Thus ended the standard start-of-year speech. The details varied from school to school, but the point of such assemblies was the same. Inspirational pep talk, important information, then split up to start the day. A song and dance repeated across the world, be it in English, Japanese, or any other language. Splitting up into magicians and espers was different, Rebekah had to admit. There weren't many schools where the deciding factor for peer groups was "are you a magician" or "are you an esper", and even fewer where either one could be true. Only one, that she knew of. Her answer was easy. As soon as the headmaster left the stage, she proceeded calmly (and seemingly against the tide) towards the lefthand exit.
The line was... Surprisingly short. As in it consisted of, counting herself, two people so far. Rebekah was slightly disappointed. She had hoped to see more magicians at Hybrid Academy, to see how their magic functioned and what their take on it was. Even though there were undoubtedly more than two magicians in the school, it seemed they were vastly outnumbered by the espers. Their powers were fascinating too but she didn't have the capacity to replicate them. She permitted herself a quiet sigh as she took her spot in line, glancing briefly at the other magician, before turning her attention to her phone. Conversation might have been in the cards, but he was already focused on something else.
A few taps on her phone brought up the live video from her living room, where her canine companion dutifully watched the door. It would have been nicer if she could take him with her, but she wasn't worried about leaving him home. Checking up on him once or twice would make sure he didn't get into trouble. Unfortunately, checking up on him only required a few seconds. Without any better idea of what to do, and no flat surface upon which to set up her laptop, she stowed her phone and took playing cards out of the pocket of her uniform's coat.
A few deft moves, and the deck was shuffled. She looked at the top card, returned it to the deck, and shuffled. Repeat ad infinitum.
