we may already have more than enough).
- Players may only control their character unless permission has been given from the other player.
- Here's an idea - if you go AFK, why not let someone else control your character while you're away!
- If you don't post for 48 hours without alerting myself or someone else in the RP, we will consider you gone and ICly remove your character from the RP.
- If you disagree with any of these or would like to request a rule please send me a PM and we'll sort it out. This is all I can think of at the moment.
