I've been keeping my ear to the ground, as much as I tried to resist, and this is going to be the hardest Souls game yet.

The same map will be uploaded online within hours of the game's release.

And if Dark Souls is anything to go by, the map probably won't provide much advantage since Dark Souls wasn't exactly labyrinthine. It was largely linear, perhaps with a few paths diverging here and there, but I don't recall once feeling lost in Dark Souls. Not physically lost anyway, emotionally maybe.

Iunno, at the end of the beta they pretty much quadrupled the difficulty to test the ng+ difficulties and that was bearable, albeit pretty difficult

And the default beta wasn't really that much harder than the original aside from exploits being patched out like roll infinity frames and longer backstabs.

But I've heard things from people who were invited to play the full game in San Francisco for an hour.

In an hour of playtime, they did not get enough souls to level even once. They were given an Estus flask with only one charge and no way to recharge it, at least up front. There was no Master Key. None of them got to a boss, despite being experienced Demon's Souls and Dark Souls players.

To be fair, the tutorial area is allegedly muuuuuuuuuuuch longer than the one in DS1, so I'm not surprised about little progress in an hour

Anyway, the change I'm most hyped for is that characters aren't going to look like 12 year olds with downs by default anymore

The first boss is the Mirror Knight, which summons other players to kill you. There really isn't a tutorial area, just a first area.

I can have beards and be old now.
