I have had an idea!
Aight, so "American Gods"-esque Cthulhu mythos rp. Keep in mind I haven't actually read the book, I just read the wiki article due to an unrelated thing that came up.
A few years ago: The Elder Gods, being dumbasses, decide to wage war on the Outer Gods. A couple of Great Old Ones join in, and all this cosmic activity leads to some crazy shit on earth. Also the Elder Gods get their shit pushed in and while not technically capable of death, they get fucked pretty hard and flee to hide out in the Andromeda galaxy for a few millennia.
present day: A Daesh splinter cell bent on the world's destruction escapes the Middle East for South America, where they begin efforts to seek out the oceanic pole of inaccessibility, hoping to wake Cthulhu and guarantee the apocalypse. A Joint Task Force of the world's very best special forces operatives is assembled to combat this threat, including operatives from DEVGRU, 1st SFOD-D, JTF-2, the KCT, GROM, the SAS, Mossad, GIGN, and GSG 9. The task force, operating in teams of 4, successfully dismantled the splinter group, but discovered evidence of supernatural forces at work, and occult consultants were called in. They declared that machinations beyond mortal comprehension were being put into motion, but not until after two of the consultants went insane and committed suicide. The task force was disbanded, but kept at high readiness. The governments of the world refused to release what was discovered at the site of the assualt, and it remains a conspiracy
Concurrently: New aspects of the Great Old Ones and the Outer Gods begin to manifest across the world. In "Location X" Uvhash assumes the surprisingly innocuous form of a humanoid vampire. Appearing almost identical to normal humans, aside from his very notable fangs, and inability to communicate orally. Uvhash quickly starts a cult of his own with shockingly intelligent Star Vampires as his Lieutenants and a following of human thralls converted to vampires that are much more adept at hiding in plain sight than their superiors. This all takes place over a weekend, and by monday a few dozen fresh vampires roam the streets. A few of them quickly forget their places, and seek to take advantage of their new powers. Unbothered by the triviality of humanity, Uvhash is only halted by the scheming of Great Old Ones claiming dominion over this part of the galaxy.
This leaves one freshly minted vampire, a first-generation bloodsucker created by Uvhash himself, to their own devices. Character A is unsure what to make of a war of gods on earth, but thinks to capitalize on it if possible, and create their own little empire out of the soon-to-be-ashes of earth. Character B is a firm believer in a lack of destiny and the importance of humanity in the universe, until they encounter character A and get their whole world flipped upside down. Character B does manage to convince character A that something has to be done, however, and they seek to shut down the cults that support Uvhash's rivals.
And then maybe character B notices that character A was building their own cult the whole time and freaks out? I dunno. Star vampires can show up on both sides along the way, I figger, and maybe they "save" the world...
Vampires are pretty standard, give or take. The smell of garlic induces nausea, tasting it induces vomiting, but no real harm done. Direct sunlight is completely blinding, and extended exposure causes nausea. really good sunglasses and covering up can reduce the symptoms, but really only delays them. Extensive tissue damage sufficient to render the vampire unable to do anything essentially kills them, regeneration at this point is incredibly slow and short of pushing all the pieces together for them, they won't be getting up for years, longer if people mess with their bits. Stabbing them through the heart, cutting off their head, and setting all of them on fire guarantees death. Drowning only works in naturally running water. religious symbols have no effect on vampires, and they do not require an invitation to enter a home. First generation vampires are capable of minor psychic and supernatural phenomena, do not show up in mirrors or on film, only cast a shadow in direct sunlight, and appear exceptionally pale when exposed to direct sunlight. When in dim lighting, vampires appear extra attractive, strobe lighting has the exact opposite effect, and bright non-sunlight has no effect. All vampires have enhanced speed, strength, and senses, with older vampires having more of an enhancement. First generation vampires can transform into wolves, small swarms of bats or rats, and clouds of fog, or smoke. They have minor psychic abilities, being capable of hypnotizing those who are not sober, or sober people currently dreaming. New vampires are created by biting a human, but not drinking enough of their blood to kill them. The resulting incurable infection results in vampirism after three painful days and a twenty-four hour coma.
Non-first-generation vampires lack the powers of their elders, but are remain difficult to kill and it is possible for them to attain the powers of their elders should they live long enough and eat enough people. Vampires can regenerate faster by expending the souls of those they have eaten. This is not an optional process and vampires who have gained powers by eating people can lose them this way.
I think I covered everything. What do you think?
