Basic Information
Name:Penelope Thomas. Penny, Pidgeon, Harpy
Age:16
Gender:Female
Appearance: Even at an early age Penelope has always been aware of her abnormal appearance. Born without five fingers or toes, she's makes up for it with talons and wings. With the head and torso of a human, the rest of Penelope's body holds a heavy resemblance to a bird. Cupping her face and stretching down to her knees, her body is decorated in a thick layer of soft, brown and black spotted feathers. Covering her shoulders, the feathers along her arms thicken into a complex coat that extends into a large pair of wings instead of hands. Beneath her knees, the bones in her legs contain a third segment that allow her to balance and walk along her toes -- or rather, talons. Made up of three toes in the front and one in the back, her talons are large, muscular and sharp. With a habit of making herself look smaller than she actually is, Penelope often stands in hunched position. Head low, legs craned back and wings pulled before her chest. At full height she can stand at an impressive 6ft 4inches, but because of her posture Penelope stands anywhere from 4ft 10inches to 5ft 6inches.
With a wingspan of over 16 feet, the sheer size of Penelope's wings are often a problem. Because of this she holds them before her chest causing her feathers to drag on the ground and become prone to being stepped on and picking up dirt. Despite a majority of her body being covered in feathers, Penelope still wears clothes. A troublesome task that she is unable to do herself, her wings are too big to fit into a regular shirt while her legs are too abnormal to fit into pants properly, so a majority of her clothes consists of halters tops, ponchos, skirts, and other easy to slip on clothing. Unable to tend to her hair by herself, Penelope's hair is long and lays down her back and chest in a thick tangled mess of black curls. With straight bangs that sit above her eyebrows and large brown eyes, Penelope's face is thin and heart shaped. Blessed with high cheekbones and thin lips, light freckles cover pale cheeks and slender pointed nose, leaving her dimpled chin and angular jaw a soft milky white.
Skills/Talents:- Eye Spy: There is nothing that escapes Penelope's eyes. Able to spot objects near and far, it's not easy to hide things from her. Because of this, she is heavily organized with her things. A creature of habit, she knows exactly where things are and if lost or hidden, can quickly find them without a problem.
- Song Bird: With little that she can do, Penelope has come to love music and singing. While often quiet, her voice is soft and melodic, allowing her to hit high notes and sing on tune with ease. It's certainly not something she does in front of others, and catching her in the act is a sure way to embarrass her.
- Green Thumb: If there's one thing she likes to do, it's gardening. Besides her personal items, Penelope cares deeply about her plants, and grows them easily. From flowers to vegetables, she can grow just about anything, and while she doesn't have hands, she certainly has a green thumb.
Brief Backstory:For as long as she can remember, Penelope has always been apart of the Foster Care system. Born in Black Fall and taken from her parents at an early age, Penelope has lived in multiple group homes and stayed with countless families throughout her life. None of them being permanent due to her appearance and disabilities, it became difficult to find Penelope a permanent home as she grew older and became more detached from others. Quiet and reclusive, her fearful nature and appearance made her the target of bullying, and this issue only grew worse as she became older. Reaching its peak during her stay at one of the many Group Homes she lived in, Penelope finally stood up for herself in a lash of anger that ended up seriously injuring another child. Removed from the Group Home and placed in psychiatric care for a few week, Penelope was eventually placed back in another Group Home once she deemed stable and safe to be around.
This accident made finding a permanent home difficult for her, and with the threat of homelessness growing closer by the years, there was little Penelope's Social Worker could do. By the time she had turned sixteen, Penelope had been moved to the west coast, transitioning through Group Homes and families that cared for her months at a time while her Social Worker attempted to apply her to different Metahuman Academies, and programs. Because of her history, Penelope was turned down left and right until her Social Worker was referred to the Camp ThinkerRock program. So in an attempt to bring her into a new environment with people like herself, and possibly even learn more about herself mentally and physically, Penelope was applied and accepted into Camp ThinkerRock for the summer.
Power Information
Super-System - Bestial
Power:Avian PhysiologyAs much as she'd like it to not be obvious, there's no hiding being a metahuman when you have feathers and wings. Heavily resembling an owl, both in appearance and characteristics, Penelope's body was made for hunting, and stealth. Flat in shape instead of being spherical, Penelope's eyes are larger than most due to the lens of her eyes being pushed forward. Because of their size and design, her eyes can gather and reflect more light than the average human allowing her to see in the dark. Sitting on the front of her head, Penelope's eyes are capable of binocular vision as well. Giving her a wider field of vision and precise depth perception, she can easily see through camouflage, catch small movements and pin-point faint objects within her field of vision even at night. Starting beneath her hair line, and cupping her face and chin, the feathers on the sides of her head cover her ears. Unlike typical ears that stick out, Penelope instead has small ear holes hidden beneath her feathers. Because of their placement, one hole sitting higher than the other, sounds reach Penelope's ears at slightly different times allowing her to tell exactly where said noise came from.
By far the most powerful feature on Penelope's body are her legs and feet. Legs toned and muscular from constant walking, her feet are capable of a powerful grip while their scaled skin allows her to stand and balance on rough and uneven surfaces. With feet ranging at twenty six inches her talons long and sharp, able to pierce fabric and skin with ease, which is often a problem she faces when being dressed in the morning. Despite not using them as often as she should, her wings have many perks as well. The feathers on Penelope's arms and wings range anywhere from six inches to two feet at full length, and while long and thick her feathers are lightweight and soft along the edges allowing her to move about, and fly noiselessly. Her thick coat of feathers also keeps her warm in cold conditions. Snow, and low temperatures hardly effect her no matter what kind of clothes she may be wearing.
Limits:Even with their capabilities, Penelope has never found the space or confidence to actually use her wings and learn how to fly. Despite this she is able to make high jumps, reach tall perches, and glide down from extreme heights with the help of her wings. Her heightened sight and hearing is often an issue, as well. Direct sunlight in the day is no problem, however direct eye contact with bright lights and flashes can easily blind Penelope and leave her with intense headaches. Loud, and sharp have the same effect; often leaving her skittish, and delirious with painful headaches.
Weaknesses/Drawbacks:With a thick coat of feathers, Penelope's body temperature often runs high. A warm blooded creature, excessive heat and high temperatures have a knack for exhausting her or making her lethargic. Water is also an issue. Unlike birds that are able to dive and submerge themselves in water, Penelope's wings are not water resistant. While rain is no real issue, her wings and feathers will grow heavy and sop up with water causing her body to grow heavy and sink in deep water.
