Ichigos ability is to spam one move over and over XD and black flames might work, but I think his type would then become whatever it is now / fire.

So a blade spawned from black flames that can be summoned from the shadows and can burn what it cuts with a fire that can....do something..... for a brief period of time. The flames can also congregate at one point and fire, similar to Ulquiorra's finger-cero. We'll get into the radiance part once Bankai is achieved.

Ya know you don't have to have a fancy shmancy zanpaktou ability. You could just have a melee type which is what ichigo's is. Melee type zanpaktou don't have any unique abilities and instead focus on increasing the user's battle capabilities such as Ikkaku's Hozukimaru, Renji's Zabimaru, Shuhei's Kazeshini, and Zaraki's new Nozarashi.

which speaking of I don't think increases such as an 10% strength or speed increase should have time limits and cooldowns. Just because they have a little more strength, speed, endurance, etc doesn't give them an overwhelming advantage. As long as it's a reasonable increase to a max 2 areas then it doesn't need limitations like that.

For some reason whenever you post I hear Hiyori's voice in my head. I think the black flame-blade as an effect similar to when Ichigo kept the Getsuga wrapped around his blade is special enough.

Are you talking about during the fight with Ulquiorra when Ichigo charges a Getsuga but doesn't fire it and instead uses it to increase the striking power of his sword? Anyway what are you trying to create with your zanpaktou?

Yeah, I'm referring to that. I'm trying to create a melee/shadow type. The flames wouldn't really be flames but Shadows in the shape of flames.

Kaien's edited Shikai skills(the CS is still on 689, with a hider labeled Kaien.):

Shikai appearance: Ignore the stand and focus on the sword.
Bankai appearance: Bankai not achieved.

Shikai skills:
(Start off with no Shikai or 4 to 5 Shikai skills)
1. The blade is wrapped in shadows that take the shape of flames, allowing the blade to be instantaneously summoned from his own shadow. This is purely a summoning ability and as such the flames are permanent until it is sealed. The flames were put there because I wanted them and as such they have no bearing on his attack power.
2. Increased Strength (5 post use, Ten post cool down)
3. Through ability #1, Kaien can charge his Reiatsu into the flame-shadows and increase the striking power of his Zanpakutō . (2 post use, 3 post cool down)
4. Increased Speed(2 post use, 3 post cooldown.)
