Well if you are strictly against editing than maybe they were harder to reach than everyone else so a flying animal had to be used. This would have made the trip slower so the animal could rest? Or it could be that the messenger had to go through dangerous odds to get the letter there.

@Akayaofthemoon Hm, that could work. I was thinking either that or they meet with the party after things are already going. Like, they witness the group being attacked and jump in to help.
